I'm dying to know how in the world this book gets such good reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. I only read this series because it's like a train wreck that I can't avert my eyes from. I keep waiting for the author to redeem herself, or for there to be a clarifying moment for the main character. Ok, in all honesty if the suspense wasn't so great, I wouldn't have kept reading. I get super irritated with weak female leads. I know teenagers are hormonal and have very skewed senses of things, but I really don't like it when they care more about a guy (or two) more than their family. Maybe it's the mommy in me. In this book "Protected" By Cindy M. Hogan, Christy is faced with a trial of going into the "witness protection program" and she finds that she must "erase" her self and embrace "Michele", the person she must disguise as and pretend to be. As "Michele", Christy becomes a cheerleader and learns how to be popular. As the book goes on, Christy has to transform into a "motercycle-tattoo-lots of peircings-type-girl" and has to relocate. It picked up right where the first book left off. I have to say that Christy is one of my favorite YA female characters. Wow! Fabulous book. I loved it even more than the first. The reason I knew I loved it so much is I couldn't put it down, I went to bed way past my bedtime, and the house cleaning took a bit of a back seat to me reading this. This book started a little slow for me, but it was definitely crazy and face-paced. I kept imaging how awful it would be to be in Christy's situation and how well she handled things, especially with her only being 16. Protected was another great story in the Watched series. The book started off with Christy returning to somewhat of normalcy, after the DC trip choas. He returns to her normal school, but different on the inside. Although, she still thought of Alex and Rick regularly but knew that it was over...that was until Alex showed up and swept her right off her feet again...

Not as great as the first, but still interesting. Though Christy gets a little more mature, she still makes a lot of stupid choices. Just when I thought she was turning into a badass she would do something idiotic. Almost like she didn't see the severity of the situation. Hogan keeps her plot moving forward with suspence and a few twist. While the book does have enough intrigue to have kept me reading it into the late hours of the night, it was the main character's growth that fascinated me.

4 1/2 stars. Still annoyed by some of her stupidity - especially in not learning from past experience again and again. But, other than that, I thought this one was fascinating! So interesting to imagine what it must be like for people put in the Witness Protection program, and to think of all the implications of that. In the second book of the Watched series Christy is at home and is at her high school where she doesn't have any friends. Alex shows up and kisses her right in front of the Cheerleaders. Over the weekend I had some spare time and treated my self to a book. I chose Protected, by Cindy Hogan. She released this book last March on the same day as I released my first book, Promises. (We had our launch party together and she was so helpful, as I was a bumbling newbie). What I can't believe is that I had waited this long to get around to reading her book. I had enjoyed her first book, Watched, and I was rewarded equally, if not more, as I read Protected.

I read this book really quickly and stayed up WAY too late again to finish. I loved the suspense, but I wish that Christy had a little more self control. For example, when she made a big promise and then couldn't follow through. I have a feeling there is more to the story than what we are getting and I'm excited to see what happens in the next book.

First, my thanks to the Author for an E-ARC...??? (Is that a word? It is now.) to read. I was excited to see what was in store for Christy once more. It picked us up with the heroine just a few months after her departure from DC back in her hometown of Helena. Things still aren't very peachy there and go from bad to worse when Alex shows up. Soon, she finds herself thrown into Witness Protection and a whole slew of new moral dilemmas to conquer.

Christy’s reality upon returning home after DC is far from what she wish it would be, until Alex appears outside her school. Trouble always seems to follow Alex as has once again she has been found by the terrorists who killed the Senator’s aid. Back into protective custody – Christy learns to tune her ‘spidey senses’ and learn to defend herself against anything she may come up against.
A great follow up to Watched. I cannot wait for the third installment!

Lots of action in this book, much like my favorite genre of movies: suspense. At first I was only going to give a 3 star rating because I had such high expectations after reading the first book. Also, it has quite the chic-flick feel to it, which is a slight negative in my opinion, although perfect for a quick read. However, I really appreciate the way Hogan has her main character, Christy, stick to her morals.
Warning - Sand Man won’t visit.
Protected – the perfect follow-up to Watched! I stayed up WAY past my bedtime to read it. I kept thinking, “I’ll get tired soon” … “I’ll shut off my Kindle in a minute”… “Geez, what time is it anyway.” I couldn’t stop reading. My heart was racing so much I couldn’t get sleepy. I liked this book, mainly because there is always something new with Christy. The details are highly descriptive. I like the representation of her position and how Christy act upon what she is told, and when she doesn't, it shows how she deals with her consequences.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a page turning, thrilling, on the edge of your seat book.

At this point I am anxiously awaiting the next installment in Watched series! As the second book unfolds the plot thickens. I love the twists in this book. I read it in a hurry. It hopped and skipped some time and that was okay too. It was great and addictive reading. I was immersed and satisfied how it all went down. I cannot wait for it's sequel!
