4 stars: "Like A Wolf With A Bone" by Shelly Laurenston
Loved Eggie Ray Smith's story. It was sweet while also really funny. A departure from the other books in the series, this story is set back in the 1970s when Eggie was first getting together with Darla Mae. I also enjoyed the glimpses of Sissy Mae's parents and the other aunts and uncles--who we know from the earlier books in the series. Like a Wolf with a Bone by Shelly Laurenston- 4 flames
This was Eggie and Darla Mae’s story and I loved it. I’m not sure what I expected from Eggie, but I really enjoyed it. This story was a bit sweeter than Laurenston’s usual Pride books (no complaints here!) and her trademark sense of humor was present throughout.
Eggie accidentally kidnaps Darla Mae after saving her from humans trying to kill her. She’s a bit of a free spirit, or well, a hippie (he More...

And to get another thing out of my system...
EEEEEEEGGGGGGGGGIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
Ok now I feel better.... huge breath...
This is yet another entry in the pairing of short stories/novellas from Shelly Laurenston and Cynthia Eden. I have to be honest I get these for the Laurenston stories but I am happy to say that due to these I did discover Cynthia Eden and have enjoyed other works by her outside of these.

'Like a Wolf With a Bone' by Shelly Laurenston
4 stars
Laurenston often uses the novella format to give us back stories of characters in her series from previous generations. In this one we get the story of hillbillie she-wolf killing machine Dee-Ann's parents - Eggie and Darla.
More wolf than man, we know from 'Big Bad Beast' that Eggie Ray Smith's favorite saying is "time to start the killin'" - and he often invokes it when forced to spend time with his crazy kin. So how then did a lethal militar More...

How I loved this half-ology! Let me count the ways: Egbert Ray Smith is one of my favorite Wolf shifters, who just so happens to be very good at killin' . Darla Mae Lewis is a pacifist. That was pure genius. I love how Shelly Laurenston brings in previous characters like Sara's parents and Blaynie's father, Ezra Thorpe. And her novels are always hilarious. This one did not disappoint.

This has 2 stories in it. One from Shelly Laurenston and one from Cynthia Eden. The story from Shelly, Like a Wolf with a Bone, is a really good one. You finally get a look into Eggie, Dee-Ann Smith's Father, and see why Dee-Ann is the way she is. And I have got to say, I LOVE IT!!! I could read Shelly's writing all-day-long!! This particular story has good humor, fighting, alpha tendencies and more. Not a lot of explicit detailed sex scenes, PHEW!, but you still get your "romance" in the story. More...

If you like to read about wolf shifters then this is a book for your. Two separate stories involving wolf shifters and their potential mates. The first story “Like A Wolf With A Bone” has everything you want in a short story, a hot male wolf protecting the unsuspecting female, action and adventure for the main characters. Darla isn’t your average damsel in distress though. She is strong, fearless and very protective when it comes to those she cares about. The two families in this story are hilar More...

A pair of short stories about wolf shifters.
Series: "Like a Wolf with a Bone" (Pride, 0.5)
The Stories
Shelly Laurenston's "Like a Wolf with a Bone" even reads as though Laurenston had written this first. It was too brash even though it did make me laugh. It was nice to get the background on Eggie Smith and how he pursued his bride, Darla Mae Lewis (Dee Anne's parents). It also explains the birth of the pie shop. It's been awhile since I read the books in the Pride series and I find myself wantin More...

In Like A Wolf With A Bone readers learn how Dee Ann’s parents, Egbert ‘Eggie’ Ray Smith and Darla Mae Lewis meet and mate. Eggie Ray Smith is the most revered of the Smith male; from other pride books it’s well known that Eggie is the one you call when you need someone to “disappear”. This is my first book in the Pride world. It certainly will not be the last. Like a Wolf with a Bone introduces readers to who I am going to assume are the parents of the heroes and heroines of the future books in the series. Making a rough guess I think this story actually takes place in the late 70’s. I’m in love with this world. I can relate to Tennessee hillbillies. I live amongst them. I love this q More...

This book contains two wolf-shifter stories by Shelly Laurenston and Cynthia Eden. I bought it because I enjoy Shelly Laurenston’s Pride series (also her dragon series as G.A. Aiken).
In Like a Wolf With a Bone by Shelly Laurenston we learn the story of how Eggie and Darla Smith (Dee-Ann’s parents from Big Bad Beast (Pride, #6) ) got together. Egbert “Eggie” Ray Smith has a reputation even among his own kin of being slightly psychotic. Darla Lewis is the “quiet” Lewis sister. But there is someon More...

An anthology duo from authors Shelly Laurenston and Cynthia Eden makes for a very entertaining combo read. Two differing sides of paranormal romance, one more campy humor, and one more rip-roaring action, and both sides are definitely furry. Hey--you scratch my back and I'll scratch your back! "Like a Wolf with a Bone", from Shelly Laurenston, is set in the seventies--the perfect era for this funny, "far out", clan-with-a-plan paranormal romance romp. Darla Mae Lewis is the "quiet one" in a fami More...

My only issue with reviewing anthologies really is that the rating can be so mixed.
"Like A Wolf With A Bone" by Shelly Laurenston, wasn't my favorite. Shelly is one of my "guilty pleasure" authors...however this story was written like any other Laurenston book however almost all of the characters with the exception of the Hero and Heroine were really very annoying. I found myself skipping pages which is blasphemy for a avid reader like me. I would have given this story only 2 stars.

As much as I wanted to give this five stars because I'm a huge fan of Shelly Laurenston's work, I just couldn't. Like a Wolf With a Bone contained a lot of the usual elements in telling the story of Dee-Ann Smith's parents; Eggie Ray Smith and Darla Mae Lewis. It had numerous types of shifters but mainly wolf, lion and bear along with the rivalries between them leading to some bitch slapping. It had typical family arguments leading to bitch slapping and some hot scenes of loving which...didn't l More...

I loved this. 2 books in 1. The fact that 2 authors can get together 2 very interesting stories relating to the same theme. In this case it was 2 wonderful, exciting, adeventure romance tales with wolf shifters.

2 of my favorite authors...great reads!
Howl for It is Miss Darla and Eggie's story. Up til now we've known Miss Darla as a sweetheart who is excepting of everyone and kind of a mother hen. Eggie is a homicidal maniac who only cares for miss Darla and Dee Ann. I really loved seeing the softer side of Eggie as he trys to fight falling in love with Darla, and seeing the adventuring side of Darla. The novel has everything I've come to expect from SL, fighting, baking, and lovin. Although I felt like More...

Like A Wolf With A Bone by Shelly Laurenston
Wolf shifter Eggie Smith is use to others fearing him. He's better off being left alone anyhow. But while on leave from the Marines, Eggie falls hard and fast for the piece loving she-wolf Darla Lewis after saving her. Darla has no idea why a group of humans took shots at her but she's happy to get a break from her rowdy family. She can see Eggie has a good soul and she'll defend him against his own pack or anyone else who tries to take her wolf away. More...

HOWL FOR IT by Shelly Laurenston and Cynthia Eden is an intriguing and interesting paranormal romance. Two stories with wolf shifters, passion, danger, pack feuds, secrets, with strong, fearless heroines and tough, sexy heroes. Both authors have written stories with intriguing and interesting plots and engaging characters that will dazzle and delight readers. While, this is my first time reading Ms. Laurenston,it will not be my last. I love Ms. Eden's stories rather they are her paranormal or romantic More...

You can't wrong with Laurenston or Eden. Both are great storytellers and when you get them both together you get a really funny story and an action packed tale.

I love Shelly's books, I pre ordered it without knowing who it was about as I just had to have it no matter the price lol, I should have looked in to it, I Didn't realise there was another book by another author in it so I felt kinda cheated for the price, I did love hearing about reggie and darla mae and it was a great story but far to short. As I suspected, this story was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! “Howl For It” is really making me want to reconsider my novella policy. As I stated before, I typically don’t read books with more than one story in them, because I usually find them lacking in details, and quality. I don’t like to feel rushed when I’m enjoying a good story, but with this one, rather than feeling as though you are being shoved at warp speed through the set-up, you are dropped dead center into the action, with just enough back story More...

Sensual reads, my first introduction to Ms Laurenston, will definitely have to look for others by her.

Great combination of colloquialisms and stereotypes about a portion of the population that traditionally has a large family that is interrelated and a tendency toward two name sobriquets...Egbert Ray (I ask you, a killer nicknamed 'Eggie'?), Darla Mae...drag races against the lioness shifters...pie bake offs...what fun!

3.5 stars - I am going through a reviewing slump (and am itching to get to the next book:) so just a few thoughts and they aren't proof read very well either - sorry.
I liked Laurenston's story the best of the two here, though for a stone cold killer like Eggie Smith (who we've seen in the background in other books) his mating/romance was almost sweet. I actually really liked this story all the way up to the epilog when the story jumps to the future and Eggie's daughter is bringing home the enemy More...

"Like a Wolf With a Bone" - reminds me why I like Shelly Laurenston so much! The characters in these stories are so funny, and in the midst of all their animal characteristics they show sweet, "human" qualities. In this story we go back in time (a little) to learn how Dee-Ann Smith's parents, Darla Mae and Eggie Ray met and fell in love. Too cute.

Loved this short story! I think this is now one of my favorites by Laurenston. Set in the 1970's and centered around Dee-Ann's (Big Bad Beast) parents, Eggie and Darla, this was a really fun romp. It was great to see a different perspective of one of the most feared characters in the series. Eggie was really endearing in his awkwardness around Darla and I only wish that the story was longer so we could've spent more time with this couple. More...

I loved getting to see the parents of the Smith clan as troublesome youths in the 70s. Eggie Ray and Darla Mae's story was fun and a true case of opposites attract. Darla Mae just keeps surprising and Eggie just keeps on being his scary self. Like a Wolf with a Bone was a great addition to Laurenston's series.
