If I could give this ZERO stars, I would. Book is on hold until I deign to pick it back up again.
It is so fucking whiny it's not even funny. I get it, she has Mommy issues, but so far you can't go two pages without her whinging about how her mom vanished. You know what? The woman who raised me died when I was a preteen.. you don't see me whining about it every other breath.
A few other things bugged me:

Jade wants nothing to do with her gift or with being a witch. To her all its done was give her heartache. But when her friend ends up very ill and Kane disappears she has no choice but to embrace it.
I enjoyed the first book so much I went and bought books two and three even before finishing the first. Sometimes it's a roll of the dice when it comes to the follow-up to a great book. I am happy to say this one didn't disappoint. Though a couple characters angered me just a little bit, Jade being...more

Jade and Kane are an established couple now, but they face some seriously rough waters ahead. This book expands on the idea of Jade and her powers, and particularly how she should have been trained as a witch from an early age - an idea that she abhorred since she lost her mother to magic when she went out one night with her coven and never came home. She had disappeared, leaving Jade with a hole in her life and in her heart that she's never truly recovered from.

Witches of Bourbon Street is the second book in the Jade Calhoun series by Deanna Chase.
In book #1 it was revealed that Jade is in fact a witch but had avoided magic, especially coven magic since her mother disappeared when things went terribly wrong during a ritual.
Things get strange once again at Wicked, Kane's strip club when they prepare for Halloween celebrations and three paintings and voodoo dolls end up at the club. Being an empath, Jade can sense something is wrong with the paintings, s...more

Jade is convinced she’s only an empathy-emphatically not a witch, white or otherwise. She needs to help her elderly friend Bea, whose essence was drained while effectively battling an evil haunt. But Jade thinks she just can’t do it. Experience through many attempts at helping Bea heal by transferring energy from nephew Ian to his aunt seems to continue to prove her failure. Although Jade truly is a white witch, life experiences have caused her denial and taught her to reject anything that smack...more
The 2nd book in the Jade Calhoun Series finds Jade once again caught up in a paranormal situation. In this book, you find out a little bit more about her past. All of her relationships continue to develop and this is what makes the book so interesting. Of course, part of me was disappointed because I didn't see any other books in the series and I have really come to like Deanna Chase's characters and her storytelling. The first thing that I did when I finished reading the book this morning was l...more
Jade Calhoun is an empath and to her surprise a powerful white witch. She's in a battle of her life trying to save the good angel, Kane, her mother and Dan from the black witch Meri. As well as rescue Bea from being locked down with the black witch. This story starts slowly and continues to build until the end. You keep turning the pages until you learn the answers and see who wins the battle. This is a light hearted paranormal series that brings people closer together as the evil threatens to d...more
I loved both books in this series. The writing was witty and fast-paced. The only complaint I would have is that it's too fast-paced sometimes. Way too much "magic" going on in one scene or another like she was trying to pack in everything magic related she could think of. I suggest she just write a ton more books that way she can spread the magic and we get more great stories! These really were super entertaining. Emotional, funny, exciting, magical and very sexy at times. I'm definitely lookin...more
Witches of Bourbon Street is a fast-paced read, heavy on plot, but slacking in depth. There is a lot going on in the second installment of the Jade Calhoun series. The pages are packed full of rip-roaring paranormal catastrophe, which will whip you through New Orleans at record speed. Considering the location of the story, I would have preferred if more attention were given to setting and characterization. There are some complex struggles taking place and at times, it felt too glazed over. I thi...more
The second Jade Calhoun book does not disappoint!! I've been eagerly awaiting this sequel, and my wish was granted. It was every bit as good as the first. Our heroine, Jade, grows quite a bit in this story and it was a pleasure to read about her fierce loyalty to her friends and family. She's willing to do whatever it takes to help the people she cares about - even embracing the witchcraft she's shunned for so many years. I'm looking forward to the next release in this series!
Jade is stubborn, opinionated and sometime insecure. There were times when I wanted to smack some sense into her not that would do any good. She is lucky that she has such great friends who support her constantly and without questioning. I found the story fast paced, intriguing and it kept me guessing. I truly enjoyed the plot, the magic and find the characters are growing on me. Their relationships are very heartfelt, so realistic. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Once again, a very enjoyable read. There were only a few pieces of information that were either difficult to process or remained unexplained. The story does remain open, so for Dan's sake I hope there is another. I would definitely recommend reading the books in order so that character relationships are more underatandable. Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed being swept up in the story. If you enjoy the paranormal, give this book a chance.
Not truly a waste of time on the first book (but close), but the second, Witches of Bourbon Street, (and third) was not even interesting enough to finish. Total waste of my money. Just read the book description and a couple of reviews (not the 5-star ones done by family and friends) and you won't have to read the actual books. Nothing positive to say- which is too bad
I really like these books. They are a bit formulaic but the characters are so great, I don't mind. For the first time, I'm going to go ahead and get the last in this series and read it right away. Only criticism is that I think the three should be one book. Still new to Kindle, I guess that won't happen. Thanks Deanna Chase for lifting me out of my winter doldrums!
It is one thing to have an "ending" to a book, another thing to just cut off completely and mention somewhere along the lines in author's notes that another will be out in late fall. The book was ok...but I'm not sure how much one possibly needs reminded throughout the book in what happened in the first book. Would have been ok to mention it as a reminder when something was brought up but not time and time again throughout the book...
This one wasn't as good as the first. It felt too random. It usually doesn't take me this long to read a book and I felt like it dragged. I'm glad things worked out in the end, though. Jade finally taps into her inner witch. She gets reunited with someone long lost and everything is all peachy keen, other than Dan. I guess that's what book 3 is for. Maybe I will find it, eventually.
Jade and Kane find themselves in more trouble with black magic and voodoo. Can Jade save Kane without anybody getting killed? Only with the help of the local witches...
I think Kane is pretty sexy and the love scenes are pretty "magic" in this book. I enjoyed reading it and look forward to starting the next in the series.

Very slow at the beginning. It had too much going on, but it comes all together at the end of the book. I still enjoyed reading it. It had a couple of twists here and there. Lot more people was involved in the story. More characters was introduced. Looking forward to the next book which will not be out until later this year.
Jade makes me want to live in New Orleans!!! I personally love the attraction going on with Jade and Kane its never boring or clique we need someone in our lives!
I was actually surprised that I liked this book better than first story. The pace seemed to move along at a good rate, and it seemed as though this story did a bit better job of explaining some of the situations, unlike the first book in which events happened that weren't normal, but there was never a reason given for why they happened. All in all a good read for me.
