I received this book to review for the ReadIt&Reap program in the ShutUp&Read group. Thanks to the mods and the author for providing this book for us to read.

First of all let me say I was really excited to start this book. The way things ended with Amaranth made me really want to dig farther into this story and find out what else is in store for Camille and Gavin. While Amaranth took me a little while to get into, The Gates pretty much took no time at all. We are right back where Amaran...more

Book 2 of the Resistance Trilogy...

Okay, so you may or may not know I was on the fence about the last book Amaranth (The Resistance Trilogy, #1).
In the first installment, there were issues (for me) of characters coming across as victims and not seeming to stand up and assert themselves. After reading the second book in the series, I'm ready to edit my original rating of Amaranth. No more fence, Book 1 gets a solid 4 stars now. "Why?" you may ask of my changing my rating of Amaranth after reading The Gates... Book 2 was just that...more

** This book was kindly shared by the author through 'Read It & Reap' Group for the purposes of review**

This second installment of the 'The Resistance Trilogy" was excellent! Another fast, action packed read.

Some of the characters that I was very interested in in Book 1 were definitely developed more in this book, and I was able to have a greater insight into the development of their individual stories, and how they came to join together in their quest.

It was very difficult not to see simi...more

My Review:

I have so much to say about The Gates, but I am going to keep it rather brief so that I don’t spoil anything for those of you that have been waiting to read it.

I waited rather impatiently for months to get a chance to find out what happens to Camille and Gavin in the second installment of the Resistance Trilogy. I felt like I was left on edge after the completion of Amaranth, wondering what would happen next. After reading The Gates, I feel exactly the same - I can’t wait for the next...more

Now folks I know that some of you may have read my mini-review back in February when I finished the book. But I also know that there will be those that didn't. So if you are one of the ones that did, please bear with me if I seem to be going over the same things as I did back then.

Firstly, my cover-art magpie side tells me to address the cover for THE GATES. So, let's get to it.
The cover for this is slightly darker than that of AMARANTH. This has a less ethereal quality to it than Amaranth did....more

Do I really have to wait until April!?

March-
So looks like I didn't have to wait until April! Wow I must say that was even better than the first. I do not want to give anything away considering it doesn't come out until April, but by golly that was good. There is a bunch of action and a BUNCH of love.

Gavin and Camille never seize to amaze me. Their relationship is true and honest. In The Gates, their love will get tested. And oh it made me mad but that's all I'll give away!

A more thorough review...more

This book begins where the first book ended, picking up in a big way. In my opinion, The Gates is better than the first book. Camille and Gavin’s love is tested and there are some steamier scenes. Wade developed every character; I really love that she did this because she created such great characters. The plot twists and turns were predictable at times, but truly surprised me at others. I had a hard time putting this book down and probably stayed up too late reading almost every night. Most im...more

Ok, I really enjoyed this book much more than the first. For some reason I felt a better connection with the characters and at times could really feel their emotions. We are also given some great scenes in which I really felt I was there. There were a few times that I laughed out loud and even had tears in my eyes at other times.

One thing that was certainly different in this book was the steam factor! There are some sex scenes (after marriage sex – which I appreciate), but they aren’t tacky or...more

Once again I was amazed. Rachael Wade has created another amazing read.I absoultely loved the first book in this series and couldn't wait to read this one. Camille amazed me again with her strength and determination. She is still an awesome character and with a fierce protectiveness for those she loves. The thing I loved with this book is we got more backstory on the other characters. I loved seeing Joel and Arianna's relationship through Arianna's eyes. Arianna became another character I fell i...more

Book 2 The Resistance Trilogy

I continue to be amazed by this author’s skill at world-building, and her ability to evoke character delineation and evolution. Additionally, the suspension of disbelief so important in the genres of paranormal, fantasy, or horror is accomplished so skillfully in this trilogy that the reader never even stops to puzzle whether alternate dimensions such as Amaranth exist, nor whether it is possible that vampires are “real,” products of a “curse” which can be mitigated...more

Over all I thought this was a good book with a creative, original plot line and back story. It was a nice quick read.

The relationship between Gavin and Camille is very well established and the reader is able to see with clarity, how they feel for one another. I might have enjoyed seeing a bit further into Gabe and Audrey's relationship as well.

The action scenes and the villain Samira deliver and the little twist with her in the end is quite nice and not expected.

Aside from a little more charac...more

I have become a fan of this author. I read Amaranth (Book 1) at the beginning of this year and was hooked. I just finished The Gate (Book 2) and I must say my commute the last few days have been pleasant because of it.

Cam is by far one of the best characters I have read. She is feisty yet soft, brave yet scared. From the start you feel as though you are going through her days with her. These books have it all, a buffet of emotions. Hate - Love, Trust - betrayal, Greed - Generosity and much, much...more

THE GATES picks up where book one, AMARANTH leaves off and goes on to completely blow book one away in style, story and character development! Gavin and Camille are back and looking good! Camille is no longer a wishy-washy victim type and has really stepped up to the plate as a gutsy character! Gavin is still hot, but has become a true hero. The love these two share really heats up and feels real!

With the help of hoodoo magic, Gavin and Camille are able to travel again to Amaranth and avoid bein...more

I received a copy of this book from the ReadIt&Reap program in the ShutUp&Read group here on Goodreads. This is an excellent program, in which authors provide free copies of their ebooks in exchange for honest reviews.

Overall, I enjoyed this second book from The Resistance Trilogy. Like Amaranth, this book is a short, fast paced adventure. On several occasions, I thought I knew where the story was going, but Rachael Wade went in a completely different direction. It kept me on my toes th...more

I received this book for review from the Shut Up & Read group on Goodreads.

As you may know, I absolutely LOVED Amaranth (The Resistance Trilogy, #1). Rachael Wade has a way of pulling you into a story and making you feel like you're along for the ride.

Same thing goes for The Gates. We hop back into the story where we left off and it's non-stop from there. Camille and Gavin's romance heats up and gets tested in ways you wouldn't even think of. We find out more about the characters that we were left wondering about in Amaranth....more

I got this book from the Read It & Reap project to review.

I am not sure what to make of this book.

On one hand, I really liked the fact that is is a continuation of the story started in Amaranth. I could finally find out what happens next, this dreadful bit of emotion that makes us watch a tv series for years and years just to find out what happened with a character that was on-screen only in the first episode for maybe five minutes.

On the other hand, I really do not like that the book makes...more

The Gates, Book 2 of The Resistance Trilogy by Rachael Wade

Five stars!!!
What a great follow up to Amaranth! Wade jumps right into the action and fills us in on enough to bring us back into her world without bogging down her fast paced storyline.

I’d forgotten how much I liked her character development and quick dialogue. The world of Amaranth is so real I feel like I can step right into it. The descriptions are fabulous without being too lengthy and her ability to evoke emotion is wonderful. Eve...more

I recieved this ebook for review but that has in now way effected my opinion.
This is book two of the Resistance Trilogy by Rachael Wade.

Camille and Gavin have their hands full leading the resistance in Amaranth against Samira. They face many different obstacles and challenges.
The love that Gavin and Camille share is their greatest strength above all else it drives them forward.
I just love this trilogy and can not wait to read book three! There were several twists in this book that took me by sur...more

We rejoin Cam and Gav at Arianna's at a party to recruit for the resistance against Samila in Amaranth. Plans are made and they return to Amaranth with a little protection provided by Vivienne. They appear in front of Samila and bargain with her to get through the gates.

Once in the village they are reunited again with Gabe and Audrey in exile as humans. Gavin and company meet with the towns people, under Samira's dictate, to join in with their coming resistance forces. The plan is to rise agains...more

The second book was just as great as the first book. I really like the way that this author keeps the plot from getting boring and generic. The characters were fully developed. It was east for me to read and enjoy. I liked the mixture of voodoo and vampires. It was nice to see a twist on the vampire world. One twist was the vampires being able turn back into humans. That was definitely not something that I would have thought of to use for a vampire novel. I am excited to read the last book in th...more

The Gates by Rachael Wade was a surprisingly good read. This is the second installment in her Resistance Trilogy. The first book, which I recommend reading first, is Amaranth.

The Gates begins with Gavin and Camille prepared to elope after leaving Arianna with the devastating news about Joel. It is Camille who is insisting but Gavin is reluctant because of the upcoming uprising they are planning. They soon decide that it is unwise to marry right now when they are unsure of the success of the elab...more

I received this book graciously thru the Read It and Reap group. Many thanks to the author. A delightful sequel to Amaranth. A more rounded story told with enriching detail just enough to give you a wonderful insight to the city of Amaranth and those around our main characters without the excessive over description that many fantasy stories sadly possess. The story is rich with many twists and turns to keep you from putting down your book. I enjoyed this adventure even more than the first and an...more

This is the second book in the series by Rachael Wade and is just as fantastic as it's predecessor, if not more so!
Rachael Wade is a relative newcomer to the literary world, but her creativity and prose has captured my imagination, and I was extremely excited when this book was released!
The story continues with Gavin, Camille and their friends planning the downfall of Samira, the mother of all vampires, and freedom for all the people trapped behind the gates in Amaranth.

“Gavin! What’ll I wear home?”
“Cloak.” His voice roughened and he ripped harder, tossing the material to the ground. I felt his smile when he kissed my neck, and shivers ran down my back at the sound of his low growl.
“I made that! I don’t have many of those, you know.”
“Cam,” he snaked one hand around my stomach and made his way north, slipping one hand into my corset top to grope my chest. “You won’t be thinking about it when I’m inside you.” His hips shifted off my back and he separated my legs with his knee, his breathing ragged against my shoulder. “Now forget the damn dress.”

“Joel’s face swam across my vision and I blinked, goose bumps running up my arms. I shook his memory away, determined to stay focused, although my heart caved at the thought of his last words to us, right here in this very spot: Take care of each other. I’d be damned if I was going to let him down now.” 9 people liked it
