I hate you people for having an arc of this book already !!! no seriously. I'm insanely jealous

EDIT 10.02.2012 : No cover yet but it has an official release date (i've only been seeing it now but maybe the info's been out for a while...?) woot woot ! 3 Richelle Meads books in a year : what more can I ask for ;D ?

I will read ANYTHING Richelle Mead writes - i love her writing so much - and I've been waiting for her to come up with a new adult series since her Succubus books ended :D

I've been putting off this review for weeks and, still, I do not know where to start. Gameboard of the Gods was THAT good, yeah, and God knows I need the sequel now and cannot wait until next year. Just the thought of it send me in a frenzy and I start hyperventilating because... I just need it.

This story is different from what all of you are used to. It is set in a futuristic world that is stunningly convincing - it feels real! - and is full of reminders of what our society used to be and what...more

There’s no easy way to say it, I didn’t like this book.

I read through some other reviews while trying to put my thoughts together to write my own and mostly it seemed like people were confused by the “world building” and disappointed that Mead was doing something different than she normally does. This really didn’t seem that different or new to me. Mae, the “heroine” was basically an amalgamation of all the things I disliked about Rose from VA...more

    WRITTEN REVIEW:

I'll be completely honest here. I totally didn't know what to expect from Gameboard of the Gods, which is kinda bizarre considering Richelle Mead is kind of already a household name with her Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series. I bought her first book sometime ago and read the first 10 pages and was truthfully not impressed; the writing felt...more

richelle mead is one of those authors who seems to do no wrong in my book. i absolutely love her vampire academy series and even though a lot of other people hate it, her dark swan series, as well. this is why she has made it onto my exclusive "insta-buy-authors" shelf. if i see her name on a book, i grab it.

so naturally, when i saw that she had a dystopian sci-fi-fantasy novel on netgalley, i was all over that like a praetorian on ree...more

My first -- and far from last -- Richelle Mead novel, Gameboard of the Gods could not have been a better or more fun introduction to this popular author. A mix of futuristic science fiction, mystery, old school mythology, dystopia and post-apocalyptic genres, this book is weird and odd, and above all, really, really good. It takes a while to build into the tour de force of awesome it is, but the slow start is more than worth the time and...more

I’ll start with this: Gameboard of the Gods is a definite step up for Richelle Mead. It is her most ambitious project in terms of worldbuilding and structure, though perhaps not the plot.

Mead’s futuristic world is divided between two great forces: RUNA (Republic of the United North America) and EA (Eastern Alliance). Everything else are the provinces, barbaric in comparison, technologically and culturally inferior. Mead envisioned a world in which religion is considered to be a true da...more

Finally a well written dystopia book.
After the onslaught catastrophe debut of dystopian books. I had given up on reading this genre but every once and a while you'll come across with a book that will prove you wrong. And Gameboard of the Gods is this book!

After being involved in a gruesome brawl Mae Koskinen was given a mission to bring back the exile Justin March to Runa. And when they were assigned to work together they unravel some horrifying things that go against in everything what they bel...more

    I’m officially a masochist.
(I must thank Mrs Mead for giving me more insight into the true meaning of “frustration”.)

After the superficial main protagonist in VA and the frustrating ending to the Dark Swan series I’m still waiting for this book with anticipation.

I swear, after reading the end of Shadow Heir I went totally berserk! Headed for my desk, formed some great secret plans to boycott RM books, wanted to start a revolution, sow chaos everywhere etc. You know the usual. But I slept on it a...more

    Long review ahoy!

There are some things you need to savor. Slowly. Lemon tarts, Jonah Griggs and Revelry .

Gameboard of the Gods isn't one of them. It's a one-swallow book, IMO.

Everybody's already said it so I'm gonna join the parade-
Richelle Mead is aiming for the stars. This world of hers is truly ambitious.

Now I'm gonna rain on the parade-

    It has baseless foundation.

I do know how that sounds.

Here's the thing- I'm not a reader who goes into the background much. I accept weird things that have no...more

Gameboard of the Gods is something entirely different from author Richelle Mead. No vampires, no succubi, no fae. Instead, the reader is treated to a fast-paced mystery thriller with some supernatural elements.

The world is intriguing: a sort of post-apocalyptic world devastated by a virus that wiped out half the population. The remaining survivors suffer from all sorts of genetic woes: poor fertility, asthma, damaged hair and skin. In this world, organized religion is banned. Only state approve...more

    Shared her overview with fans!

Believe it or not, there's more going on in Richelleland than the movie and The Fiery Heart. No, really. And, it's happening sooner than those two. On June 4, Gameboard of the Gods (my twentieth novel!) comes out. Gameboard is the first book in my new adult series, Age of X. Yup, adult. There's been some confusion about whether it's YA, so just be advised there's some "content" in there. Of course, I was reading Clan of the Cave Bear and...more

I really enjoyed this book in the newest series from Mead. I have read and truly enjoyed both her teen and adult novels and this one does not disappoint. This one seems to take place in the future and is about Mae who works for the government in the military. After being reassigned, she meets Justin March who has been kicked out of the country due to a report he filed for his job. Religion and supernatural beliefs are frowned upon In this new world, but Justin seems to believe otherwise. After m...more

Gameboard of the Gods is the first book of the Age of X series by Richelle Mead. It is a very interesting novel that leaves you curious for more. The world she creates is fascinating and the information about this world is given gradually throughout the book. I liked that it was written this way because it keeps the reader from being inundated with too many details at one time. Gameboard of the Gods is set in a futurist world but felt more like a pa...more

First Thoughts: Wow, this book was so complex, yet so easy to follow, and I’m pretty sure we only scratched the surface in this installment. Sci-fi, dystopian AND mythology all in one!

I'd never heard of Richelle Mead before, but came across a review copy of this at my work. The premise sounded interesting so I started reading it.

It's set in a not-too-distant future after a good chunk of humanity has been wiped out by some nasty disease. The result of this is a world with new governmental structures and a mix of places that are very rigidly controlled and "provinces" that are lawless and dangerous -- it's sort of between the worlds of Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash and The Diamo...more

Anything Richelle Mead does is golden, and this book is another example of why she is my favorite author! From the prologue all the way to the last page, I was completely entertained by the story, the world, and the character development. Set as a futuristic urban fantasy, which is original in itself, the novel draws from worldwide mythology, making it one of the most unique books I’ve read in a while. Top that off with crime-solving detective work and just a touch of roman...more

I was a late convert to Ms. Mead's writing. I was introduced to the VA series last fall and basically tore through it. I even kept going with Sydney in Bloodlines, although she's not the kind of character I generally enjoy. But Mead got me on board with her as well. That was until book 3 in that series, which I was so disappointed in, because it just felt like filler.

Having just finished book 3 of Bloodlines, I don't know if I went into this with low expectations, especially since once again, he...more

This book was provided to me by netgalley.com for an honest review. I've been a fan of Richelle. Mead since reading her YA Vampire. Academy. series; so I was excited to discover she was writing an adult series. "Gameboard of the Gods" is truly a remarkable read created in a totally unique and creative world. The characters are imaginative and thought provoking.

My initial idea of this book was that it was about gods, and that the main characters somehow worked as bounty hunters or something similar to that, hunting down religious extremists.

Well. I was kind of wrong about that. The book was nothing like I expected; though not in a bad way. From the first page I was hooked, which was partly down to the overall sassiness of Justin to the *spoiler* voices in his head.*spoiler* Characterisation has always been one of Mead's strongest points and it's easy...more

For those of you who adore Richelle Mead, you may be a bit surprised by this book. I adore vampire academy, bloodlines series and the Georgina Kincaid (Succubus Blues) series. I even listen to the audiobooks while swimming. Her female characters are strong, the antagonists are typically fun/entertaining/add to the story and the romance doesn't make up the whole story. Unique and very intriguing story. This is one of the story that won't let you stop until the end. At first, it's confusing where Mae and Justin fits in the story. But as the story goes, I realized that they do not just fit in the story, but it actually revolves around them, being the pieces in the gameboard of the gods.

The story is really big, from the lives in the Runa, to the lives in the province such as in Panama, to Mae's character, to Justin's history and to Tessa's future. This story is e...more
