Set up in a countryside with a murder mystery, romance yet to be unraveled a twist here and there, best part the author gives all of these right in the beginning ... What more you need to get you reading ..Of course those were my initial thoughts...The prologue got me glued to the book ..I couldn't wait to know about Fianna's savior and the love of her life...But the stranger unexpectantly turns out to be in the very same house Fianna is forced to live while their old connection seemed distorted...more
This was a romance novel with lots of mystery mixed in. Shortly after Fianna's father dies and their cottage burns down Fianna and her mother and sister move to Dinsmore Hall. Once there, Fianna recognizes the only man she has ever desired, Gareth, the man she met 8 years previously when she witnessed a murderer trying to bury a body.

The reader is immersed in the English countryside of 18th century, with its edicts forbidding farmers to venture into the forest without their lord's permission. At that period, if a peasant were caught disobeying, they would incur significant penalties or death for violating the orders of their Lord even if it was to avoid starvation. It is within this context that the reader finds himself traveling into the forbidden forest alongside Fianna. A little girl of 11 years old a little, too curious,...more
There are only a few books that made me forget food and this is one of them. Or so I thought till I reached the middle. What the story lacks is a good editing; some of the scenes are definitely in excess -- forest searching scenes which contribute nothing to the progress of the story and the bedroom scenes bordering on boredom (which actually makes it look like cheap fiction using sex as a marketing strategy) are only some of the instances.
But excepting that the work is great; a beautiful Gothi...more

This historical romance and thriller has a very engaging and gripping plot. The story is unique and I liked the way the author takes it through so many surprises. The characters are well drawn and the flow of the story is engaging and captivating. There is lot of suspense and intrigue here as the lead characters come together to solve the mystery of decade old murders, along with searching for a missing mother. The romance and family drama along with the underlying mystery is tightly knit and kee...more
It's not actually all that bad of a book--the author does have some issues actually moving the plot along (think how Harry, Hermione and Ron spend way too many pages wandering around in the woods doing...nothing and you know what I mean). The author basically has 2 scenes she liked to repeat--Fianna going into the woods and getting caught, and Fianna and Graham almost having sex, but then not, and they're repeated relentlessly throughout the book. Some of her word choices are...hilarious to say...more
Good action, interesting plot twists, but a little racy for my personal taste. The author is very skilled with description, a little too much so in the bedroom scenes. But the mystery plot was good, the characters likable. Each time I thought I knew "whodunit", something happened to change my thoughts. The characters were very well-developed for a standalone novel, especially given the complexity of the plot. With so much conflict raging in each character, Wulf makes them seem very real and huma...more
I really enjoyed this mystery, romance and generally fun book. In the book a young man opens his heart to a young woman who comes to live in his father's home. She is and has been his desire for many years. Unfortunatey a family mystery which revolves around the murder of the young man's grandfather keeps them apart. The danger that it brings his young love causes drama beyond what either predicted, but brings them closer together and reveals a noble past.

I have already bought this book and need to get busy reading it. I enjoyed her last book, "The Heart Denied" and love the cover on this one....certainly makes me want to read it...very intriguing and mysterious..
To be totally honest. If I had read the jacket of the book before hand, and not gone by the recommendation of another, this book would never have made it onto my shelf. But it did. Some may be critical of some very NC-17 chapters in it, but beyond that there is a very good story to read. It seems to start like "Flowers in the Attic" and becomes more like the "Princess Bride" but a little more serious. In the end you will think it is more like the old TV show "Moonlighting". Remember: I rate this...more

Raised and still living in Louisville, KY, I'm fortunate to have a mom who loves books and read to me when I was a child (I especially remember The Velveteen Rabbit, Grimm's Fairy Tales, Andersen's Fairy Tales, and The Wreck of the Hesperus), and who enrolled me in The Great Books Program at my Parochial school. From there my favorite authors became the Bronte sisters, Charles Dickens, and Sir Art...more
