*Sniffles happily* This book took my breath away. It is incredibly beautiful, terrible and heartwarming. There are no words that can describe this book. Some books are easy to review, while others make you feel that there is no way you can do them justice in your review.

The first part is really dark but as color slowly sips into the story it is transformed into one of the most beautiful tales of healing and true love.

Highlander Most Wanted is the second book in the Montgomerys and Armstrongs series. It picks up right on the heels of the first book, Never Seduce a Scot, and while I truly enjoyed that story, I loved this one!

And the most heartbreaking trial of the story is also one of its triumphs, but I won't go into detail because I'd be giving away too much, and I wont deny you the experience of learning it for yourself. But, I will say that there were times I despised Genevieve for the same reasons I ached for her. This woman so hated, so scorned and mistreated by the McHugh clan is one of my favorite historical romance heroines ever, because despite her year in hell, they never broke her, they only made her stronger.

There were a few times I was sure I'd have to reach through the pages and throttle Bowen Montgomery! Stubborn, so devoted to his clan that I wanted to kick his man bits because I was sure he was too proud, too blind to see the truth right in front of his face... and then he'd stop, think, and realize that not everything is always as it seems. Honorable, compassionate, strong and sexy as sin, Bowen is a hero worthy of a woman like Genevieve.

The bottom line: I really can't say enough good things about Highlander Most Wanted. It's an exciting, sexy, poignant story about never giving up, never losing hope, and never turning your back on love because, in the end, love is all that matters.

My sincerest thanks to Netgalley and Ballantine Books for allowing me a copy of this book in return for an honest review. It was such a pleasure, start to finish.

She put wayyyy too much angst and abuse and sadness in this book. The girl was so broken that the love came off way to rushed. This is the second book in Banks newest Scottish series about the Montgomery brothers; and their enemies-to-allies, the Armstrong’s. The plotline of this one continues and closely mirrors the story of ‘Never Seduce a Scot’ to a great degree. Once again, we have a naïve, sweet young woman who is lied about by others, and maligned to the point that the H doesn’t quite know what to believe about her. The villain this time is not Ian McHugh, but his father Patrick McHugh; but this danger is dealt with early in the story; leaving Genevieve’s personal struggles with her situation as the central issue.

‘Highlander Most Wanted’ begins where ‘Never Seduce a Scot left off’. Graeme has killed Ian, his evil enemy and his wife Eveline’s long-time tormenter. Now, Graeme’s brothers Bowen and Teague, along with Eveline’s brothers, Aiden and Brodie Armstrong; have joined forces to take Ian’s keep from his father Patrick. Unbeknownst to them, Patrick has fled to fight another day, leaving the keep and it’s inhabitants unprotected. Genevieve McInnis is also in the keep. She is a young woman from a powerful family who caught Ian’s eye after Eveline spurned him. While she and an escort had been traveling to her betrothed’s home, she was kidnapped by Ian, and forced to be his whore. Ian has abused her, mistreated her, and disfigured her face. Of course Bowen is drawn to her, and they grow closer as he attempts to bring order to the former McHugh stronghold.

There has to be a kink thrown into the romance of course, perpetuated in the age-old way of trying to make Bowen mistrust Genevieve. As with Eveline, the other people in the keep dislike Genevieve intensely; even though she has plainly been abused and held captive. The story being whispered to Bowen about her is that she was Ian’s willing mistress, the mastermind behind Ian's plan against the Montgomery’s and Eveline; and that she had convinced Ian to abduct her and murder all her escort of men. As plot twists go, it was a bit flimsy; but of course, Bowen didn’t buy this story for long, especially once his feelings for Genevieve started to grow. Bowen cared deeply for Genevieve, and wooed her gently; but she missed her family desperately. Bowen eventually came to the realization that he was going to have to let her go back to her own family, and make her peace with them.

Another excellent Maya Banks highlander romance which left me with a smile on my face and a heavy heart that it ended .

I really liked both the hero and heroine of the book and found my heart going out to how much Genevieve had to suffer both at Ian's hands and then at the clans after Ian died . I loved how Bowen championed her even after finding out the terrible secret she hides .

Maya Banks as a historical romance novelist is a new discovery for me. I began reading her earlier Highlander trilogy and gorged myself on it in a few days. I was so excited to discover she has a new Highlander series. You may ask if these are historically accurate? Nah, but ... it is good. It is a wonderful escape.

This novel centers on two families, previously at odds against each other but now are allied. Reading the first story before this one is a must. As the set-up of the drama and battle that happens at the beginning of Highlander Most Wanted happens at the conclusion of #1.

Banks' is very good at creating scarred heroines - both physically and emotionally. The first in this series dealt with a less than perfect heroine and this one followed that pattern. This book is moving. I read this series and Banks' other historical romance series to be entertained as an escape -- romance, sexy heroes, sexy scenes and a faraway setting. Yet this book was more than that for me. I did not expect to be as emotionally moved as I was by Highlander Most Wanted. This novel brought me to tears several times -- by what the heroine endured and how the hero treated her. Ultimately the resolution of the tension and the problem is satisfying. To get to that resolution is a slow build to. It does not happen quickly or easily. The setting, while likely not historically accurate, is painted with a realistic feel in that the characters are fighting for daily comforts -- food, warmth and safety. It is sort of an adult Little House on the Prairie with ummm, romance and sex.

I cannot wait until #3 in this series is released. These are great escape novels. Do not expect Outlander and do not expect detailed historical accuracy -- but you can expect an emotional story with a satisfying ending.(less)

Facing a new lord, Genevieve is just one step away from surrendering herself, in mind and body, to whoever will give her freedom.

Genevieve is an incredibly strong woman. She has suffered so much in both body and spirit, yet she emerges from her horrors with a true dignity and a truer strength anyone would admire. Despite her spirit, however, she is undoubtedly human and at the verge of giving up, trying to enclose herself in a protective shell that would block all future pain. It takes an amazing person to defend those who had ostracized her and insulted her at every turn, and even more amazing that she would stand up to unknown adversities when Bowen storms the McHugh clan. I also like that she is very real for someone in her position, willing to sacrifice what's left of her morals to save her life, that desperateness revealing the depth of her emotional scars.

For all that Genevieve needs, Bowen is the most fitting of them all. He is just the kind of strong and protective hero to clean away all of Genevieve's scars and show her the beauty of life that was stripped away from her. Bowen's loyalty to his laird comes into conflict with his initial perception of Genevieve, but his understanding character makes him see the true Genevieve and comes to love her. For him, this novel was a test of character and leadership, and ultimately, finding the missing piece to the puzzle of his heart, in Genevieve.

The characters are wonderful, and I greatly emphasized with both Genevieve and Bowen as they navigated their lives and through each other. The plot is engaging and fast-paced, adding just enough excitement among pensive sequences to display the external and internal facets of the characters. The teaser of Genevieve's friend Taliesan, and Brodie Armstrong, is sure to become another wonderfully crafted healing romance.

I find myself in awe of Mrs. Banks's writing once again, as the words dance off the page to create a blazing chemistry between Genevieve and Bowen, their love so tender and strong that I shed tears for their final happiness. Once again,this is a stunning novel by Maya Banks, sure to lure in every romance lover and make for hours of uninterrupted reading. I am now anticipating the next book in the series, Highland Ever After, featuring Taliesan McHugh and Brodie Armstrong.

I highly recommend this book to any romance reader, as they will be sure to fall in love with Genevieve and Bowen.

Bowens and Genevieves story haven't puled me in from the beginning as I would have loved. I was struggling at first. Very much so. But I'm glad I am so stubborn!

Such a heartbreaking soulful story. Maya keeps amazing me every time she writes a highlander book. How does she do that? Make the story and its characters so unique? Write it in such a way that you cannot even compare her own highlander books with each other? Simply splendid. This was more of a 4 or 4.5/5. But I finally gave it a 5.

Bowen comes to the McHugh keep with a lot of anger and planning on avenging his sister-in-law. But things there are not what it seems to have been. Women and kids come forward for a truce instead of the warriors(if any?) or men. And then enters Genevieve who captivates him with her courage and pride. I wish I could say more, but no, I don't want to give away any kind of spoilers. Bowen even with all the hard outlook, was really a very reasonable and just leader. His helplessness, his choices, were all so heartwrenching. I could feel his pain and what courage it took him to choose one over the other. I loved that, it was not a love at first sight or the instant attraction towards Genevieve. I was so glad and happy that he began to love Genevieve for who she was and how she came past all her sufferings. For that alone, Bowen captures my heart. Such a hero!

Genevieve, my heart went out to that girl. Sexual assault stories always makes a bigger impact on me, simply because every time I read them, I can feel that pain they must have went through. Not the physical type, but the mental trauma. Its a very sensitive issue. I can't believe she survived what she did. The amount of courage, determination she must have had to live that one year of hell. Am sure even hell is not this bad. Its a wonder she even started feeling for Bowen. But at the end, she deserved all the love he gave her. No one deserved it more than her. She is going to be one heroine, I won't be forgetting very easily(or ever). Also I am glad she had at least one friend in Talie at the McHugh keep.

The chemistry between Genevieve and Bowen set the pages on fire. Their love was beautiful, soulful and at times, breathtaking. They both deserved each other and I am so very happy they finally found their HEA.

I really wanted Ian and Patrick to suffer after knowing about Genevieve. They died too easily. That's what made me give a 4. Death is too small or easy a punishment for those brutes and monsters. It makes me sound like a bloodthirsty lass, but they deserved it so much.

I adored the small and subtle scenes between Brodie and Talie. I wonder if they do have a book of their own. It was a joy to read about the ever sweet Evaline and Graeme again. Rorie brings about so much energy in her part.I literally start grinning so big from her non stop talk and antics. I really really hope she gets a book of her own. It will be so much fun to see how her man tries to handle her. And of course I hope she never gets wounded emotionally. I love her spirit and let it stay there as it is. All the other characters were well suited.

The Montgomery’s and Armstrong’s come to the McHugh Keep wanting the laird’s head for his part in kidnapping Bowen Montgomery’s (now) sister by marriage but what they find is a sorry group of people scared for their lives while the laird and a few of his supporters have fled. Bowen is asked to stay at the McHugh Keep by his brother, Graeme, to get a sense of what they’re dealing with and to give the Keep leadership they now need. Bowen finds his heart melting when he meets Genevieve, a scarred woman who wants nothing more than to feel safe.

I loved the romance in this book. There isn’t much action, no huge fight that builds up as the story progresses. There is one fight when the McHugh laird comes back but the book’s focus is primarily on Genevieve, her story of what she endured and survived over the past year and her romance with Bowen, her new champion. Even with Ian dead, Genevieve is constantly abused by the other women and men who remained at the Keep. They call her names, throw rocks at her, and take every opportunity they can to humiliate her. I never really understood why the women acted so harshly toward her. It was well known that she was being held there against her will, that Ian was forcing her and nothing that happened to her was by her own choice, but the women still hurled insults at her anytime they saw her. I wanted there to be more of an explanation on why she was treated so badly by everyone at the Keep. Her only true friend is Taliesan, a woman with a limp but who let nothing stop her in her fierce protection of Genevieve.

Bowen doesn’t take it lightly when the people of the clan treat Genevieve horribly and more than one person is killed because of it. Genevieve went for so long without a kind word or soft touch, Bowen can’t help but give her anything she needs, including tender kisses and most importantly to her, protection and a feeling of safety that she hasn’t had in so long. Bowen also gives her hope for the future, promising her either a safe place to live with his own clan, or he’ll escort her to an abbey if that is her wish. I just found their romance to be so sweet and I loved seeing Bowen protect her and take care of her, especially when she craved hope and he gave her that from the moment he stepped foot into the Keep.

For as much as Genevieve went through, I liked getting moments from her that showed little bits of her character that were so beaten down over the year of her captivity. Whether it was using her incredible skill with a bow to kill men who waged a war against Bowen and his men or allowing herself to find comfort in having true friends again, especially with Taliesan, we had so many scenes where Genevieve was just getting beaten down by words or force by McHugh clan members, it was nice to see her gain some confidence and allow herself to find strength with her friends.

Taliesan’s only real page time was limited to a small supporting role as Genevieve’s friend, and I can’t wait to get her story next. I want to know what caused her limp and I want to see how the romance develops between her and Brodie Armstrong, one of men who stayed along with Bowen to figure out what to do with the McHugh Keep.

Highlander Most Wanted delivers a very sweet, tender love story that I enjoyed very much. Even with the action being a little more subdued, that was just fine with me. Genevieve’s gone through so much, to get her backstory, learn what she’s had to overcome and to see her live with hope instead of despair was a nice journey.(less)

It did take me a bit longer to get used to Genevieve though. At first, she seemed far too proud, and the way that she was willing to lead people to believe she was a willing whore, rather than let anyone know what had been done to her against her will, was really frustrating. The McHughs knew the truth and still mistreated her. But when the Montgomerys arrived, she purposefully led Bowen to believe she was a whore, which made him hate her rather than pity her. It took me a long time to warm up to her. Eventually though, I loved her. She steeled herself against everything that had been done to her so much, that after the threat had been eliminated, she didnt know how to take her walls back down. When she finally did, it was unbelievable that she so sweet underneath. That she was capable of surviving what she did.

I was surprised by the lack of smuttiness in this. Not that I am complaining, the romance was beautiful regardless. But I read a lot of Elizabeth Hoyt, plus this book is listed as erotica under the Genres section, but I would not categorize it as such. The first sex scene was over halfway through the book, and then I can only remember there being one more after that, for a total of two. Thats not bad at all. Thats just general 'Adult Romance', imo.

"By saying it aloud, he thought perhaps it might seem silly to him. That perhaps he'd been swept up in the moment with Genevieve and that maybe he wasn't quite to the point of love yet.
But he was dead wrong. The words felt right on his lips. Saying them aloud only confirmed what his heart already knew. He was well and truly in love with the lass, and there was naught but contentment within him at the whole idea."

I totally love how Bowen fell for her first and he was determined to woo her, something he never had to do before because he always had too many women falling at his feet. The POV was alternating but I think there were more chapters from Bowen, probably since the series is 'The Montgomerys and Armstrongs'. So I am not really sure when Genevieve fell for Bowen, but it was much, much later. But it was so sweet to see from the male POV. I love how he adored and worshiped her, and wanted to be her champion and protect her from everything evil in the world. He was totally amazing and swoon-worthy. :P

I also loved Taliesan and I could tell she was being set up to be the heroine of the next book in the series. I cannot wait to read her and Brodie's story. But first I have to go back and read about Eveline and Graeme. I loved how all the heroines in this series are scarred or handicapped. Its not something you see often.

I loved this poignant sophmore entry to the series, carrying on immediately after Never Seduce a Scot. The enemy has been routed and the victor is here to not so much claim the spoils but to claim justice.

Highlander Most Wanted was not your typical historical romance but boy did it pack a punch. Our heroin, Genevieve McInnes has endured torture and degradation and yet she fights on. My heart ached for Genevieve and I wanted to be her champion but she had Bowen.

Bowen is an amazing champion. He is captivated by Genevieve’s unfailing strength and looks past the physical damage done by her captures offers Genevieve insight into a brighter future.
