Mark of the Wolf (Wolves of Black River #2)
by
T.L. Shreffler (Goodreads Author)
Playing girlfriend to a werewolf isn't easy and Maddy has enough problems, like an abusive step-father, a greedy loan shark and way too much math homework. But Gareth is everything a man should be: six feet tall, green eyes, black hair to die for... and somewhat animalistic tendencies. How is Maddy supposed to straighten out her life while helping him become Alpha of his o...more

Just finished this book and got to say it was good but not one of my favourites. I too thought it may have been a YA book and began reading it and well it has 'adult content' throughout so just use this as a warning to anyone who thinks the same as I did.
I didnt like Gareth at all. I think he sort of used Maddy for his own benefits and didn't tell her anything till the last minute were he kinda showed her instead of telling her.Gareth annoyed me as well, his answers to everything was 'kill him'...more

When I first began this book, I had in my head it was YA. Not because it was misrepresented or anything, but just because that was in my brain. For that reason, I was a bit shocked when things took an adult turn in language and content. Once I got into the mind set that this was an adult book (which it really, truly is), I was completely engrossed in the story. It was different from many were stories I have read in that it really showed the animalistic nature of weres, even when they are in huma...more
So Goodreads has this listed as the second book in the series but it is actually first. It gave me a little heart attack when I came here and thought I read the second book before the first AGAIN, because I am always doing that it seems.
So I think this book should be renamed Tales from the Trailer Park. The people and places were all very run down and poor and lets not forget the old beat up Camaro.

Eleven year old Maddie suffers physical abuse at the hands of her stepfather every time he decides to drink himself into oblivion. Her only escape are the woods behind her house where she often runs to escape his belt, what ever the time of day….whatever the weather. Her saviour comes in the form of a tall dark haired man who always seems to know when she needs him, he carries her sleeping battered form to safety without saying a word then disappears not to be seen again until the next time...more

I found this book when I was looking for a good werewolf read, and I'm so glad I found it.
It starts out with Maddy meeting Gareth when she was very young in the mountains. She had escaped the hell at home and just wanted to be away from it all. Then along came Gareth to help her back home. This "dance" between them continued over the years until finally Maddy gets into trouble a little over her head, and needs help. Gareth is the one to rescue her, and it leads to a whole world Maddy never knew...more

First off let me just say that I didn't like werewolves before reading this. I read a lot of popular series with werewolves and just didn't get the appeal but after reading this I know why werewolves are so awesome! I really enjoyed that Gareth (who's a werewolf) actually acted like a wolf. When reading most books that contain werewolves/shifters they always act very human, but given that their wolves they should act differently than humans, more wolf like and animalistic. I thought Gareth was r...more
This book was set in high school but definitely not suitable for young adults. This book was geared more towards new adults and adults. There were a lot of sexual situations in it. That being said, the storyline was good and I enjoyed it. I liked the characters and the book never lagged. The action was entertaining and the romance was smoking.
An exceptional PNR featuring an unusual Werewolf. Was fortunate to find this gem on smashwords.com. Excellent Character & Plot development. Read this one in about 3 hours flat.. It was just that good ;)
This is not just another werewolf story, because this is not your typical werewolf. Unlike some other werewolf stories where the hero is more than animal Gareth is as temperamental, unrefined and as wild as the wolf within. He can be protective and tender, but the urges of the wolf often outweigh sensibility. Rough around the edges and a face and body to crave, Maddy is instantly under his spell. I liked this book and would definitely recommend this to other readers :)
