Into the Dreaming is a short story set in Moning’s Highlander/Fever world originally published in the anthology Tapestry in 2002. I first read it in the spring of 2010 when I was on a desperate hunt for clues to discover what the heck Jericho Barrons was and trying to assuage the pain of the wait for Shadowfever. We see Queen Aibhoil and the unseelie king (for the first time!). The story is clever and I loved it (as I do all of KMM's highlanders).

OK...I know this was just supposed to hold me over until Iced is released later this year, but as usual I want more. I really liked Into the Dreaming and the deleted scenes from Kiss of a Highlander.
I am super glad she trashed the first version of Dark Highlander, because it was horrible. I guess my reaction is harsh because it is one of my favorites of her highlander series. The first 116 pages of this book is Book 8 of Moning's Highlander series. Short but pretty good. Then Moning shares some personal info about herself, after that is a proposal for a book she didn't sell, then some deleted scenes from Kiss of the Highlander, followed by the introduction to The Dark Highlander which she scrapped and rewrote, and finally an excerpt from Darkfever.
Most of the book was interesting--I didn't particularly like the intro to The Dark Highlander, I'm glad she changed it.

I’m a huge fan of Karen Marie Moning. I love both her Highlander and her Fever series. When this short story was re-released I had to have it. It wasn’t quite what I expected, but it really took me back to the Highlander series. I adored those books from first to last, and I remember why now. Moning is such a wonderful writer, whether it’s romance or urban fantasy.

I feel a bit badly giving this a 2, because I'm probably not the right person to be judging this book accurately.
I clearly accidentally stumbled into the middle of a series with this one. This book is actually a couple stories from the author that either are separate from her series or was an unpublished element of it-- however I sense that the reader is supposed to either know the characters or know the style and thus be continued on an ongoing journey. This book is easily the cheapest, silliest, most unnecessary, and insipid of the Highlander romances, which is saying quite a bit. Moning obviously called this one in and then her editor spilled coffee over half the manuscript. What the editor managed to piece together was sent to the printer, whose hard drive failed, and the data recovery team only got back every other chapter.

I got the "new" version with all the extras from KMM. I liked the little story "Into the Dreaming", although it wasn't as good as the other highlander books. I appreciated the story for what it was, though, and I realize it was an early story for her. I could see how KMM developed and honed her craft.

I am still wondering where this book fits into the Highlander Series. I think maybe it could be read in the beginning or the end.

This was an uniformed disappointment, on my part. This is a short, 70page excerpt from a larger novel. This writing was great as usual, the story line fun and imaginative.

I just can’t get enough of KMM’s writing. For being a novella, this story has just as much drama and heat as her full length Highlander and Fever books. Right now I'm in Part 1: Chapter 5. There was quite a shocker as to who Mac killed at the end of the previous book. I'm hoping that this person isn't really dead and he'll show back up later in the story. To me him being gone is not something I want to see happening. I think Mac needs this person to complete her goal in the story.

The novella, Into the Dreaming, is a nice little story in the Fae-verse, and the bits and bites of other works are enjoyable but not her greatest works. What was the most insightful for me in this publication were the insights into her writing process and the stories behind the stories. That in itself makes this book worth the read. This series was done as a buddy read with Vika and Sultan, (WHAT UP GIRLS, lol). This series alone completely made me re-think my dislike of historical romances and completely 100% turned us three girls into die-hard kilt loving girls. WOW, what a great series it was.

I was a fan of Karen Marie darker, edgier Fever series before my favorite librarian told me there was a connection with her Highlander series. So, naturally iPad to check them out! This book, Into the Dreaming, was originally released as a separate novella, and I hadn't had a chance to read it when it first came out. I'm glad I didn't, because I might have missed this re-release with Bonus Material from the author! I just loooove me some Bonus Material! :-)

I may be rating this one a tiny bit high because the last "romance" I read was so very bad...

Moning writes about two worlds - the one inhabited by the characters in her Fever series (looking forward to the NEW Fever books!) and the one inhabited by the characters in her Highlander series.

As big of a fan I'm of KMM I can't believe it took me a year to buy this book. Especially since I've been dying to get my hands on it since before it was re published you couldn't even find the story anywhere. Not to mention all of the bonus material in it. The cover is absolutely beautiful. I've tagged the book with both Fever and Highlander tags because of some of the bonus material, it's has a little bit of everything.
