J. Sheridan Le Fanu (1814-1873) is best known for the early vampire tale, "Carmilla," but he also wrote numerous other works, including tales that have earned him a reputation as an early innovator in the field of the ghost story. Despite the fact that Le Fanu is often compared to Edgar Allan Poe by those who know of his work and who have studied the history of Gothic Literature, this Irish writer gets only a modicum of the respect he deserves.

This anthology of essays reprints one about le fanu's possible influence on the Brontes. I also like the cover a lot.
