Wedding season is definitely at the height of the season right now and this book is a great one to read during these months. However, a word of caution, if you are the bride, maybe read it after you have tied the knot!

I became a fan of Milly Johnson when I read A Spring Affair last year. The book had a wonderful feel-good quality to it, and the characters had been brought to life so well that I felt indignant, even angry, on behalf of the protagonist when she ran into trouble.

I expected to feel similar about White Wedding. While I didn't feel as connected to the characters in this book as I did in the previous, I did enjoy it enough that I found it difficult to stop turning the pages.

This was my first Milly Johnson book, I am unsure why I haven’t got around to reading one the authors books before because the covers of her books are very appealing to me and now I have read the synopsis of some more of her books they sound right up my street.

The author creates three fantastic and loveable characters with Violet being my favourite as I could relate more to her than the other two characters. Max defiantly brought the entertainment factor to the book with all of her wedding wishes being based on the Gypsy Wedding style. Bel really did have a hard time but I was a little frustrated at the situation she put herself through which I wish I could say more but I don’t want to give away to much detail as it will ruin her part of the story.

The book is split up into three parts one part for each ladies weddings and it was great that the chapters were very short as it makes it easy to be able to pick up and put down when you just have time to snatch a chapter or two, although this book had me gripped after the second chapter so I ended up finishing it in a day!

I loved the suspense that Milly Johnson manages to create especially with Bel I knew something wasn’t right early on in the book with Bel but I couldn’t figure it out so I had a shock coming. This was the same with the ending of the book it was just not possible to predict the ending which made you keep turning the pages quickly trying to get to the end to see how it all pans out.

This was a genuinely perfect read with a realistic storyline and three great characters. I highly recommend this book and I will now be on the lookout for more books by Milly Johnson as she has such a warm and enjoyable writing style I am definitely a new member of the Milly Johnson fan club!(less)

I have read every single book Milly Johnson has written so far, and loved each and every one of them. The warmth in her writing is what makes it so readable, and each time you can't help but fall in love with the characters and be sad when you have to leave them behind when you have finished the book. Somehow, Milly is now releasing 2 books a year, and this is her first release of 2012, White Wedding, and will be followed in October with Winter Flame. The theme of weddings is also pretty relevant to the spring season (although it feels more like autumn at the moment, brrr!), and I couldn't wait to see how the story of all these white weddings was going to pan out!

This book is the story of 3 strangers - Violet, Bel and Max who meet in the White Weddings bridal shop when they are shopping for their own wedding dresses. Max has been with fiancé Stuart for donkey's years, and the pair have finally decided to tie the know, although Max has her heart set on a "big fat gypsy wedding" while Stuart is more hoping for a quiet do at the registry office. Violet is engaged to Glyn, but can't honestly say she is still in love with him after a change of lifestyle has left him a different man from the one she fell in love with, but can't bring herself to tell anyone the dreadful truth. Finally, there's Bel who is engaged to be married to Richard, her dream man, or so she thought, and when a shocking truth is found out by Bel, her whole world begins to fall apart. Which of these white weddings will get the happy-ever-after that the brides crave and deserve?

I have to say this is perhaps one of my favourite Milly Johnson books to date. It has likeable, and realistic characters who aren't skinny, drop dead gorgeous heroines but are real women, with real problems, and real lifestyles. I loved that when I read each of their stories, I could find myself relating to bits and bobs within them, and laughing and crying along with them too. I love how Milly brings 3 strangers together because of their weddings, and they strike up a close bond, like only women can very quickly. My favourite character was definitely Bel, I felt so sorry for her, and really warmed to her, praying that she would see sense in the end (don't want to spoilt it so won't say any more!). She was just so nice, and perhaps the character who gets the most time in the book, although just by a bit. I did like the others but I wanted to tell Violet to get a bit of a backbone, and Max to stop being so rude to her fiance Stuart, even if he was a bit of a wash-out!

The scenarios that happen in the book are all too realistic for some people, but they're written about so well that I found myself completely glued to the book, and not wanting to put it down so that I could find out what the girls were going to do next. I love how Milly managed to write a really funny part and has you laughing out loud, and the next you're sniffling into a tissue with a sad scene, her writing just brings everything to life on the page, and is a joy to read from the first page to the very last. I loved the descriptions of the wedding dresses, especially when they take place in the White Weddings shop, with the owner Freya who was a bit of an enigma. Yes, the weddings are important in the book, of course, but it's really the journey that these characters go on, of self-discovery and self-worth and I found it a wonderful read.

As usual, Milly Johnson has wrapped up a wonderful tale within the pages of White Wedding, and I for one whole-heartedly recommend it. It's a perfect book to snuggle up with in the evening under a blanket, with a glass of wine and big bar of chocolate. It's funny, it's sad and most importantly it's a great read that had me reading it at every spare minute I got. With a cast of likeable characters - although the men could do with a bit of a slap to be honest! - it's got everything you need and want from a fantastic chick lit book. Milly Johnson has definitely become one of my favourite authors, and makes the wait for her next book worthwhile as soon as you dive into it. I went into White Wedding just knowing that I would love it and become a Milly Johnson fan. I wasn't wrong. White Wedding was my first foray into Milly Johnson's fiction and I am now working on getting hold of her other novels (3 out of 7 ain't bad). It is a true feel good chick lit that follows three very different women with three very different stories as they become friends and face their weddings together and the issues that come along with them and thus learn what would really make them happy.

I found the writing style very odd to begin with. It seems fairly ordinary, but every now and then it switches perspectives without warning, and I don't just mean between the three characters but with everybody. We see this story through the eyes of Bel, Violet and Max, of course, but also through those of Freya, their fiancés, parents.. heck even the postman! Usually I would put this down to bad writing form but this is where I found it odd - it didn't bother me at all. It wasn't as jarring as it is in other novels and you do get used to it fairly quickly. It even helps the story along and gives it just a little more depth. Though I did find myself feeling much more sympathetic towards Stuart, Max's fiancé, because of this than I did for Max herself who was just a little too selfish for my tastes.

Violet's fiancé Glyn was such a horror. Whilst I am not fond of the representation of mental health that he presents, I am afraid that there are indeed people like him in this world and that in itself is terrifying. He's basically one of the "nice guys". You know the type who think they're so wonderful so why does nobody love them? Ugh he was horrid. I wanted to kick him in the balls.

And Bel's story had my little heart a-fluttering. I adored her parts. Trouble is, I wouldn't want to spoil the story so I can't discuss why I liked it so much!

Not a single one of the characters in White Wedding are by any means perfect and they all feel so alive as a result. That, I feel, is Milly's greatest accomplishment here. Not even the heroines of the story are entirely innocent in everything they do but even so I found myself craving their happy endings and by golly I finished this book with a smile on my face.

Throughout the story is the presence of Freya, the owner of the White Wedding bridal store who resides in the background but determines to make women happy the only way she can.

I did notice a couple of small hints at magical realism near the end which I usually love in my fiction but I didn't think it fit in well at all here. It just felt too out of place. However, the feel good factor of the novel more than made up for it. There is a certain charm to the writing style which makes me positive that I'll love her other books just as much as I did this one.(less)

I liked this book a lot, but I also ended up frustrated with it a lot too, and that's why I've only given it 3 stars rather than 4. Written in the third person this allows the reader to get to know the women, their fiancés and their lives.

Bel’s wedding is explosive! What a wedding to start with! I loved the wedding cake … She flees to the Bronte cottages on the Moors that are owned by her father to gather herself together. It is here she meets the mysterious man alluded to in the synopsis. The antagonism and Bel’s eventual return to her life are brilliantly portrayed. Max’ wedding is next followed by Violet’s. There are realisations and trauma leading up to each of them.

In the background is White Wedding owner Freya. There is a lot of intrigue surrounding her. No-one knows for sure her background. The part she plays in the story is very subtle but causes major changes that alter paths – and is magical!

All the characters are believable and easy to identify with. I actually don’t have a favourite … because they are all brilliant (I’m including in this the characters readers are meant to dislike).

There are many levels to White Wedding. Although the main theme is the weddings, I became engrossed in all the women’s lives. There is much depth and I think all women should have a ‘Freya’ in their lives before their marriages … Milly Johnson explores step-families, manipulation/obsession, insecurities, mental illness/Alzheimer’s and expectations. I LOVED the metaphysical aspect

Milly’s different length of chapters enhances the flow of the tale being created. You’ll find Milly’s humour sprinkled throughout alongside plenty of tension. There were a few surprises for me – I knew something was coming from Bel’s wedding being written up in the Melbourne Star but never guessed how that fitted in. What a shocker! I also wasn’t expecting Glyn to go that far … or Bel’s ‘husband’ Richard’s secret … and what a brilliant ending!

I’ve been so engrossed in Bel, Max and Violet’s lives that it has to be a keeper for me!

Have to say I love Milly Johnson and in this little gem this doesnt disappoint one little bit. Milly takes us on a journey with 3 ladies all in the throngs of getting wed. Have to say I related to Bel alot more than I did to Violet or Max, yet Bel is furthest from my life. Each girl lets the reader into their ideal wedding... all the working up to and the big day its self.

I really enjoyed all the previous Milly Johnson books that I’ve read so I was looking forward to reading this one which is her latest novel.

I loved the idea that these three women, who had never met before, came together in a bridal shop and ended up forging a really close, strong friendship. This friendship was very natural and, at times, comforting which made me feel that fate had brought them all together.

I really liked all the main characters, Max was so enthusiastic and I loved that because it was very entertaining to read, she was a strong character who knew just what she wanted and how to get it.

I felt incredibly sad for Violet – just reading about her life made me feel like a bird trapped in a cage. I loved her vision for the ice-cream parlour and as it was all coming together I found myself wanting to go there, to experience the delicious-sounding ice-cream she was making. She had a lovely Nan who I really took to because she reminded me of people in my own life, one part that I particularly enjoyed and giggled at was the bottle opener incident so look out for that if you read it!

Bel was a fun, cheeky character and I had a feeling she was up to something, I had a little guess at what that might be and was pleased to find out that I was right! What ensued was entertaining and explosive so keep an eye out for that part too! I also thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent in her family’s cottage, it was funny and I felt like it helped me understand her better.

There were many things in this book that had me laughing out loud and a few moments that made me feel very sad, sometimes I did find it a little bit predictable but that didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book in the slightest. Actually there were a couple of big shocks towards the end that I really hadn’t seen coming so it wasn’t all predictable.

Had I not already been married I think I probably would’ve felt very nervous about the whole idea after reading this book, this might be worth considering if you are planning a wedding yourself!

This is a fun and, at the same time, emotional book that I really enjoyed.(less)

Very very fluffy but very very enjoyable.

It takes a little while for the story to get started: at first the three main characters seemed a little bit 2-dimensional but the more I was reading the more I get to appreciate them (especially Bel).

Towards the end of the novel, there were a couples of twists I hadn't seen coming and it's rare enough in chick lit' to be mentioned.

I always love a milly Johnson book and look forward to the next fuzzy feeling inducing love story. Very much to type you warm and relate to the female characters bel, max and violet willing their tragic relationships to end for a more deserving one. Wow!
I've just finished reading White Wedding by Milly Johnson, and I can honestly say I haven't read such a good book in a long time!!
It's fast paced and doesn't take long at all until you get into the book and storyline(s)!
The characters have so much depth and I really grew to love them.
Milly Johnson's style of writing is warm, funny and just lovely! Most of the chapters were short and this made it a great read as I'd always want to read that 'one more chapter' before putting book down.

I am sad that this is the last book I have by Milly Johnson - I will be on the look out for more! I enjoyed this book about 3 weddings that were not...laughed about Maxine and the Big Fat Gypsy wedding theme...especially the references to Coronation street characters!! I could not believe how quickly I read this book because I found it easy to ready, perfect to read in bed after a tough day at work!! Very entertaining...I love Yorkshire!!!

I wanted thoughtless fanfic and I got it with this book. It's light, full of cliches, unrealistic, trying a little too hard to make you go 'aaaww' but still getting you to keep turning the pages. It's the literary equivalent of a bag of chips.

I might have rated it higher if it hadn't decided to write in a completely ridiculous re-hashing of 'Jane Eyre' into the plot. Utter blasphemy!

Absolutely loved this book... A Sunday Times bestseller.... got it from the library and couldn't put it down. A real page turner for me. Kept me gripped and each time I had to stop reading, I couldn't wait to get back to the story. It's been a pleasure to read and I will look out for more of Milly Johnson books in the future.

Lovely summer read. Three friends who all meet whilst buying wedding dresses might sound a bit contrived but I can promise you that it isn't. All of Milly Johnnson's books contain characters that you wish you could meet and this one is no different. It's also good to read about northern women for a change!

I really enjoyed this book. The three female characters Bel, Max & Violet all held the book together as their stories were told. Violet was my favourite character and Dan was my favourite male in the book.
I did find Max very selfish with her wedding ideas , though funny too.
The summary at the end of the book was good to.see as it is sometimes left to your imagination.
