Full Review at: What's Beyond Forks?

Perilous Light followed Beckoning Light flawlessly. Like Beckoning Light, the story is told from both Charlotte and Kevin's point of view. In addition, Calvin also gets his point of view shown as well. I enjoyed his perspective. It gave you a glimpse of where he stands. Characters grow throughout the book, and you'll question some of their true allegiances. Perilous Light introduces you to new lands, new species, and new characters. They all come together and...more

Book Review

“Perilous Light” by Alyssa Rose Ivy was even better than the first book “Beckoning Light.” As before I was instantly drawn into the story and intrigued by the characters. I was so engrossed in the story I didn’t notice it was coming to end until I could no longer go to another page on my Kindle. I then gave a howl of disappointment as I did not want to leave my friends.

The story drew me right in and I was immediately in the dual world Charlotte, Kevin, Liam, James, and Calvin inhabit....more

After I finished the first book Beckoning Light, I immediately picked up the second, Perilous Light by Alyssa Rose Ivy.

It is unusual that the second book is stronger than the first, but this is by far the better book. We get more adventure, more development of the characters, and a better look at this other world.

Perilous Light takes place a year after the end of the last book. Our main protagonist, Charlotte, has been struggling with being away from her soulmate, or Gerard, who still remains i...more

First off, go over and check out my review for Beckoning Light!

I must say that I was nervous about the second book in this series. I enjoyed the first, but the second really knocked it out of the park for me!!

I love the different cast of characters, but my favorite would have to be Liam. He is the type of guy that we all wish we had. Even just for a friend. He is sweet, caring and very protective over Charlotte.

I enjoyed having alternate POVs between Kevin and Charlotte. I enjoyed watching Kevin...more

Perilous Light is the second book in Alyssa Rose Ivy’s Afterglow trilogy. With lots of characters and civilizations, plus separate worlds, it might seem a little confusing to anyone who’s not read part one. But it follows the previous book nicely. The narrators, Charlotte and Kevin, have grown a little older. Meanwhile love interest Calvin gets to add his voice, useful since the battle lines are going to be drawn three ways. Sports star Kevin might learn a new appreciation for his sister’s shyne...more

Perilous Light is action packed and full of twists and turns that will rival the previous book.
In this book we finally get to see more of my favorite couple Charlotte and Calvin, but we also find out that there are still a lot of surprises left for Charlotte and her brother on their journey. Charlotte has done a lot of growing up in the past year, but she faces even bigger trials that will test her abilities to the limit.

I highly enjoyed seeing Kevin finally meet his match in the last book and...more

{my thoughts} – This book picks up a year later after the first. It is written in the point of view of Charlotte, Calvin and Kevin. Charlotte is forced to come to terms with her position is the new Essence. Kevin is faced with learning how to lead innocent individuals into battle. Calvin is forced to walk away from the only individual that has offered him guidance in order to protect Charlotte’s well being.

The more I read this story line the more I become sad when it ends. It ends leaving me wan...more

My Summary:
A lot has happened in the year since Charlotte left Calvin in Energo. Her brother has left for college, Henry is living with them, James is still in Charleston helping to guard her, and Liam is ever faithful always there to provide comfort and friendship. While her life in Charleston remains relatively safe, she can't stop thinking about Calvin and how she left him behind. She's also had to come to terms with what is means for her to be the Essence.

When unexpected events take Charlot...more

This is book two in the Afterglow Trilogy. I reviewed the first book, Beckoning Light, a while back and really enjoyed it. So I was thrilled to get a chance to review this one.

Charlotte has learned about her place in "another world" and is coming to grips with the fact that she is the Essence and belongs to someone else. But before she can get control of her special abilities she finds herself at war to save her new home.

This book was just as good as the first one. It deals more with her new lif...more

I completely adored Beckoning Light so naturally, I was totally excited to re-enter Energo in Perilous Light!

Book 2 picks up a year from were Beckoning Light ended. Charlotte has been trying to adjust to living a normal life without Calvin. Meanwhile, Kevin has gone off to college. But, of course, the time comes when the pair has to go back to the world of Energo.

I loved hearing Calvin's point of view in this instalment! It made me understand...more

This is a condensed version of my review of Perilous Light, which I received from the author for review. For my extended review, please click here.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: After only four pages, I was reminded of why I loved the first novel in this series so much. Alyssa is a master story weaver. Four pages in and I was absolutely captivated by this tale.

I absolutely loved this novel. Out of all the forty novels I’ve read this year, this is the second one to receive a five.

The charac...more

I absolutely adored Beckoning Light, the 1st book in The AfterGlow Trilogy, so I was more than thrilled to get the opportunity to read and review Perilous Light. If you have not read the 1st book I HIGHLY recommend you check it out ASAP. The E-copy is only 99 cents on Amazon! You cannot beat that!

This book is fast paced and packed full of the striking descriptions and captivating history that made the 1st book in this series so addicting. Alyssa Rose Ivy has an undeniable knack for making her ch...more

Let me just say, I love Liam. Really I do. Charlotte and crew have been in Charleston a year after escaping Energo, but the time has come to go back. Aiding the Resistance to overturn Blake splits the group up. It was interesting to see Kevin needing to find his inner strength. I like his growing romance with Samantha as well. After the bomb that got dropped at the end of book 1, Charlotte goes with Liam, Monty and James to find someone that will help strengthen Charlotte and help bring down Bla...more

One year after being forced to leave Energo, Charlotte Calloway is wasting away in Charleston. Like any junior in high school, Charlotte gets up and goes to school, consumes far too much coffee, and fritters away the hours with her friends. However, for those who really know Charlotte, something is wrong. That something is the knowledge that her mother is likely still alive, her soul mate Calvin has yet to come to his senses and return to her, and if Charlotte were to return to Energo, she will...more

First thoughts:
Finishing Perilous Light within a day, it turned out to be a fast and easy read for me - just like its prequel. While some conflicts were solved too casually for me and the love story still isn't exactly what I was hoping for, I enjoyed finding out more about Charlotte and the world she and her friends are pushed in.

More detailed:
Being set a year after the ending of the first book, Perilous Light starts off on a light note and introduces us to the things the char...more

It's been a year since Charlotte has been back to Energo; a year since Charlotte has been in Calvin's arms and the pain hasn't eased up since. It took every ounce of strength that she had to leave Energo and Calvin to make her way home where she could clear her mind and see if the feelings she and Calvin shared was normal or not. She also had to leave so that Blake could no longer have control over her and her new powers. Not a minute goes by that she hasn't thought of Calvin or the deception he...more

A while back had mentioned that Perilous Light was one of those novels that was highly anticipating. Once it finally arrived can happily mention is a read that devoured in about 11 hours. Needless to say in a day! It was one of those novels that hits you with an intense sensation to read through without stopping since you want to absorb it as soon as possible. The entire time in reading was held captivated which was helpe...more

Perilous Light is the second book in the Afterglow series, and it is even more addicting than the first one. The biggest mistake I made was picking this book up when I had plans within a couple hours. It was hard trying to put it down to get ready. Just like in the first book, Beckoning Light, the viewpoints alternate among Charlotte, Kevin, and sometimes Calvin. With the different events and travels during this book, the multiple viewpoints allow readers to follow them all. Each chapter is titl...more

Incredible sequel from a very promising Author! The book picks up a year after the last book and quickly dives in with plenty of adventure and romance. It is not long before they return to Energo for more adventures. Probably my favorite part is the further development of Kevin and Samantha. Also learning more about Calvin was very exciting. The story provides plenty of action, romance, and comedy. I can't wait to read the next and consider this book even better than the last!

Simply put this book is stunning. Perilous Light is amazingly great and just as amazing as the first book in The Afterglow series, if not even better.

Perilous Light, starts off almost where Beckoning Light left off, give or take a few months. Charlotte misses her love that she left in Energo even though he betrayed her and she is back home. She still has her protectors of course with her, but her older brother is off at college.

I don't want to give too much of this book away, but they end up ha...more

Still tween friendly, but super short. This series was made into three, but could easily have just been two. And I'm just a teeny bit annoyed with the ease that Charlotte feel back into letting her dude make decisions and stuff for her. Maybe she will get over that in book 3. She better.
