Even better than the first book in the series

If you liked the first book in the series you will love this one. Fast paced and exciting. Was a great vacation read for me.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed this one book one was good but this one was awesome. Calli really grew up in this one her character was astounding in this one she went from a backwords yet smart ass girl to a true heroine in this installment. Calli learned to control her abilities and emotions so much more in this book. Lorena you have left me wanting to read more in the Unaltered Series. Lorena has created a world that is truly believable. Her writing is smooth and flowing in this book.

I liked this even more than the first. I love the way Calli has embraced her powers and the world that she is now apart of. The new characters Freedom and Brand are great additions to the storyline. The story was fantastically developed and executed. I loved having Chris and Calli together again. They are a great couple. This book is awesome and I can't wait to continue the series.

This is the second book in this series. I think I liked it even better than the first book. I love the powers and the back story of where they came from and how things in this world work. I love the characters the way the story moves. I even love the romance, but I do have one complaint. The author isn't very good at writing kissing scenes. She describes the love in their eyes and their loving thoughts about each other, but then the kiss happens and there is no feeling. Saying and then they kiss ...more

Book Review: A Diamond In My Heart (The Unaltered)
By: Lorena Angell

For all fantasy book lovers this book and book series is a must read. You will fall in love with the characters and story line. The creative and intriguing writing style will keep you glued to the book series. The book is hard to put down because you will continue to want to know what happens next. Before you know it you finish the book and will get the next book in the series.

After reading the first book of this series, A Diamond in my Pocket, I had to immediately download the next three. This book was a slightly slower read for me than book one. The pace was good, but this lacked the thrill and urgency I felt with the series starter. I think part of my problem was I didn't care for Brand so it was hard to be sympathetic to his character. And while their were some advances in the story line, it seemed to take to long to get there. I'll continue the series, as I'm inv ...more

I think I liked A Diamond in My Heart even better than the first one. That rarely ever happens to me and I was pleasantly surprised. I really appreciated the maturity of Calli and her mentoring of Brand. I saw a lot of growth with both characters. I also enjoyed the new things I learned about the powers and how people can use them for good or for evil. It will be interesting to see how the author keeps the adventure going while also tying everything together. I am excited to read the third insta ...more

It was very good, my only reason for not giving it five stars is it was not long enough......
The Unaltered Series book two. Using her inherited powers, Calli Courtnae detects a confusing cosmic power in a classmate who sets his eyes on her. Maetha assigns Calli to investigate the young man and teach him of his new world. Before that can happen, she'll have to determine what his power actually is. At the same time, someone is systematically kidnapping the clan leaders who wear the magical amulet

Love this series immensely! I was really surprised when I downloaded the first book for free, and it was actually good. I was not expecting it, but it was! As soon as I finished the book I had to go and immediately buy the next one. The books are really captivating and you never want to put down the book. EVER. I can not wait until the next book is out. I am looking forward to it, and once the date that it will come out is released, I will definitely put it on my calendar!

This a fun book. Short, clean, funny insights on high school and college kids. I like that she had the time span covered in this book. I think that is a mistake a lot of ya/na writers make. All this love and danger and intrigue and betrayal all happen in a month?! Really? This spaces out the book on a timeline where some life actually happens. I thought it was fun and I liked how brand was kept plutonic instead of going for the stereotyped love triangle drama.

Purchased this one shortly after finishing the first book in this series. Interesting story, it's done in first person as is the first book. I liked the first one so much, I had to read this one as well. This book seems to do more building of the storyline. You get more development of the main characters. It's a good read, and I did enjoy the book. Can't wait to see more of this series

This book was better than the first one (thank goodness) but the writing still wasn't strong enough for me to really like it. The characters were a little better, but I still didn't connect with them as much as I would have liked. I'll still read the next one when it comes out, but this series won't go in my "read again" list.

This is the continuing saga of a group of teenage superheroes. It’s a quick read that sweeps you along. It’s only after the story ends that you wonder, “What was the point?” Apparently the point was good versus evil. It is escapism at it’s best.

I am pretty sure I like this book better than the first. I like that the characters can be friends and the author does not feel the need to add in drama unnecessarily. It was fast paced and a quick read.

This was a freebie for my nook. It wasn't horrible and it was an easy read while working out. I have to always finish the series I start so I will be reading the second plus it was only a buck

A very good book, with loveable characters and interesting plot advancements, but I must say that I like the first one a bit more. However, I really love the idea of these books.

I grew up reading Beverly Cleary and Madeleine L'Engle, loving their skillful way of weaving a story together. My own children got me hooked on the Harry Potter series, which in turn inspired me to attempt to write my own books.

Most of my book ideas come through my vivid and detailed dreams. My “Scars of Defiance” series began as a recurring dream over 17 years ago. It took me until 2005 to begin
