No longer in print, but if you've any interest in car design, this is a must-read. Funny, provocative and endlessly informative, you'll never look at cars the same way again. While Bayley's take on the bulges and nipples of the 50s is a bit Freudian for me, and he fails to connect the sheer mass of American car aesthetic to Frederick Jackson Turner and Manifest Destiny, he otherwise pretty much gets it in terms of what visual statements cars make. And why.
