This was a wonderful coming of age story. A dragon plagues a small, poor kingdom demanding that a youth between the age of 15 -20 be sacrificed every month to sate its hunger. A quite enjoyable read from Hayden Thorne, someone I've grown to learn has a real knack for stories such as these where the prose relies on narration and storytelling. Written like a fairy-tale, though more of a YA historical fantasy, this story has the feel of a oppressive radical government, a la The Hunger Games, and with a sweet, honorable, and steely young hero at the moment he reaches adulthood. Um... Depressing much? A good ending and all, but man it might as will not have been! I hated parts of it and others were alright at best. I love fantasy, but not like this. Ugh! Good thing it's so short.
