Follow Senor Sasquatch as he TRIES to ride the bus without being crowded. But despite the shouts of “Don’t squish the sasquatch”, Elephant Shark, Octo-Rhino, and the others end up doing precisely that, leading Sasquatch to explode in an impressive double page fold out spread. This colorful, cartoony book is silly and fun and will delight both kids and any adult who has dealt with a temper tantrum. A hit at story time, adults will appreciate the small touches, such as the bus ads for “Toyland: Mo...more

it is a little spicy, which is good. distinct creativity and some BIG FOLD OUT fun which would go over big with preschool kiddos and toddlers. kaboom! the animal mash-ups are clever, and children would have a blast if you asked them to tell you what the two animals are. there could be a massive giggly guessing game involved with this book.

hear that parents and caregivers? interaction. i love interactive books. or books that make that easier for me somehow.

Inventive characters from Kent Redeker, but what makes this book for me is the imaginative renderings of Bob Staake. The sasquatch's arms stretch delightfully to span the open pages and legs have to bend at odd angles to accommodate sitting. The first page depicting sasquatch sitting on a bench awaiting the bus is classic Staake, with arms and legs trying their best to achieve normalcy by bending and squashing. Staake never misses a detail and in this illustration, a little brown hat tops the ma...more

Sasquatch decides to ride the public bus provided that no one squish him. As expected, a host of fictional animals, each one rather large, get on the bus. Eventually, of course, Sasquatch is squished, the bus explodes, and Sasquatch is upset. The remedy: kisses and a group hug. This book will have limited appeal. Its strength lies in the predictive, repetitive phrase "Don't squish the Sasquatch" - you can work on predicting text with your little ones. Young children may enjoy the colorful and a...more

This is one of those "the same thing happens every second page" picture books, which I'm sure work well for small children who you want to get excited for the next page. They know what's going to happen every time a new character boards the bus. The warning: Don't Squish the Sasquatch! It's slightly weird that our lead character looks nothing like a sasquatch, however, and the motley crew boarding the bus at each stop are even more bizarre. Might work well one-on-one as a beginning bedtime book,...more

What happens when you squish a Sasquatch? Well, he goes kablooey of course! But fear not, because if you make out with him, he perks right back up.
Bright illustrations and silly critters will appeal to younger kids, though the vocabulary will be though for those who are beginning to read (sasquatch, blobule, and loch aren't exactly common words). Still, it's a silly and fun good-time read aloud and the silly characters (a space alien Loch Ness monster and an elephant shark among them) will be a...more

This delightful children’s book would be a welcome addition to any shelf. The graphics are bright and colorful and the text is fun to read aloud. Both children and adults will giggle at the inevitable “squishing” when the Sasquatch boards the city bus – along with a gaggle of big, hybrid animals, including an elephant shark, a octo-rhino, a goat-whale, and a loch-ness-monster-space-alien.

Perfect for a lesson on the letter “S” or prediction of a storyline, “Don’t Squish the Sasquatch” is a suref...more

This is an adorable story with great pictures that will delight even the most jaded picture book reader. The creatures look like things kids would come up with and the over all message is sweet. The title becomes the repeatable phrase that will have children gleefully hollering it out each time they hear this new story. If your kids are pigeon fans, they will love this book.

When Sasquatch rides a bus, he warns the driver he cannot be squished. This book made me laugh because of its off the wall humor and characters. Where else are you going to find a Loch-Ness-Monster-Space-Alien?! What happens if you squish Sasquatch? It can lead to unpleasant events, but the fellow bus riders find a great way to defuse the situation. Great read aloud

Although Sasquatch doesn't look much like Sasquatch, and you're left wondering why everything blows up when Sasquatch finally gets squished, there are some redeeming qualities. The characters are fun to look at and the growing irateness of Sasquatch is fun to watch. Such an odd book, it's cute.

Very fun book in a simplified 1950's-esque cartoon/animation style (to my eye, at least).

The title grabbed me and reading it to my 2.5 year old was loads of fun. He's been wandering the house for days giggling and yelling "Don't squish the sasquatch!" And that is all I need to recommend this book highly.

A colorful array of mixed up creatures take the bus. They enter with one instruction: Don't Squish the Sasquatch! Of course, they disregard this rule with humorous results. Great illustrations and creative creatures (i.e. Elephant Shark, Octo-Rhino etc) make this a great read aloud. Must read/see!
Jenn
All in all, this was ok. It was not horrible but I just couldn't get attached to it. The pictures are big and bold with lots of color with a very simple and short story line. Great for those kids that just can't sit still and who like funny animals. It would also make a fun read aloud.
Carrie
The most hilarious Sasquatch picture book yet! Senor Sasquatch does not like to get squished, but he does like to get smooched. See what happens when he gets "one puckered-suckered, knobby-nosed Octo-Rhino smooch", and more from his bus mates.

Illustrated by Bob Staake. I just think this is hilarious. It's a super silly tongue twister that lets the kids yell out "DON'T SQUISH THE SASQUATCH!!!" over and over during the story. I'll definitely be reading it at storytime.

Hee hee! This book is awesome. I don't want to ruin any of the jokes, but you'll love the tongue twisting and surprise turns taken on this most unusual bus ride. Thanks, Rebecca, for the recommendation!

This is just a fun and silly book. Sasquatch (who doesn't like to be squished) gets on a bus and is of course squished by several hybrid monsters (Miss Goat-Whale, Miss Loch-Ness-Monster-Space-Alien, etc.).
Wendy
Sasquatch wants to ride the bus but does not want to be squished. When a large crew of unique animals board, it is inevitable that he will be squished. His compassionate riders come to his rescue.

Based on my students' love of Robot Zombie Frankenstein, I imagine they will adore this book (extra star for this reason). Silly hybrid creatures; I'll definitely include this in our Mock Caldecott this year.

A very funny and silly picture book, complete with not only a Mr.Sasquatch (who doesn't like to be squished) but a Miss Loch-Ness-Monster-Space-Alien and a Mr. Octo-Rhino among others!

Cute story that mixes manners with humor. Whimsical illustrations compliment the text. A great potential read aloud full of inferencing. Possible mentor text for imaginative narrative.
Pamela
This book with simple repeating text is quite charming. Younger elem kids and preschoolers will enjoy the mixed-up creatures and what they do to make up for their mistake.

This is hands down the best book for storytime ever! It is a must-buy for any school library.
I have even created a whole genre lesson plan about legends for 2-3graders.

Wow. That was so weird that it was pretty funny. Certainly not what I expected. But I did chuckle.

The pictures started to make me think Yo-Gabba-Gabba--which made me CRINGE!
Dolores
In the tradition of "Don't Let the Pigeon..." this is another great storytime read aloud. Kids will enjoy shouting out the catch-phrase and the acid-trip pictures and characters.

Loved the hybrid characters, especially Miss Elephant Shark and Mr.Octo-Rhino. I really hope they make a stuffed Mr. Blobule someday!! - Reviewed by Wendy.
Jean-Marie
Fun read aloud with your favorite little monster. They can guess the monster mix for each bus passenger. And you can give them fun monster kisses at the end!

This would be so great in storytime or as a flannel board! I love the illustrations, and even though the book is repetitive, it's always got a funny twist.
