Not wanting to give himself away, he impersonates a pack mate who didn’t show for his maintenance job (probably hung over, per Jared) and then he see Keri…and walks right by his mate, oblivious.

Keri knows instantly that Jared is her mate and can’t understand how he’s physically able to walk right by her and not say or do anything. Her wolf is going crazy needing to be around him, smell him, tumble with him. Add to this, she’s on the ship to help her best friend deal with the responsibility of running the cruise. She’s the troubleshooter, which basically comes down to her talking her friend off the edge of a cliff a time or two. Finally, in wolf form, Jared comes across and Keri and the light bulb goes off. It’s explained why Jared’s wolf knew immediately that Keri was his and human Jared didn’t, but it doesn’t matter now. Both wolf and human are on board and the mates have found each other.

This is one of the charming parts of this series for me – I love that the mating happens first and everything else just works itself out. Jared and Keri aren’t too concerned with knowing every little detail about each other, or even when they each suspect the other of being the jewel thief who’s being tracked on the ship. Nope – while they want to know the truth, they’re each more concerned with protecting the other person first, and then finding out all the details later. They were fun together, super sexy and delightful to read about. Of the two leads, Jared won me over most. There’s just something about his easy going, fun personality that made him very easy to like. He has an interesting past, an even more interesting family and I’d have loved to have learned more about his life both pre-Keri and with her.

As I mentioned above, there is a small suspense storyline that has the hero and heroine trying to figure out who is stealing jewels from the passengers. It’s a thread that goes through much of the story but it never felt front and center and I never really cared about that story. I was enjoying the play between Jared and Keri too much that all the supporting people and storylines fell to the side.

This latest installment to the Granite Lake Wolves series reads great as a standalone and I had fun getting to know Jared and Keri. These two wolves are playful and fun and it’s hard to resist Jared, who is such a sexy shifter!(less)

I pre-ordered this one, but for a number of reasons I never got around to read it until now. And I am glad I read it.

It was nice to re-visit the Granite Lake wolves, and get another insight into the world that Ms Arend has created. Unlike the previous books, which took place in and around Haines (mostly), this book took place at a cruise ship. Which has its problems. I loved how the demands from the passengers and the unexpected problems affected Jared's and Keri's relationship.

I’ve read only one other Vivian Arend book, and I had a great time with it. So I was more than happy to sit back and relax while reading this one. Unfortunately, true relaxation didn’t come until the second half of the book.

After some teasing and talk about upcoming work, Jared notices a couple of goons lumbering his way, so on the run it is. He ends up taking refuge on board one of the Arctic Wolf Cruise Lines ships that is ready to head out on a ten-day cruise. Thinking he can get through a couple of days and then “forget” to re-board at a port along the way, Jared poses as one of his pack’s members who missed the boat. A little honest work never hurt anyone.

As troubleshooter on this cruise, Keri is helping her friend Tessa who’s managing her first trip for the tour line. Soothing anxious nerves soon takes a backseat to the man who Keri knows is her mate. Trying to figure out why he ignores her every time they run into each other turns into trying to keep him out of jail when she discovers passengers’ missing property in his room. Keri’s not about to lose the only man on the planet meant for her. I love the scene where she goes into Jared’s room and ends up rolling around on his bed and in his sheets to wrap herself in his scent, while she’s trying to figure the guy out.

When Jared finally realizes Keri is his mate, this is where the book gets much more interesting. Of course, all the lovemaking has a little to do with that. They can’t keep their hands off each other. While the comedy of errors of mistaken identity continues in the mystery of thefts onboard, Jared is recognized by a royal couple, and, thus, his secrets begin to come out. And Keri is taken off guard by one of those secrets, the other she neatly tosses aside with hardly any reaction at all, and I actually think it should have been the other way around.

The beginning of the book is a tad slow, and there are a few short scenes that just don’t work for me. However, once everything heats up with Jared and Keri and their trying to discover who’s behind the thefts, the story begins to move at a much better pace. I do feel I was at a little bit of a disadvantage not having read the previous four books in the series, but only with regard to the beginning when the Granite Lake wolves are together. I think their interaction here would have gone over better if I’d met them before. But once they’re out of the picture, that feeling dissipates.

I do like the concept of a shifter-only cruise where shifters of all kinds can run around aboard ship in either human or animal form. There are a couple of scenes that are fun and make the idea come off the page quite well. I think another book with this cruise as a backdrop and featuring two or three couples, along with all the antics that could go on in this environment, would be a lot of fun. It’s just a very refreshing concept.

All in all, I like the characters in this book. They’re charming and fun. I also now want to read the first four books in the series, because I do love the shifter aspect of the story, and I wish there’d been a little more shifting throughout, whether it’s Jared and Keri or any of the many others onboard. I think I just might end up loving a lot of these Granite Lake wolves.

This is the first book I've read of this series although they have been on my "to read" list for quite some time. While I may have recognized some of the other characters if I had read the rest of the series first, I didn't feel I was lost or missing out on anything by having read this one first. I absolutely adore Arend's Wolfie books and this one is yet another great addition to the series.

It's a fun story full of misunderstandings, sexual tension and sizzling hot romance.

Usually I don't like romances that are full of misunderstandings (they often make me cringe and want to kick the characters), but Arend manages to pull it off in a way that I enjoyed. It didn't feel forced and it never got to a point that it started to annoy me. Instead it drove the story forward in a natural way.

I love that these shorter books are so fun and light and are so easy to get into. I loved the idea of a cruise ship for just shifters, and both Keri and Jared were such fun characters!

E: It was great getting to see the Granite Lake wolves again if only for a few minutes. I liked the setup with Jared running onto the cruise ship and only much later discovering that his temporary hiding spot turned into something much longer. I think the mental arguments that both Jared and Keri told themselves was probably my favorite part of the novella.

MinnChica: I loved that we were left a little in the dark about Jared. I liked finding out as Keri did about his family and his job within the pack and overall wolf culture. It was fun to watch that unfold at the same time as his relationship with Keri developed. I also liked the twist with Jared and his sense of smell, or lack there of. I thought it was a great and neat little twist. One of the things I love about Arend and the Granite Lake series is that she is kinda known for putting these little twists in her story. I still have a super soft spot for Robyn, the deaf Alpha from book one. She’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

E: Oh my goodness, Jared certainly had a lot underneath his playboy exterior. I really enjoyed how we learned what Jared’s “huge problem” was and I felt poor Keri’s shock when she discovered who his family really was. I also liked how they were both determined to support and protect their mate from an issue involving onboard ship security. It reminded me a little bit of the story, A Gift of the Magi, only without the bittersweet ending. I do really like how the wolves aren’t all powerful, perfect creatures but suffer from some of the same permanent ailments or disabilities that you would see in a normal population. It makes the characters and world that much more approachable in my opinion.

MinnChica: Oh definitely, I couldn’t agree with you more. I liked the little mini-suspense plot of who the cruise thief was as well. I thought it played nicely into the story, and was a good chance for conflict between Jared and Keri’s relationship, as well as overall to the story. I loved that they both tried to cover for the other, and eventually were able to prove just who was behind it all. It was a quick and well-done addition to the novella. I have to admit though, I really hope we get to see more of these all shifter cruises, I loved how fun and wild and free everyone was onboard the ship!!

E: I really only have one thing to say. I know Ms Arend finished the main arc for her Granite Lake wolves and she really doesn’t have to go back there but she did mention other shifter breeds and this cruiseline/ship so reading a (or several) novels set on cruise ships would be wonderful. Thinking back on the one I went on and stories I have heard about others… oh the fun that could be had *grin*. Anyways back to this novella, the mini-suspense was needed to ground the story and take it from all hormone based into something much more rounded.

MinnChica: All in all this was another knockout wolfie novella from Arend. There was plenty of sexual tension and rocking good times between Jared and Keri. The suspense plot and cruise ship theme were fun and engaging and kept the story moving at a quick pace that made the novella seem to fly by. This series continues to remain one of my favorite novella PNR series.
I give Wolf Line a B

E: This was a fun entertaining read for me. I never knew what was going to happen next in the continuing hijinks. The cruise director and her need to continually move, Jared’s lack of initial movement regarding Keri’s attraction, Keri’s attempts to avoid Jared, not to mention the rest of the support crew and passengers kept me laughing. I enjoyed the glimpse into the less life in danger side of the shifter world.

I've read every story in the Granite Lake Wolves series at least twice, some three times. To say I'm a fan is an understatement. Wolf Line is the newest story in the series, and it's a little different than the others-- Jared isn't an alpha, and he has a few faults, but he's a likeable guy. He just didn't appeal to me as much as the other guys in the series. Keri, the story's heroine, is great, and in the end they fit together amazingly. Keri Smith is working on the cruise ship as a favor to her friend Tessa. When Jared launches himself onto the ship and stumbles past her, she is overwhelmed by his scent and is almost positive she’s met her mate. Bad timing would be an understatement and she plans on fighting the mating until the cruise is over. She does not want to let Tessa down and acknowledging the mating would literally put her out of commission for the duration.

When circumstances throw them together, they can’t fight the mating any longer. But when passengers start reporting that items have been stolen from their rooms and it appears that Jared is the thief, they will have to work together quickly to get to the bottom of the mystery and reveal the real offender.

Vivian Arend has fast become a favorite author of mine. When Mandi offered me Wolf Line and I realized it was book 5, I quickly snatched up books 1-4 and did a marathon read and I’m so glad that I did. It was great to get to know the major characters and get a good feel of the Granite Lake Wolves before jumping into book 5.

I really enjoyed the idea of a shifter only cruise. Passengers can wander around in their animal form freely without fear of discovery, able to just enjoy themselves in a safe environment. When Jared boards the ship, he’s mistaken for a fellow pack mate named Mark and he goes with it in order get away from the men trying to catch him. When the ship begins to leave the dock and he’s stuck on board, he continues with the ruse, taking on the duties as if he had been hired for the job himself.

Jared has a couple of secrets and as this is a short story, it would be too spoilerish to reveal either of them but I will say that one of them causes Keri a lot of grief. Once she realizes that Jared/Mark is her mate, she is overwhelmed with need to act on the mating and get busy with him ASAP. However, every time she sees him around the ship and he politely ignores her, she becomes even more confused and frustrated. At one point, she resorts to sneaking into his room when she knows he’s not there, just to roll around in his bed and wrap his scent around her.

The intrigue provided by the plot of the thefts on the ship is woven in a way that keeps you guessing. The case of mistaken identity takes on an even bigger role when Jared/Mark is recognized by a prominent family on board the ship who are more than happy to play along with the ruse when they realize that Jared has found his mate.

While I’m not a big fan of the novella, I’m always impressed when an author can pull off a story that grabs me right away, provides intrigue and suspense, gives me a hero and heroine who really complement each other well and is able to do it in only 100 or so pages. In this Ms. Arend succeeds. In addition, there is quite a bit of humor in this story and for me that is always a plus!

I have enjoyed this whole series so far, and this is no exception.

Though the other stories have all been about those high in the pack structure or related to them, Jared and Keri are both middle of the pack type wolves which is nice.

Light and warm, her Granite Lake Wolves always keep me coming back for more.

In this installment, we meet Jared and Keri. Keri is helping her friend run a shifter-exclusive cruise as her 'troubleshooter'. Jared has escaped his recent lover's brothers by pretending to be a member of the crew on the same cruise ship. Two destined mates locked together on a 10 day cruise. What do you think is going to happen?

From the moment Keri meets Jared, she knows he's her mate, but he seems to have no inkling to indicate he has noticed the same. So, she tries her hardest to avoid him. After all, the first mate of the captain can't be caught banging one of the other workers, right? Right. So, what's a girl to do?

What I liked about Keri is she easily accepted the changes that suddenly jumped up in her life. Sure, she had originally had her eyes set on someone else for the duration of the cruise, but the moment she caught a whiff of her mate, she knew no other man would do. Then came the conundrum of why he seemed to be unaffected by her. Instead of going after him like a crazed wolf in heat, she tried to hold herself back. There was plenty of time to hunt him down after the cruise. Fortunately, that's not how fate decided to play it. She was a very logical character. Even when certain things seemed pitted against them, she wasn't the quickest to judge and jump to conclusions. She reasoned it out, and handled it in a way that showed how well she handled problems.

Once Jared and Keri let their romance take hold, it was super sweet. They both completely embraced their connection as well as had fun with it. There was no fighting it. There was no drama. It was pure acceptance and complete surrender. I really wished it could have been so much steamy air than it was, but their coupling was sweet and fit just right with who they were individually and as a couple. Add that to the mentally telling each other how much they want them and their inability to keep their hands off each other, and you have a very deep and animalistic romance. Just what I always wanted. *grin* Delish!

Jared was such a sweetheart. When he realized that he hadn't figured out Keri was his mate from the beginning, he began apologizing to her in hopes that she hadn't thought he was being a jerk for ignoring their connection. Then, in animal fashion, wasted no time in claiming what was rightfully his. Afterwards, he was nothing but sweet. There wasn't a bad bone in his body. Even though he didn't have to work, he still did because otherwise the ship would have been shorthanded. He tried his best to calmly resolve the sticky situation. He also gently introduced Keri to his life. He was considerate and caring and gentle, but rough and bad when he had to be. It was a great combination that had me smiling the whole time.

Seriously, these wolves make me want to run away to the Alaskan wilderness to find me one of my own. Another nice book about these lovely shifters.(less)

The last thing Granite Lake wolf-shifter Jared wants is get a job-job, especially one that doesn’t involve the kind of sweating and noises from frolicking with a female but it may be time. His wolf-anizing ways have caught up to him in the form of a couple of thugs and Jared has to hide quickly (really not his fault). A cruise ship is waiting in the harbor with all its hiding spots and crowds. It has to be kismet that they’re expecting a packmate to check in as a worker and no one questions his sudden appearance.

Keri is on board the Arctic Cruise Line to help support her friend Tessa’s maiden voyage as cruise director. When she comes across new hire “Mark,” one deep sniff tells her he’s her mate. She can’t figure out why she rates a wink instead of being jumped on the closest horizontal surface though. Maybe he’s being gentlemanly? It takes Jared’s wolf to finally turn the light bulb on and tell him – hey, Keri’s his mate!

Jared and Keri’s road to happiness is bound to be hazardous since the beginning was bumpy. It’s romance 101. Jared’s got a lot of ‘splainin’ to do to Keri, starting with his real name which was a bigger issue than I thought. Jared has depth and he’s very cute telling things to Keri while she’s taking it all in stride. Keri’s had longer to get used to the idea of Jared as her mate and while she mainly just wants to have sex like a madwoman for a while, she’s okay with learning to accept the good with the bad in him. The little side story/crime caper was funny and was a good way to advance the romance and Jared’s need to spill his secrets early.

Because of the length of the story (long novella), there isn’t a lot of space for happy mating activity, but there’s still some simmering smexy times between the couple. Arend writes fan-yourself hotness without being too graphic and the characters are always emotionally engaged. Freshly mated couples are always very…energetic. :)

The Granite Lake pack hierarchy had its mating stories, so any new books are looks at other wolves that probably have appeared someplace and are getting their happily-ever-afters. If this book is any indication, it’s not necessary to read the original core books to enjoy the new. The alphas and omegas show up and there’s a little scene with them that’s a tease about Jared. It was a nice reminder about pack life then and again later in the book. I admit I miss being on land and roaming with the wolves there, but the cruise ship idea was original and a true change of pace.

Both characters were likeable, especially rascally Jared. I don’t usually find myself liking players but there was something endearing about him that made me smile. Once he figured out Keri was his mate, he was so joyful that I had this image of a squirming puppy. Keri was quiet compared to him, she reminded me of a wolf stalking her pretty which was what she was trying to avoid. She wasn’t in any way needy though, which won her big points with me.

My Summary: This is a little departure in tone from the original four Granite Lake books, for sure. It’s still great meeting up with the pack but now it’s taking the members in new directions, doing a little exploring and coming across other shifters and packs. The cruise ship idea was a lot of fun (try racing down the shuffleboard deck with bubbles on it), I liked the little whodunit and as always, the mating of the shifter couple is intense and sexy.

This was such a fun book. There wasn’t any intrigue to get over. It was just plain fun from beginning to end. Now I need to go back and grab the first four books in this series after being hooked right away! But don’t let that fool you, you don’t need to have read the books in the series to understand and enjoy this one. You will just want to read them if they are as good as this one is!

Also one of his rules is no attached women and there is a big man who seems to be very territorial over the lady. His wolf doesn’t seem to care, but Jared can’t figure out why. Can he ignore his wolf, stick to his rules and remain incognito? Or will it all go belly up? Throw in some misunderstandings and you’ll end up with a disaster waiting to happen!

I love this series so much I was thrilled to be asked to review the latest addition. I had come across Jared in Erick’s book (Wolf Games....also awesome!) and thought he was a bit of playboy. That impression was reaffirmed by the rest of the pack at the start of the book, but I didn’t get that impression for long. He meets Keri relatively near the start of the tale and then he behaved like a sweetie. He didn’t want to go near her (he doesn’t “poach”) but her strange reactions whenever he is near her make him think her assumed boyfriend is abusive. After this he just wants to protect her...awwww! When he FINALLY realises they are mates, he just oozes seduction, charm and concern; basically he is an absolute sweetheart! I loved him. There is a scene where some pups are having fun after some soap gets poured on the bowling lanes which, as maintenance, it is his job to sort. He allows them to carry on, shows them how to get it more slippery and just cleans it later. He’s adorable!

Keri is pretty great as a character! She knows that Jared is her mate, doesn’t try and fight it, just tries to postpone it because she doesn’t want to let down her friend. Once the “misunderstandings” start, I love her reaction to it all, how she never thinks about trying to get out of the mating and just wants to protect him. They are such a lovely couple!

There is quite a bit of sex in this one, and it’s steamy, but it doesn’t overpower the tale and is simply there to compliment the story rather than overtake it. I love the humour, love and sex in tale. It’s a fantastic addition to a series I love. I also enjoyed seeing some of the previous tales characters at the beginning.

A fantastic novella complete with plenty of charm, sex and romance. I recommend it to all fans of shifter romance’s everywhere. (less)

I love Vivian Arend's Granite Lake Wolves and I'd been looking forward to Jared's story since we first met him. As the majority of Wolf Line is set on a cruise ship we don't get to see quite as much of the rest of the pack as we're used to and I did find myself missing the pack banter a little. Even without that I thoroughly enjoyed Wolf Line though, it actually made a nice change to have such a different setting for the story and it was a good way of bringing some new characters into the series. If you've enjoyed the earlier books in this series then you're definitely going to love this one just as much.

Jared is fab, he is very laid back and easy going but has always been a bit of a player when it comes to women. He isn't in a rush to find his mate but the moment he realises that he's found her he starts to realise what he has been missing all these years. Keri was great too, she is working hard to make sure everything runs smoothly to keep the pressure off her best friend. As much as she wants to act on her attraction to Jared she is worried about letting her friend down, she doesn't just abandon her responsibilities no matter how tempted she is to do so. I'm not always a fan of insta-love but I don't mind it so much in paranormal romances and it always works well in this series. There is something I find very appealing about the mating bond between these wolves! The physical connection between Jared and Keri is intense but I really enjoyed seeing them get to know each other too. There are a couple of hilarious misunderstandings between them but I loved the fact that even when they both thought that the other was up to no good their first instincts were to protect their mate and find a way to fix the mess they thought they'd got themselves into.

If you haven't discovered the Granite Lake Wolves yet then this is a series I'd highly recommend for when you're looking for a fun and hot read full of sexy shifters. I have loved all of the stories so far and can't wait to read the next one. I do think you could pick this book up even if you haven't read the rest of the series but I'm sure once you've tried this one you'll be going back to the beginning and working your way through the rest!(less)

This was cute. I loved the banter & interaction between Keri & Jared. I have only read book 1, so I will be going back to read 2-4.

I wish it had been a little longer. I know, it's always my biggest complaint about novellas. But I felt like there was so much more development that could have taken place, and the ending could have been more satisfying ratger than a bit abrupt.

The setting and main characters vary, but the constants...great romance, wonderfully portrayed characters and an interesting, entertaining storyline. Jared is fantastic and Keri is as good or better.
