Recommends it for: Pretty near anyone. Don't think kids or YA would be interested due to financial theme.
Shelves: suspense, thriller
I had no idea what a forensic accountant was until reading this novel. (Such an accountant tracks down missing money in cases of financial wrong-doing.) I certainly had no idea that a story about a forensic accountant could be exciting, suspenseful, and scary.

Forensic accountant Katarina (Kat) Carter is called in when five billion dollars goes missing from a Canadian corporation mining diamonds. She can't figure out why they called her. She's the least important investigator of her kind in town,

Goodreads Author, Colleen Cross introduces readers to a wonderful new protagonist, Katerina Carter. The forensic account slightly reminds me of Kinsey Millhone. Kat is broke, living in her office, and her ex-boyfriend is in her life more than she wants him to be. She finally has a case. Liberty Diamond Mines’ CFO has disappeared along with $5 Billion dollars. She stumbles on a diamond laundering scheme at one of Liberty’s mines, before a major stock holder is murdered and a former geologist refu ...more

I won this book via goodreads from firstreads in a giveaway, and am so glad I was picked as a winner! I love thrillers and just came out of a book called Black Fridays that had to do with stock broker embezzlement and a heartfelt story behind it, and I have to say although I loved both books Exit Strategy went the extra mile with details on money laundering! Coleen Cross has a niche for writing and can't wait to read more of this fantastic writing style. I am a person with many questions and go ...more

This was an enjoyable financial thriller with a clever plot, a heroine you could really root for and some nice twists and turns. The real bonus, however, was the information you pick up on margin calls, conflict diamonds and the corporate governance process of listed companies in general. The author displays the kind of comfort in these areas you only get from either being an industry insider or through in depth research. Both a thrilling and educational read, therefore and am looking forward to ...more

I didn’t think it could happen but, by the time I finished reading EXIT STATEGY, I felt I understood the world of money laundering, big corporations and the role of forensic accountants in following the money. Five stars for EXIT STRATEGY and I’m looking forward to the next Kat Carter adventure.

Seriously good story. Original protagonist & fun international plot.

The first in the Katerina Carter series, Cross introduces us to forensic accountant Katerina Carter, who goes above and beyond to solve what turns into international crimes.

Thought not be to be smart enough to uncover the truth, Carter is hired by Liberty Diamond Mines to find five billion dollars that went missing, along with Paul Bryant, the company’s Chief Financial Officer. Unfortunately for the criminals, Carter is not as stupid as they believed her to be.

I received a free copy of this book through Goodreads First Giveaways and although it wasn't exactly what I expected I'm glad I had the chance to read it.
The story is about Kat Carter a forensic accountant who is hired by Liberty Diamond Mines to uncover an embezzlement of 5 billion dollars and trace their whereabouts as well as the company's CFO that went missing with the money.Although the story might seem simple enough it really is not. There are many twists when you least expect them that wi

Brief synopsis of what this book is about: Diamond Laundering and a detective who is on a mission to figure out what really happened and where the money laundering went, even though everyone involved starts getting killed off. When she realizes that they are after her, she doesn't stop her investigation. When she is fired from the investigation, she doesn't stop. She doesn't stop until the case is solved (GO GIRL!).

That being said, it was a clever story and I loved the empowering female charact
I really enjoyed this book! I wouldn't have thought a book about financial crime could be so entertaining but the main character, Kat Carter, is incredibly likeable and I couldn't help but cheer her on as she worked her way out of the predicaments she stumbled into. Most of the reading I do is before bedtime and I found there was just enough suspense to keep me turning the pages but not so much that it kept me awake at night. I'm looking forward to reading more from Colleen Cross in the future!
A forensic accountant hired by a mining company in Vancouver finds some irregularities that get her fired and attacked. She decides to pursue the trail and finds herself caught up in stock fraud, laundering of dirty conflict diamonds and a notorious arms dealer.
Unique characters, original premise, interesting story and good execution. Highly recommend Coleen Cross's "Exit Strategy". More good news; it's the first of a series. I'll be downloading the next "Game Theory" tonight.

What a nice change....fraud big time. Murder, intrigue. Nicely drawn characters and action. Enjoyed this first in the series and just downloaded the next.
Full recommend. Good Read.

This book has three of my favorite things in fiction: excitement, intelligence, and a strong female heroine! Looking forward to Katerina Carter's next adventure!
It seemed like a good story in the beginning but got more and more unrealistic. I'm surprised at all the praise.
