Realistic and heartfelt, these three short stories are no nonsense coming of age tales. The author relates the traumas and triumphs that dominate the lives of adolescent girls. Are my breasts large enough? What does getting my period for the first time mean? What does falling in love mean? Well-done and down to earth.

I have mixed feelings about this book. My initial thought was, "Was I that obnoxious when I was 12?"
Probably. And I just don't feel like acknowledging it, because I've grown and changed since then.
I am always wary of people who generalize generations, or say that "this is something that everyone goes through," because I don't believe that. There are so many differences between people. I was never "boy crazy," for one. I figured out why a few years later, if you get what I'm saying. I don't care...more

Beautifully constructed and powerful in their deceptive simplicity, these stories are timeless and real. They transported me back to the joys and agonies of adolescence. I loved them as a sweet reminder but I'll also recommend them to my 12-yr-old niece. They will surely resonate with girls her age. In fact, in this new generation that is exposed to "edgy" everything, I think a book like this an important reminder that something like getting your period for the first time carries some significan...more
