This review contains minor spoilers for book one, Slide.
Impostor is an electrifying sequel to an excellently crafted murder mystery. While I had some problems with this sequel, I still caught myself enjoying the story.
I'll go ahead and dive straight into some parts I had issues with in Impostor. The storyline wasn't as intriguing as the sequel, Slide, and I caught myself wondering why some bits of the book were thrown in. The beginning was confusing, but luckily, the problem of another "slider...more

I have to say I really liked this book more than I liked the first one is series "Slide". I enjoyed Slide but this book has so much more to it. I started Impostor and finished it all in one day. In this novel the author introduces you to a few new characters. They become a good part in this story. She also mends broken friendships, start new relationships and reveal major secrets.
At some point when the author introduces you to a certain new character, she had me confused as to believing the ob...more
Vee is back again, and into more entertaining trouble. It’s about six months after Zane’s death and all the hardships from the first book. She starts to get weird feelings and wakes up in places, but she doesn't remember how she got there. She fears somebody might be sliding into her and taking over. When she wakes up and she's alone, and scotch is hurt, possibly dead she knows things are getting serious. She doesn't remember if he fell or if the person who took her over may have pushed him. Now...more

Let me talk about things one by one. First, the cover of the book. I never realized pink, as a color, could look so mysterious and full of suspense. And the girl on the cover (who doesn't fit my visualization of Vee at all lol) also appears paranormal-ish, just like the storyline.
Throughout the whole story, I liked Vee, a lot. I don't know much about her character as I haven't read book 1, but still the author is very much successful in portraying Vee in this book, so...more

After enjoying book 1 so much I was pleasantly surprised to see there was a sequel. I’d strongly recommend reading Slide prior reading Imposter to get a better understanding of all the characters.
Where Slide was enjoyable and intriguing Imposter is definitely darker. The story is more complex and all of the characters have grown. Vee’s little sister is more believable and likeable, redeeming herself from the previous story.

“Well, that’s what it is, isn’t it? The capacity to literally walk in someone else’s shoes?”
I’ve heard that some series get better as the books go on, and this seems to be a case in point. In Impostor, Vee Bell isn’t having it any easier with life. If anything, it’s become more difficult as nightmares of Zane’s - her short time boyfriend - death plague her as she sleeps. She also begins to experience times when it’s almost as if someone is sliding into her, rather than the other way around. When...more

Goodreads synopsis: Be afraid of your shadow…Vee Bell has witnessed murder. She nearly died trying to track down the killer, all because of her secret condition. She’d tell her best friend Rollins but lately he seems more interested in his colleague Anna than her. Maybe she should confide in her long-lost aunt who’s turned up out of the blue? All of a sudden life is happening in reverse: Vee is waking up in weird places not knowing what she’s done. The only thing she’s sure of is that someone is...more
Imposter tells the story of Vee Bell, a teenager with the ability to slide into anothers mind and to have physical control over them. A sequel to 'Slide', this book welcomes you into the Bell family right from the beginning.

When I found out that Slide had a sequel, I was so excited - I really wanted to see more of Vee and Rollins and all the other characters. Impostor did not disappoint me. As gripping as Slide was, Impostor was even more so. While I was able to figure out the mystery in Slide this one was a mystery for me up until the reveal! I liked this book and thought it was pretty fast paced and it definitely kept me guessing but it probably won't be on my Top Ten of 2013.
Vee can "slide" into other people's minds. As far as she knows, she is the only person who can do this. Until one day, she has a strange experience and she discovers that someone may be sliding into her mind.
After seeing her former best friend, Samantha, hurt by the same boy her assaulted her the year before, Vee comes up with a plan. However, it is a plan t...more

WHOO. Yet another book read all in one go! Save the first 10 pages or so I mean; I may have been not as enthusiastic to read this sequel in the beginning as I was back when I read Slide last year, but hey, that was inevitable with a year's long wait though, wasn't it?
Anywho, I'd like to start off by saying that I'm thoroughly disappointed in not having figured out the mystery long ahead the way I had with the the first book (funny, since that should've ruined the suspense part...more

This book definitely got better as it progressed. Vee is trying to figure out who is getting into her head and her body, as she has been waking up driving and in the rain at her mother's gravesite. She comes to the conclusion that someone else knows how to "slide" and is sliding into her. She thinks this person is out to kill her as she could've been killed when she woke up driving her father's car into a pole.

This one was a bit disappointing. Because I really, really liked Slide, but I thought it made a perfectly fine standalone; any sequel would be completely unnecessary. To be fair, this is more of a companion than a sequel; it takes place in the same continuity and focuses on the same characters, but it in no way continues Slide's plot. Even so, after the phenomenal Slide, this was a bit of a disappointment.

First of all, is this even the correct way to spell Impostor? I've seen it spelled this way, but I've seen it spelled 'Imposter' more than I had 'Impostor'. Weird. Anyway, it's not that I HAD to read this. I liked the first one, but I couldn't really remember what happened in it. I do read a lot of things so that seems to be a problem after I haven't read a book for a while, but I really didn't remember much of anything, so it's not like the book stuck with me when I had read it. But when I foun...more
Impostor is a fabulous follow-up to Slide. It continues to develop some of the characters that you already know and love, while also adding some new characters to the story. The plot included a murder mystery that had many twists. I was unable to guess who the killer was until it was revealed. The story is engaging, with good writing.

While Slide (book one in this series) was definitely a mystery -- with main character Vee convinced that mysterious "suicides" at her school are actually murders and trying to solve the crimes by sliding into the consciousness of the suspects, Impostor starts out as more of a creepy suspense story. When Vee finds herself at the side of a road in her father's wrecked car with no memory of how she got there, she's convinced that there's another "Slider" out there -- someone who is sliding into Vee...more

Jill Hathaway’s Impostor is a stunning sequel that entertains the reader with this unique murder mystery. I absolutely loved Slide and couldn’t wait to dive into Impostor. Hathaway brings back Vee, who has a special ability to momentarily slide into a person’s state of mind, allowing her to control the person and their actions. The concept is unique, filling the pages with psychological thrills. Once again Hathaway delivers.

I went into Impostor having super high hopes, and it did not disappoint. While the beginning is a bit slow, and it took me awhile to get into the book, after the first 70 pages or so, I was completely involved in the story. I had to know what was going on and who was guilty. The character development was okay, but not all of the characters evolved. However, the mystery was top notch, and Hathaway kept me guessing until the very end.

It's funny, I remember lovingthe first book in this series when I read the ARC last year, but when I started thinking about it, all I could remember was the ending. And not the ending with Zane but, um, only Rollins. I have tunnel-vision when it comes to that guy, I guess. I do so adore the best friend turned love interest, though, so you can't fault me for it.
Needless to say, I had to do a quick re-read of Slideto catch myself up. Only, you know what? I didn't....I only thought I needed to. (Th...more

Question for all you in the know...Was this only a two-part series or will there be another book? Just curious because this totally has the feeling of a last book in a series and I didn't want to get my hopes up that there will be another book. After what happened in this book, I can't say that there is another storyline that would make sense to me for Vee, Rollins, and Mattie. Perhaps we could have a book that was told by Mattie and what it'...more

I remember really enjoying Slide when I read it a while ago, but coming back to read Impostor, my initial reaction was: oh, okay - onto the next book, then. The writing was good, the characters solid and consistent, and the story much more complicated. The romance between Vee and Rollins, though, was pretty disappointing (we never really do see how it all works out with Anna), and I couldn't really connect with any of the characters. They weren't dull, but they all felt distant. It does give you...more

Impostor is a good follow-up to Slide in which Vee is a girl who can "slide" into another individual by touching an object they left an emotional imprint on. The two aspects I felt were strongest in Impostor, Vee as a character and the author's writing of relationships, were the strength once again. Vee feels very authentic to me and so does her relationship with Rollins. I love the two of them together and wouldn't mind a short story featuring Rollins POV. There were a number of mysterious aspe...more
Overall, this book was pretty good but I still can't get behind main character Vee (after feeling the same way in the first book). Still, the premise is great and the story is better/more complex in this one versus SLIDE. Plus Rollins is a great, great character.

Are you serious? Bloody hell, after that review I gave to Slide, I didn't think I'd want to read the sequel. Guess Slide was meant more of a set up, and Imposter is where we get down to business.
