It was ironic that this happened to me; I was never a night person at heart. So you can see right off the bat why a vampire was the very last thing I would have chosen to be.

Anja Evans wakes up in the morgue with a hell of a hangover. It takes almost eating her best friend before she figures out... she's a vampire. When a dark and dangerous vampire shows up at her door ask

There was a truckload of good recommendations and reviews to support this book. I have gotten over 50% and I can say with absolute certainly that this novel doesn't cater to my view of paranormal, supernatural or undead action romance. Why, you ask? Well I am more than delighted to explain... It pertains to our leading lady Anja... and how should I put this????Oh yes..
Translation: bitches be crazy. Omg dying XD

There are some females in this world that can simply be described with one word - embarrassing. I am talking about those types of
Meet Anja Evans, a nerdy college student going to school studying voice. The story starts off with her waking up in the morgue.

Meet Bishop, vampire cop upholding the laws of the Order. He sees everything as black and white, his world is turned upside down when he tracks down Anja from the hospital asking for her license and registration.

An interesting world where vampires need legal papers or be chipped, without either of those the Order will prosecute and execute on site. Anja is a clumsy bumbl

A very nice UF dedicated to the Chicagoland fans. Imagine Merry without a guide and a house to take her in. My lower rating is linked to my dislike of stories divided into chunks (aka books).

Nothing is resolved here, and the lack of an actual plot didn't help. (Or at least of a plot with more meat in it than "oh I am a vamp. What shall I do next?)(view spoiler)
It all started when she woke up with a sheet over her face, dressed in Norse clothing and no memory of how any of it happened.
Arguh, just her waking up in the morgue had me chewing the old finger nails. Holy craptastic nightmares. That was all my slam in the face welcome to the book first chapter. The book did not stop there, it lightened up a bit. Anja, our poor lost MC is having a hard time dealing with the how and whys she was thought to be dead. She doesn't remember a thing. She's feeling a

A cute, mostly forgettable PNR. Being a self-published book (the copy I read, anyway), it was surprisingly more polished than I expected, though the author did seem to have a fetish for ellipses. Those three little dots were everywhere! To the point where they began to lose all meaning. There's very little plot beyond the "I'm a vampire! Oh no, now what do I do?" variety, with the obligatory stand-offish alpha male who the heroine desires and who clearly wants to be with the heroine, but remains ...more

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wake Me When the Sun Goes Down (Forged Bloodlines #1) was one of the better things I read in the last few months, it had the confused but competent heroine who is learning her place in her new life, a cast of characters that become more 3-D as it progresses and a great plot. The fact that this book is not one of the top sellers in PNR/UF just shows that marketing is everything since this is much better than many of the better se
I like vampires... when they're done well, and too many of the ones out there aren't, especially when it comes to romance. This book was an exception, I love the reluctant vampire Anja and her relationship with the vampire cop Bishop. Her spunky roommate Bridget helped make this a fun read, and I really liked the idea of the organization that enforces the vampire laws. Now I want to see what happens next!
Loved it, quick paced and action pact, this was a great beginning to a series I'll most definitely be continuing. I like the world she set up and we actually just got a small peek of it. I thought author set this up brilliantly to continue.
I stayed up practically all night reading this... there were other contributing factors to my being up so late but this book got me through it.

Song Choice: Partially because this my newest obsession but also because it works - "All I Wanted" Kodaline, "One and Only" by Adele

First thoughts: This was really, the first in a series. What do I mean by that? I mean don't go into this thinking that there will be big issue problems solved, this is the beginning to what i am going to guess is a very big

This is my first Lisa Olsen book but it will not be my last.
Anja starts out in the morgue, turned into a vampire, and unsure how any of this happened, only to have a crazy cop (Bishop) showing up at her door asking for her license. Apparently it is against the law it is against the law to create new vampire without a license, and her sire is missing.
Bishop takes on the role of reluctant mentor, and helps to show Anja the rules and ropes of being a vampire. He helps her assume an identity that oth

This is a terrific tale of innocence lost.

Imagine waking up in the morgue not having any idea where you are or what happened. That's what happens to Anja Evans, a college music student. She soon learns there is a whole different side to the world when she finds she's been turned into a vampire. Her Maker abandons her and she is left with only one person to help her figure out how to survive. Bishop works for the Order, an organization that polices vampires, and finds Anja totally clueless about

An enjoyable read! it's not a typical Vamp romance (thank goodness - I'm SO sick to death of certain aspects that seem to come up like a stomach full of bad blood over and over). I found it easy to submerge myself into the story and was often surprised by what happened next. As the first book in the series, it's setting up a much longer story. So on the downside, you are left wondering how certain things will turn out...on the upside the author is kind enough not to leave us too in the dark on " ...more

...So, what did I like about it?
I haven’t read anything by Ms Olsen before; I found her writing style easy to read and I was impressed at how quickly she managed to submerge me into her world. All of the characters we met were complex and multi dimensional and I found them all to be very believable. I liked that Ms Olsen wrote her male main character, Bishop, as an alpha who wasn’t tortured about feeding and/or killing humans (“Anja, that’s

I was skeptical to read this story at first because it’s not my typical kind of book I would read but I said what the hell and read it anyway. Once I started reading I started getting more and more into the book to the point I was addicted!
Within the first chapter you automatically know the story is going to be full of twist, turns, mystery, and will leave you intrigued.

Anja is not your average vampire, she is a newborn who was abandoned. S

I read it to kill time. I don't like to be rude to authors. I don't love the book.
The main character was quite annoying, too naive for a college student. I know people who are the same age as who are annoying and naive and they are not my friends. I can't even talk to them without the urge to shake or slap them.

Quick read, plot dragged a lot; rather than focusing on looking for the Sire, it was all about the girl chasing a guy, avoided confrontation and thought a change in a woman is to dress

This was a great start to Vampire romance! If you like vampire story that lends more on the relationships then gory blood fights that are in most vampire stories you will love this book. Loads of great characters that I hope reappear in the coming books.
Anja wakes up in the morgue not sure what happened, when a detective shows up later at her house but she soon finds that he may not be the one to trust. Bishop must get Anja to listen so he can help her find the guy that "changed" her, as Anja st
More of a 3.5 for me. I liked the approach to Anja's story and it had some interesting twists. I'll continue with the series and see how it goes since it's so well rated...

As per typical with Lisa Olsen books, Wake Me did not disappoint. Her lead female character left nothing to be desired with her quirky nerdiness--very refreshing. It made her real to me thus easy to relate to even after her human qualities should have dissipated. I love the way she does everything wholeheartedly: how she loves Bishop so much, how she breaks every rule in an effort to do what's right and keep her human qualities. By the end I couldn't wait to get to the second book in the series! ...more

Don't be discouraged from reading this, just because of the two stars I gave. I enjoyed the story, but something was just a little off about it- I'm not sure what. I think it was maybe the pace at which things happened that threw me off; I wasn't sure if a few weeks had passed, or a few days, so it made it difficult for me to concentrate on the actual story. As for the characters, Anja isn't bad for an anti-hero. She's smart, somewhat independent, and is taking the sudden change into a vampire q ...more

Much didn't happen in this book but it was a pleasant read, despite the lead character's desperation. Admittedly she was sweet in a way that made even me find her desirable, which doesn't happen when a story is based on a female and told mainly from her POV.

My only real problem, besides the slow pace and lack of plot development, was the lead's desperation for and commitment to her love interest. She kept throwing herself at him despite his rejection and it became a bit embarrassing and hard to

I have to say the five-star award was pretty easy in this book. Why? well for starters it's got Vampires, a lead female character with a healthy dose of character, a charming-good-looking male counterpart, action scenes, loves scenes and the city of San Francisco, which I love, on the background.
I began reading the book and it was pretty hard to puet it down. There where some scenes that made me laugh and some others that kept me wanting to learn more about Anja and Bishop...

I hate books that don't end. You get to the last page and say "That's it?" The story wasn't bad, I was liking it. But I got to the end and it wasn't ended. I understand that if there's going to be another in the series then it's good to leave some questions unanswered and some situations unfinished. But to stop a story with no closure whatsoever seems like a blatant attempt to force us to buy the next in the series. I won't fall for it. No matter how much I liked the book, I wouldn't buy the nex ...more
Nerdy girl wakes up in the morgue and surprises the attendants. She bolts knowing her roomie works at this same hospital. This is the first book in the Forged Bloodlines series. The roomie suspects that Anja is a vampire but rules that out quickly seeing as Anja has a reflection. Turns out she is indeed a vampire. Her whole world is turned upside down and the only person who can answer her questions keeps pushing her away and threatens to put her in vamp jail because she is not registered. Total ...more

I am still contemplating my feelings over"Wake Me When the Sun Goes Down" because on one hand I enjoyed the read immensely, yet on the other hand I'm not really invested in the characters.

Tanya can't move. She is also uncomfortable where she us lying down but when she begins hearing voice calling her Jane Doe 6 and that the coroner wants her body, she panics and runs out the morgue before the police arrive. Tanya locates her roommate who works the graveyard shift in th he hospital in which she w
I was THRILLED to find out that I'd won a copy of this book in a book giveaway. I was even more thrilled when I started reading. From Anja's waking in a morgue wearing a strange "costume" covered in blood to her shaky steps toward her normal life as a college student studying voice, to her gradual awakening to the idea that, just maybe, she'd had more than a "near death" experience--I found myself anxious to find out what would happen next. We've got a wacky roommate, a two-timing ex boyfriend, ...more

I liked the premise of the story and enjoyed getting to know Anja.
The beginning started out rather slow for me. I had already figured out Anja's plight within the first few paragraphs. Once it warmed up and got going, I enjoyed following along while she learned how to deal with her new life as a vampire without a Sire.

There were a few funny parts that had me smiling. I connected with Anja and understood how she could fall in love so quickly. Yet I found I was rather irritated at how Bishop pla
