Earth, Fire, Air, Water – they are more than you dream.

As an air Elemental, 17-year-old Emily Morgan doesn’t have much power. That’s okay—she knows what happens to kids who do.

Like Michael Merrick. He’s an earth Elemental, one with enough power to level cities. Which makes him sexy. Dangerous. And completely off limits. At least according to Emily’s family.

But her summer j...more

He leaned in. "I come here every Wednesday and Friday."
Emily nodded.
"You going to try to kill me every time?"

If I had any sort of liquor in my house other than a crazy huge bottle of toasted marshmallow vodka, I'd probably crack it open and pour out a glass so I could toast Brigid Kemmerer. I'm extremely happy to have found a promising start to a pnr series. It's been a while. I decided to take a chance and read this free prequel first before starting book 1, just so I wouldn't have to commit...more

Oh wow! I definitely devoured this one, and boy was it good. I absolutely love Michael and his brothers already!

So didn't see that ending coming either. Off to pick up Storm! I need moreeee.

"In a way, he reminded her of wildcats at the zoo. Mountain lions, maybe, or panthers. All sleek and dangerous, but so beautiful you'd reach out and touch if you could."

3.5 stars A nice little novella prequel to the new young adult UF series.

Hey peeps, this novella is free for U.S. Kindles (and likely on other platforms, too): http://www.amazon.com/Elemental-ebook...

And I thought I couldn't be more excited to read Storm but I WAS WRONG. I'm already in love with Michael from reading this short (wish-it-was-so-much-longer) novella, so I can't imagine how hard I'm going to fall for these Merrick boys in a full-sized book! :)

Overall, I LOVED THIS SO MUCH! ♥ Buy it, buy Storm, and while you're at it, pre-order Spark because I'm pretty sure you're going to love it too! ;)

I am intrigued!

It's pre-game time before the Elemental Read Along tomorrow! I had the opportunity to hear Brigid read a little of this yesterday at a signing. Bad boy? Gimme.

This prequel novella set in the Elementals world introduces us to the eldest Merrick brother Michael. I think it's rather fitting that the last brother to get his own full-length novel is the very first one we meet, assuming we're reading the whole series in chronological order. (And I am...reviews of each novella and full-length novel are forthcoming as part of our read along.)

Michael's family lives in fear that they're going to be discovered for what they are...by Emily's family and those like...more

Michael is a young man weighed down with a lot of responsibility in Storm. He doesn't have the luxury most guys in their early 20's do, not when he's the guardian of his three teenage brothers. In Elemental, the prequel novella set 5 years before, we probe deeper into Michael's history and personality. He's an Earth Elemental, one who can harness astounding power, a Pure. That means he's dangerous and there are those who want him dead because of what he can do. Emily is the daughter of those peo...more

Elemental is a novella or short story (very short) of 50 pages that takes place six years before Storm, when Michael was 17 year-old and a summer coincides with Emily in a place where there are batting cages, where she is working for the summer. And we got to see a Michael who is always angry, wanting to escape his situation (his problems with the other elementals) and Emily's family is just one of the main elementals that would like too see him dead and end the truce between Merrick family and...more

Did anyone else think of that show when reading this? No? Hmmm, pretend I didn't say that than. :)

This is a really good start to a series that I think will take that witchy elements plot (one of my long time favorites, looove Secret Circle) somewhere really fresh and fun.

I don't have too much to say, this was only 50 epages, but I definite...more

Well this one won’t be very long as the story is not a long one. But its what starts everything off. This is the story of Michael and how he became the tough jerk that he is. But mainly its all about how he wasn’t that way once but events changed him forever.
Mainly this lovely little novella made me sit back and think: “I have mad respect for your ass-hatness Michael Merrick. I understand you now. And it is sad.” Yup, basically it makes you appeal more to Michael and understand him. And to be ho...more

Oh wow. What a nice into into the series. And to think Michael has no idea what will happen.
I loved this short. Michael I came to really, really like you in Storm. But now, I absolutely adore you!

What just happened? Why did it just end like that? Gahh! So not fair. Definitely looking forward to reading this series :)

My only complaint about Elemental is that it's too short. I know it's a short story, but just as it seemed like it was building up steam and it was getting really good -- BAM! It was over. It did its job well - it got me interested in the series. I was very glad to have Storm on hand because I started it almost immediately.

I loved Michael's back story and you really understand him so much better after reading this little installment. It's a must read! I want to dare everyone to pick this up and...more

I don't think you can tell that much from a prequel. This one read fast and gave you the sneak peek it was meant to give. I didn't like Michael. Maybe that is because this was such a short story he came across to me as moody and unlikeable. I do like the elemental concept. I read a historical romance series by Karen Hawkins called the MacLean Curse and it also included a family who manipulated the elements and I enjoyed it a lot.

I have started Storm, the first book in this series and it's great...more

I don't have the best track records with novellas, so imagine my surprise when I not only enjoyed Elemental, BUT found it peaked my interest in picking up the rest of the series!

So much of what's touched on in Elemental - the small group of people who have extraordinary control over an element and are disliked enough for it that people want them dead, the guild in charge of regulating those with powers, the fear behind becoming a rogue elemental, a shady deal that's supposed to guarantee Michael...more

First of all, the covers are so so very awful. I'm glad I'm reading these as ebooks so i don't have to look at a cover every time I take a break. Michael always looks constipated.

Just look at him:

That is not a sexy face.

I usually have a problem with novellas because in many of them the focus is just off, and Elemental falls right into that category. The ending was okay and made for some closure - unless you've read Storm first, then it's utter and complete frustration - but the rest of it felt...more

I have been hearing such wonderful things about this series that I took the opportunity to grab up this short prequel when it was offered for free. It took me a while to get around to reading it, but now that I did, I'm hooked.

There is not much of an explanation in this one about the world of the Elementals and it just jumps right into a short story piece that from what I understand gives background to Michael and explanation for what is to come in the rest of the series.

Emily takes a job at an...more

I’ve heard many great things about this series for a very trustworthy friend of mine and I thought that it was time to read it. So, instead of reading just the first book, I decided that it would be better to begin reading the first novella. I have to say that it’s a powerful start for a YA series! It kept my interest and made me want some more! Actually, I wanted this novella to be a whole book!

I don’t know anything for the first book but in this one we have the story of Emily and Michael in a...more

I’d have to say that the fact that Brigid Kemmerer decided to write a series about brothers with supernatural powers really piqued my interest. Michael’s novella really set the tone for the rest of the books. It was fast paced, action-packed, and emotional. I really loved getting this inside glance into what life was like for Michael before his little brothers became teenagers and had to deal with their own share of the effects of being Elementals.

Michael really felt t...more

In a world that harbors people with power linked to the elements, Michael Merrick shouldn't be that unusual. But given that he has enough power to probably level the entire town if his emotions get out of control, he's different from the other earth Elementals. His parents have made a deal with the rest of the Elemental community that as long as he doesn't use his powers, they'll allow him to stay alive - but that doesn't mean they're going to stop trying to provoke him into slipping up. Mini-golf and batting cages. Emily Morgan’s summer job at the sports complex could not be more boring. With an average of two customers a day, her time is filled with singing show tunes and trying to survive the intense summer heat and counting down the days until she has enough money to escape and perform on Broadway.

That is until Michael Merrick starts stopping by after his job at his family’s landscaping company to use the batting cages. After a misunderstanding involving her golf club and hi...more

This is a short insight for how it all started..

it's about Michael.. and it made me ache for him =(

As if life isn't hard enough for a boy his age.. He's carrying the burden of being pure elemental (people who don't know better will rejoice something like this) but not him.. he knows better.. knows much better..

He's torn between sticking to his family and between the guilt he feels for endangering all of them (little does he know.. they'll all end up the same)

All he wants is a place where he can...more

I have had this novella sitting on my Kindle for over a month now. It looked really interesting just by the cover(green is my favorite color ;)) but I just never got around to reading it.
Last night, I was skimming through my Kindle and found this story and just started reading. Oh my goodness I was completely hooked! The writing is fantastic and Kemmerer keeps you in the dark, only revealing a little bit at a time about the characters.

Well, this one was very short. To the point I was in no way ready for it to end. I just wanted it to keep going, to see what happened to Emily & Michael, because dayam is the reader left hanging at the end.
If this novella (or short, I guess) is a ploy to get readers to need to read on in the series, then congratulations, because the author has succeeded. This is definitely a great introduction to some of the character's in Kemmerer's Elemental world. I liked the two main character's a LOT. T...more

First, let me say I was a bit disappointed, when I got this book and realized it was only 49 pages long. I looked it up on here to see if this was part of a series or not, and behold it is!

So I figured I would give it a chance, and my oh my I was amazed on how quickly I fell into reading it. I feel in love with Michael from the beginning. I can not wait to read all the books in this series, because just by reading this novella, I do believe that this series will be awesome! I have never heard o...more

I’d love to start off by discussing the cover. These covers are so eye catching, with the good looking guys and the bright colors…however, the guy looks way too old to be Michael Merrick. Like at least ten years too old, probably closer to fifteen. That bothers me. I don’t know why but it really does. This, however, has nothing to do with my rating of the book. So please don’t think it has effected the outcome. It’s just me voicing my opinion on that matter…

What happens when your one safe haven isn’t safe anymore? That is what happens to Michael Merrick. He is an elemental, a strong one known as a pure. His element is the earth. He can use the power that he finds in it to make things happen – cracks in the pavement, earthquakes, et cetera.

Pures are feared because of the power that they hold and because of this, most of them are put to death by the Guides. It is the law that if you know of a pure, you are to tell the Guides so they can be taken car...more
