Scripture is generously used to combat the lies Satan puts in our children’s minds and to help parents teach and demonstrate Godly lifestyles.

Nicole answers the Why, When and How in each book as they speaks directly to the issues at hand, which are the prepared, watchful, and proactive stances listed above. I found this information vital for parents to know, as well as to process with their tween/teen.

The section under identifying the issue goes into greater detail, giving parents a great resource tool to open discussions with their children and to counsel them in the ways of God. And we all know as parents how hard it can be to open up discussions on these difficult issues at times with our teens.

The third section includes protective procedures, the armor of God and strategic scenarios to work through with their young people, helping them to prepare beforehand to stand up to peer pressure, drug pushers, dating pressures, and learning how they can control their own sexuality. I particularly think the strategic scenarios are a great tool to help their son/daughter to think through scenarios before they are enticed. Using the armor of God as parents and individually by the son/daughter will help them stand stronger.

Nicole O’Dell gives us a lot of great advice and information. If you have young people at home, start early to teach them Godly truths for these issues. Don’t leave it to the schools or church to do your parental duty. After all, God gave them to you to raise and teach them to walk in His ways. You CAN do it!

I believe every parent needs to get these Hot Button books. Remember, they are teaching sex education as early as kindergarten. Be proactive and reach your children for the Lord and His Godly ways before society and the media lead them down wrong and painful paths. These issues are close to my heart, and I thank Nicole for writing these practical, wise books for parents.

I LOVED these books and wish I had them when my oldest was a tween/teen. I still have 3 children at home and I am sure these are going to be great resources for conversations with them. I have also shared these books with our Youth Group Leaders and Sunday School teachers as many of the youth at our church do not have Christian parents to have these conversations with. The Scenerios will be great for discussion starters.

I had the privilege of reading and reviewing two of the Hot Button Series books, The Dating Edition and The Internet Edition. I was amazed at the wealth of information I found in both of these little books. Being a parent of a teen can be challenging, especially in the age of internet, smart phones and must much more that can compete for our teen's attention. Adults know how scary the world can be and yet we know that teens want to be out exploring the world more and more each day. What is a parent to do?

Nicole O'Dell has written a series of books designed especially for Christian parents of teens. Two books, Dating Edition and Internet Edition, have already been released. Two more books, Sexuality Edition and Drugs Edition, are scheduled to be released this fall.

The books are short, easy to understand and filled with Godly advice on many worldly subjects that teens face. What is packed in between these covers is advice that just might save your teens' life and mend any cracks in the parent/teen relationship that can be brewing. The advice is straightforward, but from a Christian standpoint which makes the books very convicting to any parent trying to raise Godly men and women.

The first part of each book details why it is so important for parents to talk to their kids about specific issues which author Nicole O'Dell calls "Hot Button" topics. The second part of each book lays out each specific Hot Button issues for the topic. For example, in the Internet Edition some Hot Button topics are on-line predators and Internet porn. The last section of each book contains scenarios that can be used as conversation starters.

These books are timely and interesting, even if the topics are scary for any parent to read about. My only concern is that these books target parents of teens, but parents might want to actually target tweens with this information. In this scary day and age, children need parental advice on these difficult subjects much earlier and earlier.

We are really big talkers in our family. It has always been our policy in our marriage and with our kids to have lots of open and honest communication. The Hot Button series by Nicole O'Dell is perfect for us.

These sections are basically the same in all of the books.

The next section of the book addresses different parts of the topic at hand. The internet book looked at internet safety, social media sites, and pornography. The dating book considered when to date, physical affection, and dating a nonbeliever.

In the last section of the book, Nicole points out some action steps that parents can take. Then she gives scenarios to discuss with your child. "If this happened what would you do?" The scenarios give parents and kids the opportunity to discuss difficult issues before they happen and become a problem.

I really, really liked the open communication style of these books. I liked how Nicole stressed early discussions and being open with your kids. I liked how she emphasized the need for constant prayer in our relationships with our kids.

The style of the books was easy to read and use. Each section is followed by bullet points for summarizing the content. The book's divisions are very nice to make them easy to follow. And at the back of each book is a parent/teen study guide designed to help parents and teens get into God's Word together as they discuss the topics.

I look forward to using the scenarios with my teen and almost teen children. And, I'd like to get the upcoming Hot Button books to use also.

This book has extremely helped me to realize the impact I have on my children and that I can take steps to insure that I am encouraging them to open up to me without fear of judgment. Two widespread problems that Nicole shared that teenagers have complained about parents are they are too busy and they don't ask questions when they share what's on their hearts. I must always give them my undivided attention when they are speaking about their problems and I have to avoid telling too many personal stories all at once. I must let them ask the questions of what I went through with my dating relationships. As parents, we have to set the example and display with our words and actions that we deeply care about the issues they encounter.

One statistics that terrified me was, "A recent survey suggested that if a child has a first date between the ages of 11 and 13, he or she has a 90 percent probability of being sexually active during senior year in high school. First date at age 14 leads to a 50 percent change; first date at age 16; 20 percent chance" (Page 57 in Hot Button- Statistics from Ray Guarendi, Discipline that Lasts a Lifetime). This was a huge eye-opener and a heartbreaking study that would cause parents to not let their children date until they are at least sixteen years old. This is a boundary that I now see that I must go ahead and stand firm on! The book also covered the differences between like, lust, and love. Most of our teenagers struggle to define what their relationships truly are and some are searching for love but settling for lust.

I would recommend this book series to any parent wanting to protect their teenagers from the hidden dangers of the internet, sexuality, dating, and drug use. Parents need to teach their sons to respect girls and not to use them. Girls also need to be taught not to play around with boy's hearts. It's vital we teach our children the foundations of great relationships now so eventually when they enter into marriage, they know how to treat their spouse. The book taught so many details and scenarios that I have never even considered that could be something my teenagers might have to face.

The scenarios section in each book contained 13-15 different scenarios per book. Parents would then describe the real life story to the teenagers, and then the teenagers would choose which ever multiply choice answer they would have done in that story. I loved that Nicole coached the parents to not freak out on whatever response their children gave them. These life lessons aren't meant to preach to your teenagers. It's meant to connect and understand what your children are thinking. Then you can guide them to the correct choice slowly. If you're looking for guidance on how to parent then this series could significantly benefit you! It has opened my eyes to the truth and I plan on doing this with my own children someday! If you're a parent, get this series, and do it with your children!

For many parents, there are some issues they would rather delay discussing with their children or just down right avoid all together. However, author, Nicole O'Dell, encourages parents to do away with that bury-your-head-in-the-sand approach to discussing matters such as dating, sex, Internet activity, and drugs. Instead she offers them encouragement and tools necessary to be proactive in providing youth a solid, Biblical foundation in which to make wise choices.

I cannot recommend this series of books highly enough. My daughter is not quite a teen, but I read the entire series. This one deals with dating, and I love the fact that there are scenarios, up-to-date information, and a parent-teen study guide. There is practical information for every parent, and the author is not afraid to share her mistakes with her readers. When our kids become teenagers there are conversations that we need to have with them about everything from relationships to drug use. These conversations can be a challenge for those of us who aren't really sure what to say or how to say it. Nicole O'Dell addresses these issues in her Hot Buttons Series of books. I read these Hot Buttons books for review and I have to say that I'm annoyed there wasn't anything like this when my kids were pre-teens and teens. I think it might have made all the difference in some of the choices they made. It's a safe, fun way to cover serious issues--exactly the way to reach a teen. I'm passing this series along to everyone I know who is raising a teen or facing those years down the road.

This is an awesome book! The format is easy to read quickly, and packed full of information. Not only does it share information for parents to understand just how important these issues are, and why they need to be proactive and start discussing these things before they are real issues for their kids.

I have read two of Nicole O'Dells books and was extremely satisfied with both.

Hot Buttons Dating Edition gives the parents all the resources that they need to help their teens with the awkward dating years.

Once again she caught me by surprise by introducing me to knowledge that I would have never thought about. This book is a god send for parents.
