(Note: This refers to all four of O'Dell's Hot Button Editions)

Fill in the blank.

I don't know how to talk to my tween about_______.

...Sex

...Internet Safety

... Pornography

...Dating

...Drugs

...All Of The Above.

There's a lot of topics parents in my children's ministry struggle to talk about.

I'm always looking to find a resource I can pass along to them, to help start a conversation at home - between parent and child.

It's not easy, but it's important.Actually, it's quite vital. At times, the conversa...more

Hot Buttons.....Dating Edition and Internet Edition.....by Nicole O'Dell

I had the privilege of reading and reviewing two of the Hot Button Series books, The Dating Edition and The Internet Edition. I was amazed at the wealth of information I found in both of these little books. Nicole O'Dell gives teens and tweens a series of books that will help in making difficult decisions on each of the subjects in these books.

In the Internet Edition, Nicole talks about Internet activity, social networking,...more

Great quote: "The battle we fight in protecting, shielding, and preparing our teens for life's hot-button issues isn't as black-and-white as a physical battle in which the wins and losses can be easily quantified. We must often blindly face the battles for our kids, operating more on faith than on sight, being obedient to the call of Christ and reliant on the leading of the Holy Spirit." Internet Edition, Page 22

Let me just go ahead and say that I am not in the target audience yet for these parenting series books. I am only twenty-two, not married yet, and I don't have any children or teenagers. But I hope to one day be a husband and a father.

In the Internet Edition, Nicole O'Dell addressed the issues that come up surrounding internet usage and the dangers lurking around our children. I understood her position on making sure we have boundaries and rules in motion to protect our children. We must supervi...more

I cannot recommend this series of books highly enough. My daughter is not quite a teen, but I read the entire series. This one deals with the internet, and I love the fact that there are scenarios, up-to-date information, and a parent-teen study guide. There is practical information for every parent, and the author is not afraid to share her mistakes with her readers. I have read many books about some of the issues covered in these books, but I have not found one that made so much sense and was...more

When our kids become teenagers there are conversations that we need to have with them about everything from relationships to drug use. These conversations can be a challenge for those of us who aren't really sure what to say or how to say it. Nicole O'Dell addresses these issues in her Hot Buttons Series of books. She not only provides ways to have the conversations, but also the scripture to go along with each one.
As a mom of two teenagers, I am constantly looking for resources to help me lead...more

I LOVED these books and wish I had them when my oldest was a tween/teen. I still have 3 children at home and I am sure these are going to be great resources for conversations with them. I have also shared these books with our Youth Group Leaders and Sunday School teachers as many of the youth at our church do not have Christian parents to have these conversations with. The Scenerios will be great for discussion starters.

I read these Hot Buttons books for review and I have to say that I'm annoyed there wasn't anything like this when my kids were pre-teens and teens. I think it might have made all the difference in some of the choices they made. It's a safe, fun way to cover serious issues--exactly the way to reach a teen. I'm passing this series along to everyone I know who is raising a teen or facing those years down the road.

This one is another great resource for Christian parents. I also think parents in general, regardless of religious beliefs, could use much of the information in these books. Just strip away the stuff you don't agree with, and there's still a lot of good information.

More to come ...

This book definitely teaches you how to be safe on the internet and it's a nifty little book, but it doesn't hit the most important topics about the internet.

Loved this book. I as a parent did not think about all of the subjects/topics regarding internet.

As a parent we can never be to prepared for everything that our children will face in our world. This book touched subjects that I would have not thought about on my own and that I would have missed as a parent.

I recommend this book to every parent who needs the knowledge to help their child understand the dangers of the internet and how not to become a victom.

I feel better prepared and a little more...more
