WHISPERS AT MOONRISE just didn't quite do it for me, unfortunately.

The fourth and penultimate book in CC Hunter's SHADOW FALLS series brings us back to the Shadow Falls camp with Kylie Galen and the gang. My prediction for this book is that Lucas is going to be forced by his grandma to marry a were like Fredricka ( the were-bitch) in order to stay in the pack, but Lucas wants Kylie so I have a feeling he'll end up leaving the pack and being Kylie's soul mate. As for Derek, I'm at a loss as what is going to happen. i favor Lucas, I think because he's loved Kylie so long I think that they truly are soul mates, but I love Derek and his sensitivity swell:(((

OMG i cant wait until October. It seems like this is the month for everything I want to read to come out. But hey I am NOT complaining. Now to make my little comments:
1) The cover could of been soooooo much better
2) I hope Holiday and the big sexy FRU vampire agent get together FINALLY
3) Miranda and Perry are goig to fall in love
4) Della is going to get a boyfriend who can treat her right and who knows what she is
5) Lastly the whole Kylie-Lucas-Derek situation. Really a part of me is confuse...more

I devoured this book in a couple of days. I really can't get enough of the characters in Shadow Falls! Every installment just endears me more and more to their interactions, foibles, and character flaws. It all makes me love them the more. Except for one particular character in this installment. *grumbles emphatically* Whose name I can't say because of spoilers. Damn you spoilers, I so want to call this character out on their bad behavior!! Needless to say, that particular character went down in...more I devoured this book in a couple of days. I really can't get enough of the characters in Shadow Falls! Every installment just endears me more and more to their interactions, foibles, and character flaws. It all makes me love them the more. Except for one particular character in this installment. *grumbles emphatically* Whose name I can't say because of spoilers. Damn you spoilers, I so want to call this character out on their bad behavior!! Needless to say, that particular character went down in my estimation in this book. I definitely decided on my 'team' also. It so far in the series has flip flopped between Derrek and Lucas on equal occasion - but not any more! My bed is firmly made. ;)

Kylie is getting ever-closer to discovering the secrets of her identity as a supernatural in 'Whispers at Moonrise'. But what with every other crazy thing going on in her life (including her mid-life crises parents, her triangle shaped love life, not to mention seeing the ghost of someone close to her that's still alive!), how can she possibly handle everything, and keep her sanity? What sacrifices will Kylie have to make to find out what she really is, and where she ultimately belongs?

I can't believe I have to wait all the way until next spring for the final installment!!!! And OMG, the final cover art is frickin' beautifully gorgeous! *fangirls and pulls hair out erratically*

Sidenote: On the topic of beautiful covers. This cover....hmmm - why am I so disappointed? It has all the makings for a beautiful cover...but it's just not quite right. I may feel this way purely because the other covers have been frickin' GORGEOUS, and my eyes have simply been spoiled - the book-art-appreciation section of my brain overstimulated by the aesthetic wonders of the previous three offerings...but none the less, I'm still a little sad about this one.

Every other book has had a cover that centers around some kind of vertical landscape scene behind the title (be it a tree, waterfall, negative space between cliffs)...but this cover has a big square hole cut out of the middle and the title slapped inside it (like a sticker almost). It looks rushed, and not very well thought out.(less)

Kylie is living at Shadow Falls, a camp for supernaturals. But Kylie isn't like the other kids at camp, she's not a vampire, or werewolf, or shifter, or fae. She's a chameleon, which means she has the DNA for many different types of supernatural. Not many chameleons exist and very little is known about them, so Kylie feels like a freak. She hasn't yet learned to control her changes so she's never sure what she's going to be at any one time. She's also a ghost whisperer which means she sees spirits and helps them to solve their problems so they can cross over. And if all that doesn't make her weird enough, she's also the first half blood protector. She gains amazing strength and speed when someone else is in danger but she can't protect herself in dangerous situations.

Kylie has two amazing, hot guys vying for her attention. Derek who's fae and Lucas, a werewolf. When she appears to have made her choice, a whole new can of worms opens up and she's left miserable.

She has two brilliant best friends, Miranda who's a witch and Della, a vampire, who she also shares a cabin with. The trio really care for and look out for each other.

Kylie has an extremely close relationship with the camp leader, Holiday, a fae. Burnett is another camp leader, a vampire, who is crazy about Holiday. Kylie has been trying to get them together for a long time as she's sure Holiday feels the same but won't give in because she's been hurt before.

But being a chameleon, so unusual and so powerful, brings with it it's own danger for Kylie. She's on the radar of a gang run by Mario, also a chameleon, who previously kidnapped her and wanted her to marry his grandson. He is ruthless, killing his own grandson when he tried to protect Kylie.

And the FRU, kind of like the supernatural FBI, want to carry out tests/experiments on her, the same experiments that led to the death of her grandmother. Her grandfather wants to take her away to live with him so he can protect her and teach her what she needs to know to survive as a chameleon. She doesn't want to leave Shadow Falls as it feels like her home, the only place she belongs.

Whispers at Moonrise is a brilliant instalment in the Shadow Falls series, maybe the best one yet. A killer is on the loose. Having already killed three girls, Holiday is next on his list. And with only the help of one of the dead girls, Kylie must try to find out who the killer is before time runs out. She's also dealing with her own problems of being on Mario's hitlist, trying to figure out more about being a chameleon and not feel like such a freak and, deal with the fact that she and Lucas are spending very little time together, the reason being, that the pack doesn't approve of her.

From the very first book, this series reeled me in and has kept me riveted since. And now, with only one more to go, Chosen at Nightfall will be a bittersweet read. I can't wait to have it in my hands yet I don't want this series to come to an end.(less)

*I think this was definitely my favorite book out of all of them. It was different in the way that it wasn’t action-y and was more a mystery. This was basically the book where most of our questions were answered while at the same time, Kylie and the rest of the gang were trying to figure out who killed Holiday’s twin sister. And jeez! They went one some awesome traces/leads and I loved guessing who killed her, why, and everything else. As morbid as it sounds, this was definitely my kind of book!

What I didn’t like? I didn’t get why Kylie didn’t tell Holiday about the ghost with her face. It just seemed weird. I mean, sure it would’ve scared her but Holiday had the right to know plus it would’ve been easier and faster to figure out why the ghost had her face if Holiday had known. It just really annoyed me to hell and back. But hey, that only lasted 1/3 of the book!

While Kylie was a little annoying when it came to romance in the beginning you’ll eventually forgive her when it’s clear she’s literally torn apart between her feelings for Derek and the ones she has for Lucas. I mean, they’re both awesome guys and honestly? While I’m Team Lucas, I did fall for Derek. He’s the complete opposite of Lucas and I was just as torn as Kylie was. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW SWOON WORTHY THESE TWO GUYS ARE?

Characters? This is going to be long…
You guys, my favorite character absolutely has to be Della! She’s so snarky and fun that you just have to love her! If possible, she’s more snarky in this book than in any other! And she was an amazing friend besides, no matter WHAT she says/acts like. Miranda was too! And I loved how she kept squealing about Perry after they (finally) got together! It was too cute!
I’m not even going to mention the boys. That would take too much squealing. Sigh. I’m totally crushing on too many book boyfriends.
Kylie is definitely a great MC. She wasn’t as stupid as some other characters; she figured (most of) the things out and I loved that she would give the benefit of a doubt and that she always, always, understood. Err…well, most of the time!

OMG. You guys! The ending. The ending! AGH! Can I choke someone? You could hear my jaw drop half way around the world. I was not expecting that at all and loved that this book could surprise me right when I had things figured out! I can honestly say that I’ve never been more surprised! And I’ve never read a more cliffhang-y cliffhanger.

As stunning as the first three, C.C. Hunter writes an amazing fourth installment that will answer some questions, but raise even more. A thrillingly satisfying read, Whispers at Moonrise will keep you guessing until the last page, leaving you shocked and aching for Chosen at Nightfall!(less)

There is so much to say for this book. I really think it's the best one in the series so far.

I laughed because some of the situations and dialogue were hilarious: Kylie accidently appearing in the boys bathroom, Della talking about why she would never stuff her bra, Kylie calling out her mom on having sex and several others. I was literally laughing out loud - maybe because I have a vivd imagination and the way the scenes played out were so embarassing that you couldn't help but laugh.

There is also alot of intensity and suspense throughout the story as Kylie is sucked into various visions or trying to sneak away to get more information about herself and what's happening to and around her. The visions are kinda creepy and exactly how you'd imagine things that go bump in the night. There is a scene where she's stuck under a bed and another where she is stuck in a closet, all place you would expect to find monsters or evil lurking about - even, if that is not what each place actually symbolizes in the book and they occur there more by coincidence, the inference that bad things hide under beds and in closets is still there. The places her visions occur are kind of guilty by association.

But, by the end, I was definitely close to tears though not actually crying. There was just so much happening between Kylie helping the ghost of Holiday's sister, solving the mystery of who wanted to harm Holiday, finally getting Burnette and Holiday on the same page, figuring out her own love crisis, and then the heartbreak of something that very closely resembles betrayal.

I am probably one of the few who will say this: I don't hate Lucas. I think he made a poor choice and possibly one with irreparable consequences but I can see his point of view as much as I can see Kylie's. And because of his poor judgment, Lucas's fan base has dropped but the drama factor just increased ten fold! More than anything, when you take into consideration the entire story rather than only the sole act at the end of the book, Lucas and Kylie should still be together. They have a passion and they love each other.

While Derek loves Kylie, it's not reciprocated in the same way and they don't share the same intensity.

That being said, I could honestly be okay with her ending up with either of them.

I think Lucas is the more likely candidate and I kinda hope they work it out becasue I think love stories are actually better with impossibility and difficulty mocking every step. But, Derek is a great guy and he would be good for Kylie. I just don't see the same kind of connection there but, perhaps in the next book, that will change.

I am intrigued by what Kylie will find beyond Shadow Falls among her own kind. (I really want to know why Kylie glows...) Though, her choice to do so is bittersweet. Understandable but difficult to accept. I have really liked all the characters in Shadow Falls and even though I know they will all return in the final book, the end of Whispers at Moonrise give off such a sad vibe. Inevitably, the characters won't be right at the forefront with Kylie as they have been for most of the series.

I am sooooo glad that Holiday and Burnette have finally taken the plunge! Everyone seems to be on the right track romantically except for Kylie. In a way, that's really nice because, at one time, there were so many love story issues in this series that it was like a damn soap opera. But, finally, Miranda and Perry are together and now, Burnette and Holiday. Things are looking up.

The last book has the potential to be really great. There is the new "evil" spirit, Kylie's departure and return, Lucas's were commitment, Della's involvment with the FRU, the gang that's after Kylie, the FRU itself, maybe Holiday and Burnette's wedding and the finale of the love triangle all competing for attention. Kind of exciting, really.(less)

I absolutely love this series. I am going to hate to see the day it ends. With each twist and turn that Kylie goes thru, she learns more and more about what she is and what she is capable of. Wow!! This book was sooo slow!! It only got 3 stars from me because of her friends. (excluding Derek). I just live Burnett and Holiday!! Only reason the book is actually worth reading!! I also love Perry! Della and Miranda are good but I dislike Della's mood swings. Kylie was just annoying!! Ugh and she better not end up with Derek!! I mean I don't like Lucas either but he's better than Derek!! To be honest I have no idea what Derek and Lucas see in Kylie. All she does is whine about all the awe...more

So now I finished the first four books and waiting until the end of April for the last book (which honestly I will be glad to be finished). Not that I don't like it because I really do. For the most part it is interesting and entertaining. The story of Kylie coming to this paranormal camp and slowly learning things about who she is has many interesting revelations to it. I was excited to get back into this book, but really shocked when I found out I didn't remember a thing that happened in the book before this one. When I read this series I have found that I always tend to forget what happened when I get the next book, so its a constant catch-up of what happened last, because I just don't remember! So now Kylie knows she's a 'chameleon' but ?what does that mean. (Although it is pretty hillarious the way that she stresses out about being a lizard). And once again there's a 'ghost-du-jour' although this time at least it's to help someone else.

Hunter's fourth book in her Shadow Falls series like the last one, picks up right where the previous left off. And with a new book, Kylie has a new ghost problem. Only this time it's the ghost of Holiday who definitely isn't dead. Not wanting to scare Holiday she lets everyone pretend the face the ghost is using is from someone from back home.

Trying to figure out who the ghost really is, isn't easy. But with the help of Derek they realized that Holiday has or well had a twin sister, Hannah. Not to mention they are sure that Holiday doesn't know her sister is dead. Plus Hannah keeps on insisting that Holiday is endangered and Kylie can save her. The person wanting to kill Holiday ends up being kind of a surprise. Wasn't my first guess, even though at one point I did figure it out. But what I didn't like was why it was never explained why he wanted to murder her. And we even learn and get to meet Holiday's ex fiancee, and learn why Holiday has trust issues. And even though the book started off with Holiday and Burnett having a heated makeout secession, neither one is brave enough to admit their feelings. But the ending shows them both making a huge step forward and finally getting together.

Even though Kylie finally finds out what type of supernatural she is, her identity crisis doesn't stop there. It doesn't help that nobody has heard of a supernatural chameleon before. And here is one of my issues, nobody believes her but she repeats over and over throughout the book that's what her father told her and she believes him. One time is enough. It doesn't need to be repeated over and over. It doesn't stop when her brain pattern changes several time over the book. First it takes form of a witch, then vampire and finally a werewolf. Plus she gets the main powers of whatever species she "is" at the time. She meets up with her grandfather and great aunt. And they confirm that they are chameleons, and they can take form of any supernatural pattern, having a bit of every species in their DNA. Her grandfather insists that she isn't safe at the camp, and her only chance at survival is coming to live with them, to be with her own kind. Kylie refuses to leave the camp. She knows she belongs there. But after a betrayal, she realizes that she needs to go live with them for a little bit.

And then as always is her boys trouble. A fair warning, if you are a huge fan of Lucas and easily offended, you may want to stop reading. Lucas is a douche. And he has proved this big time in this book. Now along with last book, there were moments when Lucas did make me swoon, and damn it Lucas I don't like me. Not nice to make me swoon. Lucas won't be around Kylie in public, because of his pack. He claims that by the end of the month, he'll be on the council and they can be together in public. That he can start making changes. Yet he doesn't share what he needs to do with Kylie. But he doesn't even try to understand Kylie and what she needs to do. Even though the book seems that Kylie isn't in love with Derek, her heart belongs solely to Lucas, I beg to differ. I think Kylie is scared to admit her true feelings for Derek. Not to mention that the ghost tells Kylie she should choose Derek, for most of the book Miranda and Della are anti Lucas, and when she tells Sara that she has chosen one of them she immediately thinks it's Derek. Plus Miranda tells Kylie that she hardly ever talks about Lucas, but she used to talk about Derek all the time. I won't go in details to what happens, but Lucas does the ultimate betrayal. Kylie has to find out from Fredericka, whom is under the impression that Kylie knows and understands. I knew from the beginning Lucas would break her heart. He's an ass. And Kylie deserves so much better. I've mentioned in previous reviews that I don't buy the whole he fell instantly in love with her and has been waiting for 11 years. They were 6 and 7 years old. And it was revealed in this book that he had climbed in her window one night and kissed her. WTF?! These are kids we are talking about. This is beyond creepy. Lucas just needs to GTFO like NOW. It's shown in this book that he will always put the pack above her. Derek has been there for her time and time again. And he's more understanding than Lucas is about her.

Overall, the book is pretty amazing. And the next one can't come out fast enough. I need to know who Kylie finally chooses, which I'm pretty sure it will be Derek.(less)

Hmmm, I feel guilty because this will surely be a biased review. WHY? I hadn’t followed the series; in fact this is the first book I’ll be reading from C.C. Hunter. I just asked to review this when I saw her name and all the fussed about her books, not even thinking that this is the fourth book in the series. So, I’m not so totally in love with the story! Just finished reading this, and I've got to say.......... I loved it. This is one of my favorite series.

***SPOILER ALERT***

Favorite things-- The cover. The title. Della, the baddest vampire. Miranda, the dyslexic witch. Derek, the perfect man. Kylie, the chameleon (loved that part!) Burnett, for finally admitting his feelings. Holiday, for saying yes. Socks, for turning back into a kitten. Unpredictable magic, including a six pack. And just about everything else.

I loved this book!! I fell in love with the series when I read Born at Midnight, and for once these books come out every six months (about).
(Caution contains some spoilers)
THINGS I LOVED:

1) The plot, I had always hoped that Kylie would do something like she did in the end! Talk about a cliff-hanger!
2) That she found out what she was.

I'm glad I took a chance on this book.

Honestly, I was getting a bit weary with the series, because of the third-person narrative, and the confusion about Kylie's identity... It was dragging on.

BUT, I loved all the side-stories.
I loved all the characters, especially Della.

I kind of wish I got to read more about Miranda and Perry's relationship.

I can already tell you now that this book series will one day be made into a movie. How do I know that? I can feel the suspense rising off the page when I am reading books like this one. I feel like this series would be the perfect one to be made into a movie. Problem 1:
Why does everyone loves and cares about Kylie so much? Because she's different? She doesn't know her species? It's as if without Kylie, there would be no Shadow Falls.

You can't take these books seriously. Which I don't. They're so bad they're good.

The thing that annoys me about these books is not the dragged plot that just repeats itself (I survived Glee season 3).

Whispers at Moonrise is the fourth book in the Shadow Falls series. All the books are from the point of view Kylie, a teen age who has supernatural abilities that aren't defined by any typical group. She can heal, run at incredible speeds, has excellent hearing, feel other peoples emotions, go invisible, dream scape (create dreams that she can share with other people) and she can see ghosts.
