This is, in a very real sense, a populist cookbook. As the Editor, Tanya Steel, says at the outset ". . .our enormous global family of passionate cooks are the real authors of this cookbook." Steel and other editors had their choice of 180,000 recipes appearing on the Epicurious web site (epicurious.com). Some were by major chefs (e.g., Tom Colicchio) and others by ordinary folks sharing their recipes. Those going to the web site can rate recipes; this book features highly rated recipes. 250 of...more
The Good Stuff
Incredible variety of recipes
Lots of interesting & unusual combinations
Each recipe has comments from Epicurious users
Wife wants you to know the Index is fabulous
The banana bread recipe is the best we have ever used - Jen makes an excellent banana bread but this one is even better
I didn't have time to make any of the recipes so Jen actually did all the cooking and baking -- she's getting better too
The pictures make the recipes look appetizing -- however there are very f...more

I won this recipe book through Goodread's "Giveaway." It's a great recipe book! Layout of the recipes makes it easy to read as you cook. The book is broken down into recipes for each of the four seasons which I really like. One thing that the recipe does lack that I think would be a good idea would to have an estimated time to make each recipe from start to finish so that if I need a quick recipe I can scan the pages for one that takes less time. Other than that I highly recommend the book. For...more
As a frequent visitor to the Epicurious website, I was thrilled to see that they were finally putting out a cookbook and I am happy to say that this book does not disappoint. I have read the recipes from cover to cover and have already bookmarked more than three-quarters of them to try! I like the seasonal layout for the recipes and the authors have clearly worked hard to include a broad sampling of foods including breakfast, starters, breads, desserts and a mix of vegetarian, fish, poultry and...more
I won this book through the giveaways, and was SO excited. I have used the Epicurious app in the past, and really like it! The great thing about Epicurious is the recipes make you feel and look like a five star chef! Yet all are relatively simple to cook. I'm someone who usually likes to google. Ill think i want some peanut butter cookies and google for a recipe. The problem then is I'm lost the next time I want the same thing. This cookbook alleviates that problem- it's got all of my favorites...more
Wow. Unfortunately this cookbook read like a collection of different people's good recipes loosely organized. It offers no insight into the website, the users of the website or the food and recipes included.
It has definitely peaked my interest in writing a blog post in defence of the cookbook. It only takes a recipe book for me to see what I value in my cookbook collection and why. I have tried some of the recipes. They are all good. The book is unnecessary.

Great variety and nutritional information for each recipe. I was disappointed with the organization that makes it very frustrating to find recipes. I also expected more pictures of dishes. There are too many steps in the recipes for busy weeknights for my family. I would save them for weekends and special occasions when I have more time to spend in the kitchen.
I borrowed this from the public library (I usually do that so I can check them out before I spend money on them) and then went on to buy the ebook.
The recipes look amazing. There is a good balance of beginner/easy to the more complex/advanced.
My only complaint is I feel there are just not enough pictures.

I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway. I feel so lucky, because it is absolutely wonderful! It's edited really well with a nice mix of quick/easy and more time-consuming recipes, beautiful pictures, and easy to follow instructions. I'll update this review as I make some of the dishes! :)
Recipe 1: Triple Chocolate Cookies. These were a big crowd pleaser! The recipe called for 1/4 cupfuls on the cookie sheet, but I'll probably make mine smaller next time. A suggestion in the cookbook is to...more

Five stars for this cookbook, although four forks would definitely be more appropriate! Epicurious has delivered a fabulous cookbook that finds the perfect balance between Epicurious member's recipes and recipes from professionals. I won this book as a Goodreads first read and I'm looking forward to using it in the kitchen.
The best that Epicurious has to offer, all in one delicious book!
