(I made this statement months ago: I loved the first two novels in this series. In general, time flies by way too fast, but sometimes it goes way too slow. Waiting for a good book like this one to come out qualifies for time at a snail's pace. :-D)

Wow, I loved FLOCK! Thank you so much to Candlewick for the ARC. I seriously couldn't wait.
Oh my goodness, Wendy Delsol's writing is so lyrical and brilliant. From page one, I was sucked right back into the story of Katya and Jack and a cast of superna...more

What a conclusion!! Every emotion is pulled from you through the course of this book. Belief and disbelief and pure pleasure and happiness are chief among them.

**there are some spoilers in the rest of this**

Katla and Jack are home again. But now, Brigid is trying to break back into their world. Causing disastrous events, such as sinkholes, hurricanes, and earthquakes. Even worse, Katla was tricked into bargaining her (at the time unborn) baby sister's life to save Jack. Now she has to find a wa...more

In the final book of the Stork series, Katla LeBlanc, a member of a secret society of soul deliverers, must yet again stop the Ice Queen from bringing about the end of the world. Hoping to have a normal senior year, Katla and Jack’s world gets turned upside down with the arrival of Marik and Jinky when she learns that she has inadvertently promised her newborn sister to the Water Queen and that Marik is there to collect.
Katla is a likeable heroine and this story does a good job of incorporating...more

This book really fell short for me. I feel like Delsol describes how I felt at the end of this book the best, "No more secrets, no more heroics, no more asinine self-sacrificing plots." (pg 370)

There wasn't much of a plot in this book. Sure, there were lots if problems, but Katla didn't actually do much except for worry/complain/act illogically (with the ever prominent excuse of "I don't want people to worry about me!") (view spoiler)[And the way she tried to create tension between Katla and Jac...more

4.5 out of 5

I've said this before about this series, it is so original! I love it. The covers are so beautiful; "frosting" on the cake. Yep, I punned it, so what! Once again we have Kat in a messy situation with some Nordic baddies. The modern references, as in the previous books, hit just the right spot to make the book relatable. One thing I really missed was Kat's inner dialogue. She didn't seem to have as much in this book as she did in the others. We don't see as much interaction with Kat &...more

Was Katla always this... catty? With the arrival of the two transfer students, Kat makes a big deal over how awful being the new kid is, and how she hopes they fit it- or rather how she hopes Marik, the hot guy, fits in. The other transfer student, Jinky, gets no such concern, and Katla continues to neglect and eye her suspiciously solely for dressing slightly goth-y and initially coming off a little icy. While Katla eventually warms up to Jinky, her initial prejudices are never portrayed as neg...more

LORD HAVE MERCY WHAT AN ADVENTURE THIS SERIES HAS BEEN! With that said in yes all shouty caps I have to do a recap of all the books that lead up to this EPIC conclusion. I know I know some people did not like the series but to each his own. I really enjoyed this series because it had a little of everything and when a book uses myths I just adore it. Wendy did a wonderful job of weaving a world that went from the ordinary to the extraordinary. If you are looking for a good series to read this is...more

I have to start by mentioning the cover of Flock. Is it not the most gorgeous cover ever? Does her hair not have the most perfect waves you've ever seen? The colors, the birds in the background... it's all just so stunning. Well done, Candlewick designers, well done.

That's not the only good thing about this book. Flock is a fabulous finish to one of the most surprising trilogies I have come across in the inflated YA paranormal market in recent years. I love that Katla is a Stork, and member of a...more

This book was really good. I was so psyched when I got this book. I had it on hold at the library and It taken a long time for it to come in. That was a bit disappointing, but once I got it...it just sat there. It just sat there on my bookshelf waiting to be read. I have no idea why it took me that long to read it. Eventually I had reached my maximum on how many times I could renew the book that I forced myself to read the book. So I started to read it and I was depressed because there wasn't a...more

Probably 3.5. This is a good ending to the series (a cute, clean, fun series!!). I was a little confused by what exactly was happening in the final confrontation and how it led to the results it did ((view spoiler)[Kat and Jack losing their powers and the end of the world NOT happening? Huh?! (hide spoiler)]), but I enjoyed the overall story anyway. I absolutely love Kat’s internal voice and narration--she’s so funny!! And I liked Jack MUCH more in this book than the last one. The other characte...more

I really enjoyed the first two books in the Stork trilogy so I was excited to read this last one. And while it wasn't my favorite of the trilogy, I definitely enjoyed it.

Once again, I just loved Kat. I still love her humor and kind of sarcastic streak. And I love that she does what she thinks is right, even if it's not exactly what she's supposed to be doing. And I still like her relationship with Jack (although we don't get too much of him in this book). I think it still seem...more

This is the third book in the series. In the first Katla finds out that she is a "stork" - a group of women who through dreams guide souls of babies into specific women. In the second, Katla has to go to an alternate world and battle a queen of that land, and is tricked into promising her baby sister to the queen. In the third, the queen tries and eventually is able to come to earth to collect the baby. But Katla has a scheme to try to make the queen take her instead. I didn't really understand...more

I was fortunate to receive an advanced reader of Flock and as a fan of the first two novels I was not disappointed.

“Flock" continues the story of Katla Leblanc as she tries to navigate high school while adjusting to her responsibilities as a stork. Kat has to deal with must adjust to her changing life including a new house, a new sister and a new stepfather, while trying to learn her role in the society that gift souls.

“Flock” has all the appeal of Delsol’s previous novels. Kat’s narrative is o...more

What I Liked: 1) Well, the first two books have focused a lot of their energies (or plotlines) on some of the Nordic legends, of which were all unknown to me. And I loved that about it. But this one focused more on how those legends were being rewoven into today's time period, and what effects they were having on Katla and her generation. I really love how Miz Delsol took her story a step beyond just retelling these somewhat obscure legends. 2) This is kind of an extension of the first thing I m...more

As a Lark I feel that I didn't stand a chance against the series. How could I not fall in love with a world that has so many bird references? I picked up Stork on a whim and since then I have enjoyed every moment spent in the fascinating and magical world of Norse Falls. This book was a difficult one for me because I am not ready to say goodbye to these characters that I have grown to love. I tried to read it slowly an...more

I can't believe the final book in the Stork trilogy is finally here. I am sad to see this trilogy come to an end but I really liked the way it all ended. I thought this book was better than the second one- I really enjoyed it! We got to see lots of new characters, which I think was awesome. I think that was just the thing missing from book 2. The new additions breathed new life into the story.

Kat is just such a determined girl. She does not give up, which is so admirable. Even if she doesn't al...more

The third book to the trilogy, Flock kept me on my toes. Kat and her boyfriend, Jack have come through so many incidents that it is amazing that their love has survived this long. Now that Jack is in college and Kat is still in high school, it almost seems like they are drifting apart. But it isn't what it seems. I was kind of disappointed at the end of the story not because of the ending but because Kat and Jack both lost something quite permanently. Maybe there will be a fourth book someday?

This book was my least favorite. Everything built up to a short climax and then that was it. So much more potential: lost boy could have been Marik's soul, Alfi could have been new merking, why waste time talking about the pink witch and her cameo when nothing comes of it, and why did Kat and Jack lose their powers?? Ragnorok started and ended in almost the same chapter. Really?? I felt like this was thrown together to meet a deadline.
I would have been happier waiting for a 4th book to keep the...more

I spend a lot of time complaining about how everything is a series, but sometimes I read a book with such an awesome main character that I find myself desperately grateful that the book is a series. And so it was with Stork by Wendy Delsol, the first book in a trilogy featuring the sarcastic and caring fashionista Katla. Last year the second book, Frost, came out and now it is finally time for the third and final book in the series, Flock. The result is that I went into reading Flock with mixed...more

This book was definitely an improvement over Frost, but I still didn't like it quite as much as Stork. Still, it wraps up Katla and Jack's stories in a nice way, it flows much better than the previous book, and it was a quick read. I like how Delsol uses Norse mythology; it's a nice change from a lot of other YA mythology-based books. At times I did want to shake Katla for making some of the decisions she made (ie. not asking for help when she should have), but overall I enjoyed it, and although...more

I'm shelving the audio of this for now. I find myself wandering away from it while driving, and I'm not sure if it's my general reaction to the format or the narrator. I love Katla and company. I love Delsol's writing. I love her story. I just feel like the narrator of this series is so emotionally-bland and doesn't capture Katla's zest, her spirit, and her character the way it needs to be. It deserves a better narrator, and I honestly will be buying the hardback just so I can read it in print a...more

FLOCK is the final book in the STORK trilogy, and quite possibly the best. Characters from the previous two books appear to help or hinder Katla's attempts to save her baby sister, place a soul with her friend Jaelle, hold onto her relationship with Jack, and deal with mysterious and dangerous "natural" events. Ms. Delsol masterfully brings the story to an exciting and satisfying conclusion while deftly tying up the trilogy's many subplots.

Highly recommended for readers from 11-adult!

This book wrapped up things, but I am not sure how I feel about the ending. I was surprised that there wasn't much with the Storks, something I really liked about this series. What little there was with them left me feeling like they were under utilized and that Kat's role with them was glossed over. I did like how Kat reached out for help when she needed it and that those that were disappointed with Kat helped her.

I hated how Kat felt like she had to hide things from everyone, especially Jack....more

I am still processing this book. It felt like too much mythology this time and taking for granted the audience knowledge of such. Plus the ending felt incomplete somehow even though it was not. However, I read it quickly and enjoyed myself, so that is saying something. I think I will revisit this review in a few days after I think about.

Enjoyed the first two books in the series for their characters, storytelling & unusual Nordic myth influences. Unfortunately, I had to force myself to finish this one. Really shouldn't be the case with the final book in a trilogy - it felt rushed, and a kind of everything but the kitchen sink approach. bummer.
Stacey
Ok, there were more than a few "huh?" moments for me in this book, but the ending annoyed me. Spoiler: I get saving your own sister, but at the expense of five other lives locally, and many more world-wide, this is pretty horrible. She made the decision to kill a bunch of other people to save her one. At a minimum, that should have been recognized, but wasn't.

Despite the fact that this trilogy veered from the original theme quite often, it did inter connect everything. It also had the best wrap up I've read in a very long time. There were some surprises that I wasn't expecting but that is what makes reading fun. I would highly recommend this YA trilogy that starts with "Stork."
