This Oct08 release is the trade paperback release of a 2003 original.
“Goddess of the Sea” is my first foray into P.C. The premise of the book is that on her 25th birthday CC is lonely and drunk and performs a ritual in which she asks the goddess of the earth, Gaea, to bring magic into her life. The result of this is that CC switches places with Gaea's mermaid daughter, Princess Undine. She is also sent back in time to about 1014 I believe. CC is allowed to return to land as a human (in Undine's very beautiful form) but she must return to the water and transform into a mermaid every 3 days. The only way to break

I expected this book to be a more adult version of The Little Mermaid, but there was a bit more to it than that.
CC was a sergeant in the USAF, despite her fear of flying (first off why would she choose a career which would definitely involve some flying even though she was petrified of it?! I certainly wouldn't!). On flying to a new position, her plane crashed in the middle of the ocean and just as she's pulled under the water, a mermaid appears and asks if she wants to swap bodies More...

As we travel through the Goddess Summoning Series , I'm finding it awesome as I not only have an enjoyable read but at the same time I am developing my Mythology as I go through the series learning all the different Greek Gods and Goddesses.
In Goddess of the Sea , we meet CC aka Christine , she is twenty-five years old and a Sergeant in the AirForce , the only downside is she hates flying. On the eve of her birthday which also happens to be Halloween , Christine is feeling down in the dump More...

Oh. This really took my breath away. I wasn't anything spectacular from P.C. Cast, since House of Night let me down. But this book was so heartbreakingly quaint, beautiful, and wonderful. IT WAS SO FUCKING HEARTBREAKING. I THOUGHT I WAS LET DOWN AT THE END. :C
What I loved the most was Dylan and CC.
HOLY SHIT. HOLY SHIT. OK. Their true love was described A THOUSAND TIMES BETTER THAN THAT OF LIKE TWILIGHT OR SOME SHIT LIKE THAT. Not saying Twilight is shit.

Bored, intoxicated and mildly depressed birthday girl CC decides to embrace her inner Goddess and perform a ritual honoring a Goddess from one of her numerous college texts. Loving being worshipped as a Goddess is wont to do Gaea notices CC decides to give her some blessings. It’s great that CC has this, she soon finds herself in a plane, crashing into ocean and drowning, only to be given a mer-body and a brother who wishes to rape her. Gaea’s chooses to save CC from her brother’s very c

Eh. I had some serious reservations about continuing this book past the first two chapters. The heroine, "CC" (short for Christine Canady, a sergeant in the Air Force who is afraid of flying), is just annoying. Actually, correction: The way the author writes her constant blathering to herself is annoying. Beyond annoying. More like bizarre. If that sounds small and petty, I challenge you to read the first chapter out loud, and think - really think, about whether or not you or anyone yo

Before reading this book, I was a bit hesitant. I have read the House of Night Series and most of the time P.C. Cast just pissed me off. But here everything is different. In "The Goddess Summoning Series", she definitely redeemed herself.
This book will absolutely render you speechless.
The story's plot was well sewn. And the omniscient third point of view gave the reader an insight to every character's feelings and traits.

Thanks goodness i was smart enough not to buy this piece of "literature", i'd really really regret my money, even if it was 5 cents..
I have a habit, either good or bad: I never give up books, no matter what a torture it can be to finish them. Perfect example of pure torture it was! After finally, finally scrolling the last page, i ended up with 2 thoughts in my mind:
~ There's never ever any book (and there can't be!) about mermaids, better than the "origina More...

Goddess of the Sea stars Christine Canaday (CC to everyone but her parents) , an Air Force Sergeant with a fear of flying. On her 25th birthday which her parents & her best-friend forgets, CC gets a bit tipsy on champagne & recites an invocation to bring magic into her life. The next day, weird things start happening but she brushes them off until the plane she is on crashing into the ocean. Is it magic?

First I'll mention again that Romance novels are really not my *thing* so forgive me if I'm a little harsh. Almost immediately I loved the main character Christine. Nomad, loner, and ordinary. I almost wished that I could read a regular 'day in the life of' book about her before the plane crash that started the events of the main plot. But I digress. Christine, or 'CC' is what really kept me going on this book. More than once I almost just put it down and walked away but I kept coming back. The

I read a rave review of another in this series by P.C. Cast and thought that elements of mythology + romance novel sounded like fun. And it would have been fun – without the one-dimensional characters, egregious errors about the time period, unnecessarily drawn-out scenes and a lot more telling than showing. Ugh.

Good book. Part of the Goddess Summoning Series. A mermaid (Undine) switches places with a mortal modern woman (CC) who is looking for something more than her lonely normal life. CC finds herself in a new and magical world where she finally finds the love she was looking for.

I love mermaids. I am willing to suspend a lot of realism in trade for reading stories about them. Let me also say that when I read this book, over ten years ago, I was very interested in female goddess worship, and nouveau pagan rituals. So for me, at that time, I enjoyed these books.
Glancing back over this one however, (and it is the one I remember as the weakest book--they do get better, though the formula remains the same) I know I would probably not be as interested in reading More...

I wanted a book with a pagan and mythological touch to it. My friend told me to read this book. I immediately got hooked to the Summoning Series by P.C. Cast.
This book was about a young woman, about my age, who led a very lonely, and drab lifestyle. She was a pilot in Air Force. One night, on her birthday, she decided to enact a spell, and on the following day, she felt pretty silly about that. She was summoned overseas and her plane crashed.

CC is an Air Force Sergeant who ends up in a plane crash while heading to Iraq. The plane explodes and CC is pulled under until she’s saved by Undine that leads to a body swapping. Chaos then ensues. The thing I liked about CC is that she takes everything in stride and she’s also witty and resourceful. She doesn’t allow herself much time to dwell on her problems; instead she shakes it off and starts searching for ways to fix them.

Summary: After her plane crashes into the sea, an Air Force Sergeant finds herself occupying the body of the mythic mermaid Undine--and falling for a sexy merman. -- JCPL Catalog

My sisters are always critizicing me because Im a bookworm, so when my younger sister brought me this book to read i was VERY skeptical.
I have to say the First 100 pages were really slow for me and felt like they dragged too much. But once you pass all that you are emerged in a facinating story of not only love but strugle, passion , survival, fear and sorrow. There were so many emotions going on that one moment i was overjoyed the next i was crying and then outraged.

I love this story! It's a modern fairy tale to its core. I love the strength of CC, and the various struggles that she goes through in the course of this book. I have had the thought that it might have been a bit refreshing for her to actually fail at something that she set her mind to! However, I suppose for that to have happened would have been to deny that CC was being watched over and assisted by Gaea. And why would Gaea let her favorite fail? Especially when CC had asked for her help?

I'm on the fence about this book. On the one hand, it was a creative retelling of the Little Mermaid story, the main character was sweet-natured and a little feisty, the mermaid sex was entertaining to read about, and P.C. Cast created a vivid world for us to play in. On the other hand, the dialogue was stilted, this book was the epitome of "telling" instead of "showing", and there were times when it was just so cheesy I kind of wanted to cringe. I wish (as everyone has at so

The concept was very interesting, so I would have liked a little more depth to the plot. The characterizations were predictable. CC was a modern woman sent back to an uneducated time. All the men of the past, except the love interest, were unenlightened, condescending or just plain woman hating. The women of the time were all abused, misunderstood and taken advantage of, but still loving and accepting of CC. Somehow it came across as a little "preachy" on woman power/strength and y

Goddess of the Sea was a book I picked up at a Barns and Noble on a whim and it turned into a desire to continue reading P.C Cast's books. I hadn't liked her series about vampires but after reading this book I was happily surprised. The story itself is entertaining with a lovable herione who knows what she wants and is caught in a wonderful sitiuation that does not let her get it. The handsome merman was definately a plus to this wonderfully written fantasy/romance. I hope others who like the ro
