Son of Destiny: A Short Story (Short Stories)
by
Kimberly Kinrade (Goodreads Author)
...My body shook in terror, arms reached out to save the child whom I could never save. Her arm hung at the wrong angle to her side. She cried, long blond hair clinging to her tear-streaked face. I lunged for her too late. Always too late. The earth opened up, swallowing her small frame whole.

Generally speaking I don't go much higher than three stars on shorts like Kimberly Kinrade's Son of Destiny, but please don't hold that against me, the author, or her work. My rating has more to do with my personal principles than anything else. I can't fathom giving this or really any short story the same rating I gave Victor Hugo's Les Miserables. It just doesn't factor in my head.
All the same I really enjoyed this piece....more

2.5 Stars. Nice little story line. I liked all the emotion and tiny bit of adventure in this. The magical part though caught me on a little. The Little People are neat and I'd like to see more of them. It's all a really quick story with a one not too surprising tragedy from the way things were headed. But Kian acts a bit too grown up at the end and it gets a bit confusing. There's not much of a build up or suspense but all those magical scenes are the best!
A very short read that leaves you wanting much more!! Set in Ireland, it's a story of a man, Kian, who has a supernatural power and and belongs to the Fae bloodline. His father wants him to act as an adult, get a job, and be useful while his mother wants him to fulfill his destiny. After going through a living nightmare, he makes up his mind on what his future will entail. I can't wait for this story to continue!
