I won’t lie; again it was the cover that first drew me into this book. It wasn’t the dazzling curiosity of a single decorated eye. No not for me. It was more like pure jealousy. The light brown color of the models compared to my ever so dark ones. In addition, not having read the synopsis the eyes also gave way to the recollection of a certain group of well fed vegetarian vampires. So my curiosity got the better of me and I had to give Palliata a new Indie author a try.

First, I was floored by the author’s dedication. Normally I would have even given this part an honorable mention. However this author has turned the table and I know will shock the most seasoned authors. The dedication is where the author dedicated the book the ones who mean the most to them. It is clear to me that this author has put every ounce of blood sweat and tears she has into this book. Jolyn Palliata goes when no other author I can recall has ever gone before she give a strong dedication saying and I quote;

“This book is dedicated to aspiring writers everywhere. Your dreams can be achieved.”

It actually inspires me to publish some of my doodling. However, being broke my dreams come at a limit as well as my lack of technique and writing skills to satisfy readers.

Fluster and filled with my own unfulfilled in my dreams I dove into Palliata first installment of the “Entwined Series”. Not knowing what to expect I read closely and kept my eyes peeled for the big reveal.

In the beginning I found myself a bit lost but once I got my footing it was smooth sailing. As the story progressed and fate stepped in I was shocked in the very first chapter. As the story developed I was in Chic-lit heaven. Then low and behold a new student emerges and let’s just say Lexi wasn’t the only one getting tingles. I could feel the excitement welling up within me at the prospects of a super- natural story line.

Palliata did an excellent job with keeping me engaged while only giving me enough information to keep me guessing but somehow never right. Until it reached the pivotal moment the reveal was not what I had expected. And the curve ball she tosses in the end has my jumping up and down begging for the second installment.

A must read Romance that carries across the bonds of time!

This was a good book. It is great for a romantic such as myself. I couldn't wait to turn the page to read what came next and I'm excited for the next book in the trilogy to come out!

The larger theme of this book is the presence of past lives; a manifestation of “old souls” in the literal sense of the words. In reading the story swirling around Lexi and Dex, you learn about a world where souls are connected in more intricate ways than you can imagine. A friend is more than a friend, it could be your father in a previous life, a sister, or a mother. The bonds that draw us together are forged over space and time, and some bonds are more eternal than others.

The bonds that draw us together are forged over space and time, and some bonds are more eternal than others.

The characters in the book were interesting, but not very complex given the storyline. Alexis "Lexi" Young is a 17-year old senior in school who is recovering from the death of her best friend the previous year. She is smart, knows what she wants in a boy, yet still has the endearing qualities of a young woman coming into her own, unsure of her looks, abilities and personal strengths. But then Dez comes into the picture and Lexi's world is turned upside down. Dez is a young man whom we don't learn very much about, but is portrayed as a strong, stable character who conveys reassurance and comfort.

I did not enjoy reading this book, despite my best intentions. Half-way through, I really was trying to get through it because I do not like to leave books half-read. The premise of the story was interesting, but it was portrayed confusingly. Prior to the big reveal, the story was maudlin and unnecessarily angst-ridden. Once I understood what was happening to Lexi, the story became tolerable, I wish we (the readers) were privy to the heart of the story sooner. I do not enjoy reading books where the main protagonist is in the dark about events that are unfolding. It fills me with unnecesary frustration and anger when main character is being fed pieces of the truth from everyone around. I did not fall in love with the characters, but I also feel I didn't get to know them as well as I would have liked to.

That being said, I am curious to know what happens to Lexi in the coming installments of the series and so I am looking forward to reading the next book. Author Jolyn Palliata's story concept is an intriguing one that appeals to me and I am curious to see where she takes it. (less)

Wow.... I loved this so much. I'm a complete sucker for romance, especially the whole 'soul mate' idea. So when I first saw this book, I knew instantly that I was going to love it - and I was right there!

Right from the start it drew me in, and I'm not exactly a patient reader. If a book doesn't grab my attention right away, that's it. I have an embarrassingly large number of books stored away on my kindle that I've only read the first 10% of - if that. But this was not one of those books. I'm no...more Wow.... I loved this so much. I'm a complete sucker for romance, especially the whole 'soul mate' idea. So when I first saw this book, I knew instantly that I was going to love it - and I was right there!

Right from the start it drew me in, and I'm not exactly a patient reader. If a book doesn't grab my attention right away, that's it. I have an embarrassingly large number of books stored away on my kindle that I've only read the first 10% of - if that. But this was not one of those books. I'm not going to go into what happens (I don't want to spoil the story for any people who've not read it yet) but I was soon staying up until way past midnight and getting up at 7am just so I could read it (yawn....)

The first 60% is pretty much pure fluffy, lovey-dovey romance. If that's not your thing, then this isn't really the book for you. But then, for the next 30%, I have to admit I did kinda get a little bored - not enough to put me off, but I felt like the plot just got a bit too slow for me and I was waiting for something important to happen. But, I stuck with it, and although the ending was a little rushed after this massive slow patch, I had to finish it after such a brilliant beginning. The cliffhanger was annoying (when isn't it??), but I can deal with it. I'm going to go check out the second book now and see if it takes my fancy, and if not, I'll just pretend it was the happy ending I wanted!

One of the best things about the book - and it's not often that I find myself saying this - was Lexi. It's almost scary how similar we are. I found that I could see where she was going with everything, I didn't get frustrated about any of the decisions she made, and I'm sure if I were in that situation I would behave in exactly the same way. I could really sympathise and understand her and that is part of what made reading this book so enjoyable for me.

So, if you love romance, then what are you waiting for? Buy the book now! If not, then I wouldn't really rely on the plot to pull you along. The whole soul idea is pretty clever, but when you strip it right down, this is a book about two soul mates falling in love (again).(less)

This is the second reincarnation book that I have read. I really enjoyed it. I thought that it was a really nice take on soul mates. This book is cute and will make you smile. I caught myself really rooting for Dez and Lexi. I quickly read the book in just one sitting. I didn't put it down once.

Lexi is so strong willed. I loved that about her and I feel like Dez should give her more credit sometimes. That was the only thing I would have changed about the book. It would have been nice to see him really trust her. I liked that he finally confided in her, but he didn’t really choose to do it- certain circumstances forced him into a confession. I wish it would have been because he wanted to share this with her. Lexi is strong and she was making such great progress. I felt like at times Dez held her back a little. Of course I could have also done with a little jealousy. Not anything annoying or overbearing, but maybe just a little interest from another guy to get Dez just a smidge shaken up. I’ll admit that in moderation, jealousy can be exciting. In books, that is. In real life I can do without it, but for whatever reason I like a reasonably jealous main guy. But too much turns me off. Dez was not jealous at all, and he was great. I just felt like something was missing from his character.

The story in Amber Eyes just kind of floats along. It was never too slow, and certainly not too fast. The conflict didn’t start until about half way into the book. That is a bit slow for me but I was loving the cute story so much that I barely even noticed until I was done and I started thinking about the book through my “review lens”. But boy, oh boy the conflict is going to be a good one. I loved how it set up the next book. It is going to be good. Enough questions were answered so you don’t feel like you are drowning in the unknown, but there is also some mystery to build on for the next book. The last 50 pages of the book are by far, my favorite. Which makes me think that I’m going to like the second book even more!

From the first chapter it drew me in. Lexi and Dez story of being eternal soul mates is a new twist to the saying “the eyes are the window to your soul”. Wow this book was AMAZING! The soulmate plot is always my favorite! If you like this book you need to read Significance by Shelly Crane. The author is very detailed, however this book was a bit too long-winded and the pace was too slow for my liking. That said, I really enjoyed the premise: soul mates and eternal souls.

Lexi and her friends pretty much act like regular teenagers, however they are fairly responsible (holding down jobs and attending school) and have a huge amount of autonomy. I was really excited to start this book and it was really good but there were a few things that kept it from being a 5 star review. I felt like it took a really long time to understand what was going on and what Dez was. I also didn't like how he was gone for such a long time and she didn't know where he was. Palliata did a phenomenal job with the writing. Everything seemed so realistic: from the look of Dez's eyes all the way to her memories. I absolutely loved the plot. This was one thing that kept me hooked on to this book. The plot was so surprisingly unique and I loved how Palliata had souls as part of the story. The way she described it made it so believable. Oh, but the way Lexi felt when (view spoiler) made me feel the grief and heartache that she had. For most of the book, I was so into the book that I felt as though I was Lexi. (view spoiler) Whenever Lexi''s heart skipped a beat, mine did as well; whenever her heartbeat increased from love or anguish, mine also; whenever her heart stopped from fear or shock, my heart did the same. The reason I gave this book a five star, basically, was that Lexi and I seemed to be the same people. I felt that I would do the same things she did during certain parts in the novel.
Anyways, let's move on to THE CHARACTERS! Britney was by far my favorite character beside from Lexi. She could easily understand things and she was a fabulous observer. I would never realize certain elements of the story that she did. I also loved Britney because she was a good friend. She was so nice to Lexi, that Lexi knew that she could tell her the truth about her and Dez. This made me love Brit more when she kept it a secret, but learned things on her own about what Lexi told her. Sydney, Lexi's other good friend, was a less important part in the novel, but still, I got to learn her personality. The only personality trait I didn't like about Sydney was that she could be a bit obnoxious and she wouldn't give up on persuading Lexi to tell her certain things. On the other hand, her peronality kept the story going and made sure that each person had their own, unique, personality. Jason, Dez and Lexi's friend and Britney's boyfriend, was pretty important during the end of the novel while Riley, Sydney's boyfriend didn't have as big a role. Dez, Lexi's boyfriend and (view spoiler) was very mysteroius in the beginning and I wasn't sure if I'd like him. But, once he told Lexi something important, he became what my dream boyfriend would be. And Lexi, the main character, is funny, while keeping a serious attiude. Also, when (view spoiler) she thought that he did that because he didn't love her anymore, which is probably what I would've thought too.
I absolutely loved Lexi's and Dez's moments together in the present and the memorie that they shared since decades ago. All in all, I give this book a five because it deserved it. Palliata did a fabulous job writing Amber Eyes and I'm waiting to hear the release date for Crimson Eyes, the sequel!(less)

Shelves: ya, series, paranormal, romance, series-r-us

This debut YA novel belongs in the Mature YA section if there is such a thing. I loved the topic of re-incarnation & entwined souls moving through the ages and the way it was handled. All four of the main characters were well used and played their parts well. As couples both Dez & Lexi and Jayson & Britney had chemistry in each combination. Shelves: ya-literature

To be fair my rating in based on frustration. This book sucked me in, then dragged me a long, then I thought it would end and it does....on a cliffhanger. I was under the mistaken impression that I was actually reading a self contained book.

Why is practically every YA book a part of a series/trilogy/etc.? What happened to stand alone books? Why can't anyone write those anymore? I probably won't read more just because I am so angry that there was no closure and I didn't even know to expect it.

I have to admit that I only continue with this book thanks to great reviews and recommendations. It took me a while to finish it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good book and I’m really interested in continue the series with Crimson Eyes and the sneak peek at the end of the kindle version, just fuels my interest.
