*Side Note: I waited two months for a five-star YA book in 2012, and I read two back-to-back!
I don't think it's a secret that I adored all three books in the River of Time series when I read them last year, considering I read them all in a week during the school semester. So when I saw that Bergren was going to self-publish a novella with what happens after the end of Torrent, I flipped. I've been waiting for Bourne for months, and thankfully, it didn't disappoint!

I was a little nervous to read this one, I was worried it wouldn't be as good as the trilogy. Once I started it though I realized I would not be disappointed. it was awesome, I loved it. I especially loved Luca and Lia, their banter is great. I love their sarcastic sides. I'm guessing the next book, Tributary, will focus more on Lia. I can't wait! As much as I love Gabi and especially Marcello, I kinda feel their story is done, not that I don't want to have them in future books, but I'm ready fo...more
Bourne is a little taste of a book, just a small glimpse into the events going down after Torrent's battle and Paratore's death. Its a hint of possibilities these richly complex characters are going to take and how much depth character development is going to become. I could break this all down and tell you about the writing, the drama and the voice of Lia, which was well done or the heated love story of Luca and Lia, but I really only want to talk about Lord Greco.......and this is where I thin...more

Picking up right where Torrent leaves off, Gabi and Lia find themselves awaiting the arrival of their men, Marcello and Luca, along with their armies and Lord Greco. War still rages on, danger is an ever present thing, and someone's life is on the brink of ending. With everything that goes on in this book, I love how Lisa is able to blend together her suspense, love, action and humor. It's one of the things I've come to love about her series. NOTE: You should read The River of Time Trilogy before reading this book. (WATERFALL, CASCADE, and TORRENT)
BOURNE starts right where TORRENT ends. Castello Forelli is dealing with the wounded from the battle. Gabi, instead of enjoying her first days as a bride, finds herself organizing the people of the castle in order to best help the wounded. She finds it difficult to keep her mind on her duties as Lady of the Castle since her own husband, Marcello, is severely wounded. Gabi and her family mus...more

Once again, I come to the end of a River of Time book, and all I can say is "Awesome, awesome, AWESOME!!!" From page one, Lisa Bergren's unique writing style captures my attention and takes me back to medieval Italy to once again experience an adventure with my favorite fictitious characters!
For those of you who weren't sure if Bergren could pull off another awesome, one-of-a-kind, pulse-pounding adventure in a third of the usual pages....she CAN!!! Bo...more

Fantastic! Another action packed Gem!! Lisa T. Bergren has created such an alluring world for her readers.
I love the action, suspense and the chemistry between the characters. I have grown so fond of her characters and feel a connection with them. It's truly magical when you feel completely immersed into a story. After reading Waterfall, Cascade, and Torrent, I knew without hesitation I had to read Bourne.

It just gets better and better. Loved this.
This time around we have alternating Gabi and Lia perspectives, and I really liked seeing things through Lia. My only complaint was that I felt her voice was a tad bit too similar to Gabi's. I liked it a bit more, as she was different enough. There just were occasions when she sounded similar enough that I forgot for a moment that I was reading Lia's account of events.
Still, I loved this story. Fabulous. Can't wait for the next book!

So lovely! I love that all the books in this series pick up the action right where it left of in the previous book. I'm so pleased to see some of this novella written from Lia's POV, I absolutely adore when we get another characters POV. Also, I'm so obsessed with Luca and Lia.
This just made me so excited for the 4th book!

The Deal: Gabriella, the new Lady Forelli is learning that even when you win the big battle, the war is far from over. Soon her new husband Marcello is fighting for his life; her sister Lia is feeling the stress and pressure of always having to be on high alert and of living in a world where men feel its perfectly okay to say "It's a guy thing" and keep the women in the dark.

I’ve read a lot of good, even great, series in my life. Books I haven’t wanted to read the last pages of, knowing I wouldn’t have the opportunity to adventure with the characters–my friends–anymore once the final chapter ended. These are really the best kinds of books–the ones where we get to go on more than one adventure with the characters, fight more than one bad guy, and fall in love more than once.

Recently I posted my review of Torrent and the River in Time trilogy in general. Bourne is a novella released in digital format only that directly follows the trilogy and focuses a little more on Lia than Gabby as the trilogy did.
I liked how Bourne managed to fit the tone of the trilogy and have just as much action and romance even though it was so much shorter. And while I liked getting the chance to see more of Lia and learn more about Luca and see the two together without it being filtered by...more

Oh. My. I. LOVE. This. Series!!! I cannot tell y'all that enough. This is my favorite series of all time. Everyone needs a book, even better when it's a series, that really resonates with them. These books have everything I love. The setting in the middle ages in Italy is beautiful. I love that the main characters are also modern because of the accidental time travel so I can really relate to Gabi and Lia when they think things in the Middle Ages are difficult, strange, or out of their comfort z...more
A read that’s easily devoured in a single sitting, Bourne is a treat for fans of The River of Time series, returning us to the Betarrinis for a brief but emotionally and physically intense visit before leaving us wanting more of everything from the characters and world we’ve come to care about so much. This novella gives a little something new in the form of Lia’s point of view, allowing us into the head of the younger Betarrini sister as she and Luca continue their romantically-tense dance, but...more
So, I wasn't crazy about this installment of The River of Time series. Bourne picks right up where Torrent left off, directly after the ending battle of the latter book. Unlike the first three books of this series, the point of view switches between Gabi and Lia....which is basically the only thing that saved it for me. In all honesty, I'm kinda getting sick of Gabi. When the series first started I really liked her; she felt real and relatable. Now I just wanna smack her upside the head.

I won the entire set of these books quite a while ago - but something happened in the mail and I never got them. I was disappointed - but ending up getting them on Kindle.
I have finished the entire series (including the bonus novellas) so I will stick to the general strengths and draws and not give away the plots.
This was perhaps my favorite of the three. The only thing I was disappointed in was that it was labeled the last of the series and I really wanted to continue and see what happened wit...more

Phew! This one was heavy, in terms of emotions. Sad, actually. I ended up crying so many times. It's like an eye-opener after all the previous books, showing the true and ghastly nature of battles and its aftermath. It just shook me up.
Not to say that there's no romance, banter or life lessons. But it's just a bit subtle and serious.
It was a bit unsettling to hear Lia's point of view as I had become accustomed to see it all from Gabs' eyes. It took me some time to shift between their respectiv...more

Knowing that this was a book from Lisa T. Bergren's River of Time series, I just knew this had to be good. And it was. It had the usual action, romance, and humor, told from the viewpoints of our two awesome female heroines. I was really happy with how Lia was featured so much more in this, and I have a feeling she'll have her own chapters in Tributary, too. It was fun to see Lia and Luca together. What I Loved
Uh, everything!
I've been eagerly awaiting this next chapter of the River of Time Series ever since I finished Torrent and realized that more was on the way! I was so excited when Lisa T. Bergren announced she was not only writing another book (Tributary) but that there would be an e-novella, too! (I was a little worried at first, since I don't have an e-reader, until I found out about the Kindle for PC app!)

Plot Sketch: Bourne, a novella in the River of Time series, picks up right where Torrent left off. We've never seen the sisters Bettarini react to a major battle, but in Bourne we get our chance. It's just a brief continuation of the story, a sort of bridge between Torrent and Tributary.
Verdict: I'm giving five stars for content because as always, it was totally squee-worthy. There were a few typographical errors in the Kindle edition I downloaded from Smashwords, but I'm not judging the story o...more

I absolutely adore The River of Time Series and was excited when I saw that there was an addition to the series. While Bourne is a short read, it is not short in any other way. There is no lack of storyline or emotion in this novella. In the moments where Gabi and Lia are tense or experiencing something strongly, I was right there with them, holding my breath. Bourne is not written as an afterthought, but the story contained within these few pages has a fully realized plot line. My only sadness...more

Usually as an author adds on to a series, the books seem to get less and less exciting. The first book is usually the amazing one and after that the author appears to be trying too hard. Bourne is number 3.1 in the River of Time Series by Lisa Bergren (being just a novella, hence the 0.1) and it is Bergren's best work yet! I'm not the only reader who feels this way. I finished Torrent wanting more so I snapped up Bourne and Tributary via Kindle as a PR reward for my recent half marathon.
While they were not the same, I still loved both, Bourne especially. I really appreciated that Lisa alternated the narration duties between Gabi and Lia. Prior to this, only Gabi's thoughts on the matter had been known. Still, Lia deserves her own full length novel. So much more can be told from her perspective.

As if Lisa's books couldn't get any better, now we get to see, live, through Lia's eyes! Oh, how I long for her and Luca to enjoy the same joys in marriage as Gabi and Marcello have... Lisa writes in such a way that you cannot put her books down. I almost fear starting another of her series because I will probably get hooked on them too.

I was delighted to find that Lisa Bergren wrote a novella that centered on the budding romance between Lia Betarrini and Luca Fortelli which up until now seemed little more than a flirtation. Again the story line deals with more than romance and adventure as the couple struggle against their Firenze captors, violent men sent to destroy the brotherhood. It sheds light on the evils of war; the taking of life even in combat and the growth of hatred because of it. It deals with self-sacrifice,the he...more
This series continues to get better with every installment. For those unfamiliar with the River of Time series, it is an incredibly well-written time travel/historical romance series set in Italy, primarily in 14th century Siena. Bourne picks up right where book 3 (Torrent) left off. While the context of the story remains the same - Siena and Firenze are still at war and all that it entails - what I liked most about this installment is that LTB is starting shift the focus from Marcello and Gabi...more

my thoughts in a few sentences: With all of our favorite elements from the first three books, Bourne is a well-welcomed addition to a series I am deeply in love with, so deeply in fact that the fall never ends. Reading about Lia, Luca, Marcello, Gabi, and crew again brought the warmest, widest smile I could physically muster on my face. While Torrent ends beautifully, it was brutally clear that not everything was resolved, and while I loved that...more

Love it! A great young adult read, that is neither too teenagy-girly nor too adult - perfect for a wide audience of readers.
I was glad when Lisa Bergren announced she would publish a novella e-book depicting what happens right after the end of "Torrent".
