Wow the emotions ran deep in this on y'all.
Honestly I was surprised a lot in this! Especially with Caleb and Hunter. And then the tid bits Cassie finds out about herself of Hunter, Caleb, and her own dad!
In the beginning I was shocked at how drawn into the story I was. How would you feel if you controlled other's fate but not your own? That was what Cassie had to deal with.

Honestly I was surprised a lot in this! Especially with Caleb and Hunter. And then the tid bits Cassie finds out about herself of Hunter, Caleb, and her own dad!
In the beginning I was shocked at how drawn into the story I was. How would you feel if you controlled other's fate but not your own? That was what Cassie had to deal with.
Ahhh Cassie (or Cassandra). At first I really liked her. Until her relationship with Hunter started. Honestly every time they got in a fight they ended up kissing or having some hot sex in a park. It made me soooo mad. But when they weren't fighting I thought they were kind of a good couple. Oh and the ending!!! DAMN when spoiler: (view spoiler)

I loved the entire book<3 Basically my emotions were put to the test, between hating, loving, then suspicion, then hate, then love, then hurt, more hurt, then pissed off, then loving and hateing at the same time. Whew! My mind is spent! I wonder if there is a book 2....

I was luckily enough to win a print copy of this book in a contest. It's cover is gorgeous and totally grabbed my attention. The beginning of the book was a bit hard to follow and was a little to overly descriptive about some of it's details. But once you get a few chapters in it started to flow as you start finding out a more about the major characters, and I have to say LJ kept me guessing. Guardian of Fate had me hooked within the first few lines. The steady pace of the novel kept me turning pages, and the ending left me right where it should: anxious for the second in the series. Demons and seekers, guardians and angels, heaven and hell - this urban fantasy explores places beyond this world with ease and finesse. Great read. This was a good read with a lot of twists and turns. The premise of a Guardian of Fate, someone that can actually protect you from an untimely death, is very clever.
I craved more of the storyline of the Guardian's actual job. To hear some more heartfelt stories of how Cassandra saves innocent people. I have a feeling there will be a second book and I hope to read more about Cassandra, Hunter and Caleb.

Guardian of Fate #1 has a good premise, a "Guardian" who has visions that allows her to intervene to save people from dying at the hands of demons. But there's not a lot of that in the story. The book is a paranormal romance, which is to say it's half paranormal stuff and half romance stuff. The romance bit doesn't feel all that romantic, and includes some explicit but well-written sex scenes.

I also felt that the romance parts were a bit repetitive, especially in the middle of the book. I probably would have liked the book better and rated it higher if some of the repetitive romance scenes had been cut and some additional paranormal scenes that expanded on the premise of the book had been added.

The main character, Cassie, came off to me as a pushover through most of the book; I did not see her as a strong female lead, but a young woman controlled almost completely by her hormones and unable to override them with her brains. (view spoiler)

To me, the experience of reading this book was like riding down the highway and seeing a car crash off the side of the road--you can't take your eyes away until you're past it. Once you're past it, though, you don't seek out another car crash to look at. So that's how it is here; Cassie is the car crash, a total train wreck. I've read her initial story, but I very likely will not be going back for more of the series.

In the author's defense, while I like reading paranormal fiction that includes a bit of romance, I am not a huge fan of paranormal romances that are so heavy into the romance part; if you are, Guardian of Fate might be a good read for you.

I thought about rating the book two stars (it was okay) instead of three (like it). But the premise of the story and the parts of the book that dealt with that is deserving of four or five stars, so I can't only give it two stars.(less)

But her life just got a lot more complicated. The Shadows have changed their ways of working and a new threat is targeting the humans in her visions. Worse, she has come to the attention of a different form of demon – and these Seekers don’t hunt humans, they hunt Guardians. And Cassandra, with her newly revealed ancestry and bloodline is a prime target for them.

Her life uprooted, she has to decide what to do – and which of the disturbingly attractive and oddly compelling new men in her life to trust all the while being hunted by demons and discovering that everyone around her was keeping secrets from her – including exactly what she is.

Let’s start with some of the problems I had with this book

I don’t particularly like Cassandra, the protagonist. She talks like a strong, independent woman and a decent protagonist – but she doesn’t act like one all the time. Part of that is the circumstances she’s in – her whole world has changed, everyone she knew was keeping secrets from her, she’s learned whole new things about her life, her family and even what she is and has had her life threatened on a regular basis. Given the circumstances, it’s reasonable for her to be a bit shocked and lost – so her crying, even fainting, and running around following other people’s plans are not bad things – but because I haven’t seen her in any other context yet, this is what I see. A woman who cries in emotional stress, isn’t very proactive and tends to follow other people’s plans and leads.

Her whole relationship with Hunter is fraught. From the very first moment they met, Hunter was pushy. And that quickly escalated from pushy to outright molestation – repeatedly touching her when she firmly said no. Putting his hand on her thigh, on her bottom, even undressing her when she fainted. He repeatedly forces kisses on her when she says no and in one memorable scene tries to force his tongue in her mouth while she firmly keeps her jaws closed.

And yes, she does say no and she does call him out on it not being ok – but still stays with him and doesn’t once aim a swift kick at the yin-yangs or even a slap across the face. And for every line there is with Cassandra saying “this is so out of line, how dare you” there are 10, 20, more talking about how hot and sexy he is, how his touch sends electricity through her and how amazingly gorgeous, compelling and yummy he is. And, of course, they do end up together and declaring their love for one another (after 3 days of acquaintance. And yes, I really do dislike that trope). This ends up making her protests about him constantly groping her seem less “how dare he, that’s pure arseholery, get me a restraining order and some pepper spray” and more “aha, feisty lady playing hard to get.” It’s another “no means keep pressing until she finally is swayed by your awesome masculinity, you stud you” moment. For that matter, I don’t understand why Cassandra so instantly and repeatedly trusts Hunter, even with her life and the lives of her friends and family.

Kentowski has created a very fun and intriguing new paranormal world, which is quite a thrilling, nonstop ride. There are crazy twists and turns, that make you unsure of who to trust or know what is the truth. Since the characters hid so much from each other in the book, including Cassie from people who could help her, it frustrated me a lot, which is the reason for 4 stars from me. Other wise it was a great read, and a quick one considering the 300 pages. Along with an intense journey Kentowski added some spicy love scenes. So if you're looking for a thrilling story with some sexy romance, this is a great choice. (less)

The beginning of this book scared me a little bit. For a small fraction of time, it started to read like Twilight. I am not saying that is a bad thing, but an authors worst fear is that their book will resemble another's too closely. After a short time though, this book was pleasantly surprising.

The Characters: I really enjoyed the characters. Cassie, although confused and seemingly naive in the beginning really comes into herself and embraces what she has to do in order to get through the mess she has found herself in. While being swayed by daemon magic and feelings of lust towards one hunk of a man, she fights to stay true to herself while falling fast and hard. Hunter and Caleb, I’m going to put these two together because they are both really appealing men. Sexy, swoon worthy and very impulsive. I found myself battling over who was the good guy, who was the bad guy and who I hoped Cassie would end up with. As much as I loved them both, at times I wished Cassie would have kicked them both in the nuts and said, ‘take a hike!’ But...I am very glad she didn’t!

The Plot: With so many twists and turns I was always left wondering, forcing me to read on and find out, what was Cassie going to do? Who should she trust? And just when I thought I had it figured, another turn of events left me, once again wondering! I love that in a story! Good versus Evil...but who is truly evil?!

The Writing: I enjoyed the writing style and found it to be a very easy read, just enough description and action to keep me flipping pages. There was a bit of unnecessary use of names within the dialogue that sometimes brought the story to a halt, but that being my only complaint, this is a great read!

Overall: I give this book 4 stars! Great plot, great characters and I can feel an amazing series coming from this! The end left me full of anticipation for the next book and I cannot wait to get my hands on it! (less)

After some light banter and flirting the door opens and in walks a man, the most gorgeous man Cassie has ever seen but there's one problem, He's been haunting her dreams for years.
Cassie gets a strong vibe that the two men know each other and can feel the hostility rising in the empty bar. Cassie takes her leave but not before the bartender Caleb, gives her his number and tries to persuade her into a date. These two men, Caleb and Hunter have plans that Cassie doesn't know about and they basically force themselves into her life. Some would think, hey two hot guys both wanting to be with me and that's what Cassie thought in the beginning but her perception of these Men quickly needs re evaluated, but who will she chose to trust and who will she run from?

This is truly a well written book that will grab your attention right from the beginning and not let go until the end. I find myself still thinking about this book days after I've read it! Fast paced, a love triangle gone wrong, and second guessing the Male characters. It so refreshing to find a Paranormal Romance that is like no other book out there. The ending you will not expect at all and it sets up perfect for book two in this series called Seeker of Fate due to come out sometime this Winter. (less)

Who can she trust? Well, apparently no one. It seems at every turn Cassie is finding out people are hiding something from her or just out right lying to her. Hunter and Caleb enter her life at the same time and they both want her, but neither are what they seem. Her room mate and best friend, Nora, has her own secret agenda and even Cassie's own mom seems to be keeping secrets. Every time another piece of the puzzle is revealed, I wanted to scream right along with her. Seems everyone thinks they know whats best for Cassie and it always involves hiding the truth from her. How are you supposed to fight for your life when no one will give you the answers you need? Cassie is determined to get her answers, even if it means giving up her life.

I do wish there had been a little more relationship building between Cassie and Hunter. Towards the end, Cassie finds out Hunter has been keeping a secret from her and she lashes out out him and hates him for it. While I understand her anger, I thought her reaction was over the top. Every one has been lying to her and she forgives them all and moves on. However she can't forgive Hunter, when he has done nothing but try to protect her and save her life and the lives of her mom and best friend?

The ending sets things up nicely for the next book. I look forward to reading how she plans to find her father and what she will do about Hunter.(less)

When I first started this book I was unsure of it. The beginning is a little slow and reads like Twilight almost. (Not that it's a bad thing, I am just sick of authors putting their twist on it hoping to make money!) However, I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. This is definitely one of those books where you spend a lot of the book trying to figure out what the heck is going on and who exactly is the good guy and who is the bad guy. That alone kept me reading this book for a long time....I couldn't figure out what was going on and was definitely intrigued.

L.J. Kentowski did a fabulous job writing this book. It was an absolutely great read and different from most of the things I have read, which was very refreshing. This book reached out and grabbed me from the opening pages and never let go. I read it in two sittings. Surprising, because overall I tend to favor third person POV when I read a book. It could be the voice of the central character, Cassandra Cosgrove, a 'Guardian of Fate' who finds it her responsibility to save souls from Hell, or it could be the author's high-octane flow for the story that made it hard to put down. This book was a phenomenal start to a series. I can really see a lot of promise in the books that will come after this one. The characters of Cassandra, Caleb and Hunter were all well illustrated and excellently formed. Guardian of Fate is such a breath of fresh air, it has such a different storyline than everything out there at the minute. It is beautifully written and I fell in love with the characters quite early on. There is a roller coaster ride of emotions throughout which kept me on the edge of my seat.

Cassandra (Cassie) is a Guardian of Fate, she gets visions of mortals that are in danger from the Demons of hell. It's her responsibility to change their fate and keep them alive. Cassie has been doing this for quite some time with not to many problems but when her visions start to change, strange things start to happen.

Cassie meets two men in a bar called, Caleb and Hunter, One of whom is too familiar. He just so happens to be the mysterious stranger from her strange reoccurring dreams. Both men insert themselves in Cassie's life, but they are not who they say they are. Cassie knows something is not quite right from the off.

Cassie finds herself in the middle of an age old battle of good Vs evil, but her soul will be the one to tip the balance if swayed. Cassie is not who she thought she was either and she discovers so many shocking revelations about herself. She has spent a good part of her life changing other peoples fates for the better, but she never thought it would be her fate that would need changing. Who can she possibly trust to be her Guardian of Fate?

The ending had a very unexpected outcome, which has now left me dying to get my hands on the next instalment. Guardian of Fate is full of twists & turns, had lots of action and not forgetting some steamy love scenes. L.J. Kentowski is on to a winner with this amazing new series.

My favourite characters were the main ones:

Cassie - She is a great friend & daughter, she is intelligent, funny, strong and very interesting to read about. I can't wait to see how her unexpected talents develop.

Hunter - I love this guy, he is powerful, tough, mysterious, speaks his mind and did I mention HOT?? I hope we get lots more Hunter action in future books.

If you read fantasy to participate, however vicariously, in the battle of good against evil, you'll love the adventure. Whatever your preference, you'll never regret meeting Cassie as she seeks to learn just how complication life can be even for a Guardian!
