A nice little story, but I doubt it will stand out in my memory

PROS:
- The characterization is solid right from the start. Myles creates a picture of her main guys quickly, with just a few descriptive phrases: “if there was anything Felix didn’t know about charming gay and bi-curious men it could probably be written on a condom packet with space to spare for a few smutty drawings.”
- The environment (fashion/art school) serves as a fun backdrop for the story, and there’s enough detail to create an interesting setting without putting the reader into overload.
- I love seeing arrogant men come up against people who aren’t impressed by their physical beauty and who make them work to be noticed. Andrew’s (external) resistance to Felix’s attitude endeared him to me immediately.
- The descriptions of the performance art pieces that Felix and his classmates come up with both amused and disgusted me, much like performance art in real life does. So Myles did well there.

CONS:
- The setup here--fashion student has to get his model nearly naked in order to measure him for clothing--provides a convenient reason for throwing the guys into close quarters so that sexual tension has a chance to build up nice and slow. Unfortunately, though, the sense of anticipation I had just started to enjoy on that front is ruined by the fact that they’re going after it only a few pages later. I was disappointed all-around on the sex front, in fact: I wanted Andrew to wait, at least until Felix had shown that he’s capable of being a person rather than just a walking sex organ.
- I found Felix annoying at times (and not in an endearing way), like when he can’t seem to talk about anything that doesn’t involve sex, and when he refers to Andrew as “Andy-baby” even after being told multiple times that Andrew doesn’t like it.

Overall comments: I liked this okay, but the bedroom scenes were a bit too numerous for my taste given how relatively short the story is overall. If you like a healthy dose of sex in your reading, this one might be right up your alley. I wouldn’t say that the story is ALL about the sex, but I’d say it’s right on the line.(less)

Full disclosure: I received this book for free in exchange for some volunteer editing I did for a project the author is working on. Pretty sure I would have liked it just as much if I'd paid for it.

Both of the main characters were interesting people in their own right, and not two people you would immediately picture as being together. That's one thing I like about Josephine's books: that intersection of individuals with two completely different perspectives on life.

I have to admit, I wasn't too sure when I first started this book because I didn't really warm to Felix at first. He's the sort of guy who usually turns me off: over confident, secure in his attractiveness and determined to get what he wants no matter the cost. In contrast, Andrew was a complete gem: quiet, studious, and saving himself for the 'Mr Right'. It wasn't long though before I realised that they worked really well as a couple. Felix may have been around the block a few times but his outrageous flirtation is just was Andrew needs to be drawn out of the protective walls he's thrown around himself. He doesn't need a shy virgin like himself, he needs someone with experience who can encourage him and show him to ropes. That's what he gets with Felix. The scenes between them zing with sexual tension and I particularly loved the scene where Andrew is measuring Felix for a suit, whilst desperately trying to ignore the longing coursing through his body.

The relationship moves quickly, but it's clear that it's more than just sex. There's a sense of 'rightness' between them in the way their friendship grows, shown not only in how happy Andrew feels, but also in Felix's confusion over his changing feelings about the situation with his tutor. Of course, being men they are both stubbornly thick headed when it comes to recognising what a good thing they have. This led to a vaguely annoying, but thankful short lived, forced separation. Misunderstandings are never my favourite of story lines but this one wasn't so badly done. I could see that there needed to be a catalyst for the men to see what was in front of their eyes and as such I forgave the way the story was worked out towards the end. I also liked that, despite the novella format, we get a number of brief insights into the past of these characters and how it shapes them as young men.

Another thing I liked about the book was the way it poked gentle fun at conceptual art. There are a few references in the story to crazy stunts all done in the name of art and in particular, Felix's role in these. This made me smile a lot, but was also nicely contrasted by Felix's real passion which was for fine art and the regret he feels that he can't pursue that more on the art course. This all ties in with the Bath setting which is brought into the book in bits and pieces. I liked that Felix was so in love with the city and that it showed through scenes as simple as looking out of his window.

Overall. I really liked Tailor Made. The author took quite an unusual setting and a pair of likeable characters, and turned them into a heartwarming romance with a slight bite of satire which left me with a smile on my face. (less)

Josephine Myles has a way of taking characters, who at first blush for me seem rather annoying and obnoxious and then making me fall in love with them. Felix is that characters. He’s brash, uses offers of sex to get what he wants and doesn’t make any bones about it. Felix is that characters. He’s brash, uses offers of sex to get what he wants and doesn’t make any bones about it. When he tries to strike a deal with fashion design student Andrew, he figures sex is a great exchange for a suit he can use for one of his wacky fine arts final projects. He’s a bit taken aback by the fact that Andrew doesn’t really take him up on the deal. However when Andrew’s model for the final fashion show drops out, he asks Felix to act as substitute model in exchange for the suit he wants.

Andrew is a mystery to Felix. He doesn’t drink, smoke and he’s a virgin. However Felix has more of an effect on Andrew than he’d like to admit. Andrew is holding out for my Right, not Mr. Right here in front of me. Despite being attracted to Andrew, when Felix finds out he’s a Catholic he remains determined to avoid any entanglements. That’s where the author starts letting you see those little glimpses of the real person who you could really like, and not just the slightly jerky exterior.

I loved the whole rather mocking look, from Felix himself, of that modern art trend of throwing rotten eggs at a car and calling it art or putting dead piglets in a jar of oil. You know the type. It’s fun to see that environment from the inside, including Felix’s super-snobby tutor who he’s been desperately trying to hook up with and wants to impress. The author knows her fabrics and sewing, that is clear, but details didn’t overwhelm the story, just enough to make it interesting even if you know nothing about clothing construction.

So this is an absolutely charming read, and yes, they have a little tiff and there is a misunderstanding of sorts, but I always try to remember when reading stories about people in university or college, they are young and stupid, like we all were and I can’t hold them to the same level of logic as an old lady like me. Thankfully it doesn’t take them long to work it all out. There was also some lovely descriptions of the city of Bath, which I’ve never visited but by the sounds of the hills, maybe I’d better be in better shape before I do.

A really appealing story with evidence of the author’s humour which had me laughing out loud at one point. At poor Andrew’s expense. I highly recommend this one.

Art student Felix McAvoy needs the perfect piece to impress his tutor, so he decides to have a suit made out of canvas he can use in an outrageous display. Felix is quite the party boy and used to being able to seduce guys into getting what he wants, so he figures he'll have no trouble convincing straight-laced design student Andrew Wheeler to create one for him. Despite Felix shaking his ass at Andrew and flirting outrageously, Andrew initially resists his charms. However, when Andrew finds he needs a model for his final project, the guys work out a deal: Andrew will create the canvas suit for Felix in exchange for Felix modeling the final product for Andrew's runway show.

Despite resisting Felix during their initial meeting, Andrew definitely takes notice of the gorgeous flirt and can't stop thinking about him. Andrew is determined to wait for Mr. Right before getting sexually involved with anyone, but Felix tempts him like crazy and he is shocked to find himself initiating things one night during a fitting. Each step along the way, Andrew convinces himself this is just a dry run for when he finds the real thing. And Felix doesn't do real relationships. But soon enough things are getting serious between the two men, although neither one can quite admit it. Despite their different personalities and experiences, the guys both realize they want to make it work.

Ok, so right off those of you who read my reviews a lot know this is going to push all my buttons. Virgin hero and party boy slut? Oh, yes please! With some opposites attract thrown in? Definitely. I loved poor Andrew trying to resist Felix's worldly charms (especially when we learn the poor guy has been practicing blow jobs on bananas!).

But what I really loved about this book are the fabulous characters and the growth each man goes through during the story. Andrew is the more conservative one (despite his sexy little clothing kink). He starts off determined to wait for the perfect man and Felix doesn't fit the image in his mind. It is interesting to me because although Felix starts out looking to use Andrew for his tailoring skills, Andrew in many ways is using Felix too. Not just as a model, but almost as a dry run for the future man in his mind. He is totally attracted to Felix despite himself, so he figures he will just gain some experience so he is ready when the real thing shows up.

I loved the parallels here with the suits Andrew is making. The one he is giving Felix is the practice suit, the one he prepares before doing the final product to get all the details perfected for the real thing. And in Andrew's mind, the relationship with Felix starts out as the same thing: the practice relationship before the right guy comes along. So I just loved watching Andrew realize that Felix is really exactly what he wants and might just be the perfect guy for him after all.

But the character I really loved was Felix. There were so many interesting layers to him beyond the flirtatious guy and outrageous art student. First, I loved how sensitive and tender he is with Andrew once he realizes Andrew is a virgin. Felix makes a real effort to make sure Andrew is comfortable and to reassure him when Andrew worries about his inexperience. Despite Felix's outrageous art projects, we learn that what he really wants to do is simple painting and drawing, but he felt forced into the more crazy art stunts because that is what his teachers demanded. And that he chose the school in Bath because the beautiful scenery reminded him of home on the farm. Felix is just such an interesting guy and I loved watching him come to realize that what he really wants out of life is totally different than the direction he is headed, and that he was brave enough to make a change to get what he really wants.

Tailor Made was a sweet and super hot story with really great characters. I think Myles does a fabulous job in her writing creating really layered characters that show a lot of growth and change throughout their stories, and Felix and Andrew were no exception. I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it.(less)

LOVED this story! I was pretty sure it would somehow have an HEA but couldn't predict the path to it. Great character development. Watching both Felix and Andrew grow, in different ways, was the point of the story. I wanted to throttle one character and loved it when that character got a well-deserved comeupance. In order to do this, though, he needs someone who can sew him a very special suit. Luckily for him, he knows just who to ask.

Its Andrew Wheeler’s first year at college. He hasn’t met Felix before, but Felix’s reputation of sleeping around and being known for his crazy art precedes him. Andrew is content staying as far away from Felix as possible. He’s saving himself for Mr. Right and wants nothing to do with someone who could only be Mr. Right-now. So, when Felix approaches Andrew and explains what he needs and what his final art project will depict, Andrew has no problems saying that he is not interested.

But when Andrew learns that his model has been called home for a family emergency, he’s left with limited options this late in the year. Andrew finds that he may need Felix after all. He approaches Felix and tells him that he’ll make his canvas suit, but in return he’ll need Felix to model his final project. Felix agrees. This is certainly no hardship as Felix is very much looking forward to spending as much time as he can with Andrew.

What follows is a very humorous ride as Felix and Andrew navigate their relationship. Felix is hilarious. He knows he’s hot, he’s been around and he makes no apologies for it. He certainly likes to push the limit and see where he lands! He is an obvious flirt and when his presumption that Andrew would just fall at his feet fails, he’s a bit stumped. When he learns why Andrew hesitates, he doesn’t slow down one bit. Andrew really just can’t stop himself from giving in to Felix when he is right there for the taking, but he’s keeping it real, telling himself that he should just enjoy it for what it is. When the projects are completed Felix will move on, as he will. So Andrew approaches it more as a learning experience.

Of course, relationships like this are rarely as clear as they seem as both men experience feelings that they were totally unprepared for and that they refuse to acknowledge until it is almost too late.

Initially, I thought Andrew gave in too easily to Felix’s advances. Considering his very strong feelings about relationships and wanting his experience to be meaningful, not just sex, I admit being a bit disappointed that Andrew and Felix’s first encounter happened so quickly. As the story progresses, though, we see a different side of Felix, one that only comes out when he is alone with Andrew. As these characters spend more time together we see much them change, especially where Felix is concerned. Felix endeared himself to me in the end.

I absolutely adored the author’s use of art in this story to parallel the personalities and character growth of both Andrew and Felix; Andrew, the tailor who is quite conservative and Felix whose questionable art is at times as crazy as he is. However, as the story progresses, Andrew’s focus on all the special little details he adds to the suit in spite of the fact that he knows full well what Felix plans to do with it for his final project mirrored his strength of feelings for Felix. With Felix, his feelings come through strongly in the sketches he does of Andrew as well.

I really enjoyed this story and was impressed by everything the author was able to convey in a novella length story.

A very entertaining and sweet short novel about an aspiring art student and a down to earth fashion student. Felix, the artist, is a party boy and only looking for the next lay, with a crush on one of his professors, when he meets Andrew whose help he needs for a project. Andrew is rational and somewhat shy, but very intrigued by the experienced Felix. Both characters are very likable and though the whort length of the novel it is NOT insta-love - high five for that!

3.5 stars. Excellent short romance about a bad guy reformed by love. Felix McAvoy is an inrrepressibly slutty and worldly art student who needs to create a cutting edge artwork for his attractive professor. He turns to the honourable, virginal, fashion student Andrew to make him a suit which will be the canvas for his work. But Andrew's inexperience and intensity are more appealing than Felix expected and he finds himself reconsidering his beliefs. Lovely setting and really appealing couple.

fun and mostly fluffy read, just what I needed. Enough plot to make it interesting, nice characters - which were stereotypes, but I guess that's been done on purpose here. And the sex scenes were actually not bad either.

So much better than the last M/M romance stories I've read, I was close to give up on them and go back to fanfiction, but this one has restored my faith in authors and editors in this genre

I really enjoyed this. There was a rich vein of humour that kept me chuckling all the way through. Felix was so cocky and full of himself, but managed not to stray into arrogance, while Andrew started off so straight-laced, gradually loosening up under Felix's subversive influence. Saul was deliciously loathesome and I was delighted to see him get his comeuppance at the end.

Gosh, I really didn't like Felix, he was superficial and bad. His motto was, I will get it even if being a slut in the eye of the world, was the key. He played the slutty part well and I didn't like his personality. But then the Andrew was thinking with his little head and I guess that's love at the end. The little guy talks. This wasn't story for my taste.

This book was the perfect little read. Sexy fun characters that I became attached to despite the number of pages (83) in this story. I love reading about a slut who finds his man. This book had me laughing and left me feeling pretty damn good. I'd love to read another story with Andrew and Felix :-D

This was a cute, comfortable read. It was very light and predictable, but that was exactly what I was in the mood for today. I enjoyed this contemporary m/m novella. The focus was on the characters, with little else in the way of plot, but it worked for me as a quick read. Sweet and sexy with very appealing MCs..

loved the relationship between Felix and Andrew, the way it grew surprising both of them, especially Felix. hadn't read a college romance in a while, and really enjoyed this one.

Another good read from Jo Myles, if you like her quirky humour and style, you'll like this one too.
A tale of two university students who trade modelling favours - of different varieties. Felix is flamboyant, Andrew is more contained, waiting for Mr Right.
As expected, the story contains lots of humourous situations. Felix and Andrew develop their relationship, have some bumps in the road and it all comes right in the end!
