This e-novella is $2.99 and is from one of my all time favorite authors, Meljean Brook. Mina Wentworth and the Invisible City (Iron Seas #1.5) was originally in the back of mass-market version of The Iron Duke, which I had no idea about. The Iron Duke blew my ever loving mind out of the water (you can read my review here) and based on reading The Iron Duke, no other book I’ve read can come close to The Iron Duke in regards to Steampunk. Every other Steampunk type book I’ve read since The Iron Du...more

And so my steampunk marathon continues. Surprisingly enough, I liked this companion novella more than I liked the book itself. But both are pretty awesome.

Gosh, this had me squealing like the fan girl I seem to have become overnight. Or rather over just a few daylight hours of reading. No matter. Mina Wentworth and the Invisible City is a novella, though not too short thankfully, that details the marriage of Mina and Rhys alongside the everyday troubles they face. Honestly, I love reading about the long haul to make a marriage work just as much as I love reading about the journey to finding "The One" and although this book doesn't...more

Of course it’s a five stars novella! What did you expect? It’s a novella with Mina and the Iron Duke and it’s impossible not to be amazing!

This story takes place about eight months after the events of the “Iron Duke” and we can see the main characters, married now, having some problems. What problems? Well, they love each other very much and Rhys is always afraid for Mina. He thinks that she will get hurt and he can’t stand it. But, so is Mina. She’s always afraid of losing him. But they don’t t...more

First let me say that this could be read as a stand alone because a crime is solved by the end of the story. Ms. Brook does a nice job of slipping in Rhys and Mina's backstory a little at a time throughout the story so a new reader won't be completely lost. For fans of the series it's a MUST read. I love the other stories in the series, but Rhys and Mina will always be my favorite. There is something about the two of them that tugs at my heart, plus I love how smart and capable they both are.

4.5 stars - I loved Meljean Brook's THE IRON DUKE for her amazing steampunk alternate London, but while I really liked the leads, Inspector Mina Wentworth and Rhys, their story in the THE IRON DUKE - unlike almost everything else of Brook's - wasn't terribly romantic. Well this short set 8 month into their happily ever IS romantic and in some ways sweet - the pair truly care for each other, but both have good reason to fear for losing the one they love since Mina's job is dangerous and Rhys' lif...more

The Invisible City is a lovely epilogue, yet completely stand alone novella, to the first book in Ms. Brook’s Iron Seas series, The Iron Duke. Newcomers to this marvelous series could read and enjoy this story, but it is a real treat to fans of Mina and Rhys... seeing them in action after they’ve been married for a few months.

The story centers around the daily lives of newly married cou...more

Was this great or what?! (oh yea, some of you probably haven't read it yet!)

Mina Wentworth and the Invisible City (Iron Seas #1.5) is a great continuation of the couple from the first book(Iron Duke): Mina Wentworth and the Iron Duke himself!

ABOUT the PLOT/STORY: 5/5 stars
It takes place 8 months after Iron Duke finished and catch up with our main characters. A big element of the story is the crechés, where the orphaned children of London live. A crime is being investigated by Mina and relationsh...more

I totally loved this instalment! The novella is set 8 months later with both Mina and Rhys are settling down and adjusting to married life. A problematic case crops up when a murder of a factory owner happens and Mina with the help of Rhys have to discover who is behind it. This was such a fantastic story, and I loved the development of the romance with Rhys and Mina who are so deeply in love but worried for each other especially about Mina's job and the danger it can present. But Rhys is willin...more

If I could give this novella 10 stars I would! This story is meant to be the epilogue for The Iron Duke. Mina and Rhys have been married 8 months and are growing deeper in love every day. Love is a new concept for Rhys. He was raised without parents and has lived a very hard life before he met Mina. Now he suddenly finds himself sweating bullets every day, terrified for Mina's safety in her job as a police inspector, terrified of pushing her away by smothering her. Add in a case of murder that i...more

Mina Wentworth and The Invinsible City is a novella for the first Iron Seas series that was a continuation to Detective Inspector Mina's story and her marriage with formidable Rhys "Iron Duke" Trahearn. Months after her incident and marriage with Rhys, Mina was still ever in love with the Iron Duke despite his constant worries with the dangers her career entails. Like what a married spouse to a cop would feel, Rhys is still struggling with his protective instinct while being supportive to his wi...more

This novella is set in the Iron Duke world of Ms Brook's. In this, its been 8 months since Mina and the Duke married. They are still adjusting to each other, and the tension caused by their respective jobs. The "mystery" portion of this story is provided partially by Anne, their adopted 11 year old daughter and partially by the murder of a "bounder" (which in this series doesn't have exactly the same meaning as it does in our world. In the Iron Duke world, it refers to those who "bounded out of...more

This novella serves as an epilogue to The Iron Duke, and if you read and enjoyed that book you should definitely read this. If you did not read The Iron Duke, don't start here.

Ostensibly this story is about the murder of an aristocratic Bounder with a political agenda. I liked the investigation and the peek into the economic and political tensions in post-Horde London, a facet of the Iron Seas world we did not get to see much of in book 1. Identifying the "bad guy" happened a bit too easily fo...more

This is a novella featuring Mina and Rhys fromThe Iron Duke. It's a nice sort of epilogue/mystery. I enjoyed revisiting this world before I read Heart of Steel, which was my purpose in reading this novella--I wanted to remind myself about the world of this series. Riveted is going to be released soon, and I want to read it right away.

I don't care for novellas. The stories are a bit too superficial for my liking. I also don't care for the mystery/suspense plots that are often tagged onto romances...more

A good novella with Rhys and Mina. I like that the author revisted their characters and I hope she does so again in the future. I've haven't read the other books in the series yet, but I think these two will be my favorite.

Taking place about 8 months after the events of the Iron Duke we get to see what married life has been like for Rhys and Mina and how each is coping with having to deal with the certain dangers of the other's job.

Even though this is just a quick short read, Meljean Brook doe...more

I was glad to enjoy more of Mina and Rhys' story, but I feel like this would have been a better ending to the original novel instead of an added adventure. It felt rushed and focused so much on their relationship it didn't feel true to balance of romance and adventure that the original story had.

Definitely worth the read (especially since this is really a more satisfying ending to the story of Mina and Rhys), and I can't wait to enjoy the next full length book in the series, though I'll probabl...more

This novella was published in the MMP edition of The Iron Duke that I read. I read it immediately following completion of the novel and I really enjoyed it.

The novella takes place 8 months after the marriage of Mina and Rhys and revolves around the emotions they are both feeling as they adjust to family life. The novella was more romantically driven than the novel and I think it made for a much better ending to their story than the somewhat abrupt ending of the novel. It also delves into some mu...more

As much as I enjoyed The Iron Duke this short epilogue-ish story featuring Mina and Rhys sort of... bored me. It was nice to check in with those two and see how they've been progressing since the end of their book, but the plot concerning a rolling death machine did not hold my interest at all. Even though I didn't find this story all that thrilling, I didn't regret reading it. Scarsdale, Rhys friend, is forced to make some serious decisions here and has a little character development that made...more

I didn`t really enjoy this book, but read it all the same since it got Mina and The Iron Duke in it. I don`t know what eactly I was hoping to find in this book, but it wasn`t what I stumble upon and I was really dissapointed. It just rubs me wrong hos the Iron Duke acts.

This story takes place about eight months after the events of the “Iron Duke” and we can see the main characters, married now, having some problems. What problems? Well, they love each other very much and Rhys is always afraid fo...more

Simply could not wait to read this! Rhys and Mina simply captivated me in The Iron Duke. So this ebook was like being reunited with fond, special friends!

This takes place eight months after The Iron Duke. It also shows how well both Rhys and Mina fell into marriage. Their routines. Rhys’s dealing with his wife’s profession. The whole entire works.

So wonderful to see familiar characters again like Anne, Scarsdale (gotta love that guy), Mina’s parents, and Mina’s partner – blushing and all. Rea...more

!!!! EEEEE!!!! And other incoherent exclamations. To say I adored The Iron Duke would be a huge understatement - part romance, part steampunk adventure, this book is in my Top 10 romances of all time, and a very rare romance I'd rec to non-romance lovers. So the chance to see Mina and Rhys again = heaven. There is a murder investigation and other good things but I confess I read to see glimpses into Mina and Rhys' married life and it's every bit as interesting and intense and complicated as I ex...more

I liked this epilogue/novella about Rhys and Mina. I particularly enjoyed the fact that as they adjust to marriage and work through fears, they have taken the time to form their own little family with Anne the Tinker. Still, Scarsdale is the most memorable character in this short story with his unbearable situation. It is heartbreaking, and I'm hoping that Brook finds a great resolution for him. I also wonder if the storyline used as part of the mystery in this short about children...more

This is a very nice continuation of the first Iron Duke book, with a self-contained mystery plot included in the further examination of what it is like when Rhys and Mina are married. It also puts a spotlight on Rhys' friend, Scarsdale - he really needs his own novella or novel.

And I loved that Mina decided to take that young girl who helped her in the Iron Duke under her wing and basically become her family. This is very much a Mina story. Rhys is there, but only as support or foil or sexual ob...more

"Mina Wentworth and the Invisible City" takes place shortly after "The Iron Duke." Mina dn Rhys have now been married eight months and are basking in the afterglow of their love. However, each day as Mina heads off to work as a homicide detective, Rhys is frantic with worry. These emotions are new to him and Mina is at a loss to figure out how to help him adjust.

Additionally, Mina and Rhys have grown to love the Tinker, Anne. After she sends two grams indicating she will not be home, Mina is wor...more

B Originally included free in the MMP version of The Iron Duke, for those of us who bought the trade paperback or were able to get it as an ebook, it is now available as an eSpecial from Penguin. Set 8 months after The Iron Duke, Rhys is having difficulty coming to grips with his fear for Mina as she investigates murder and both of them are learning about family and how to parent Anne the Tinker....more

I remember thinking at the end of The Iron Duke that Mina and Rhy's story seemed so complete that I wasn't sure where the author was going with the series. Then I realised that the Iron Seas was one of those series that followed a different protagonist with each book, that was a bit of a relief.

Even thinking that it was a bit of guilty pleasure to be able to read another novel involving these characters again, the chemistry between the pair feels much more believable now and even though it has...more

Rhys is finishing up preparations for a ball next week. Detective Inspector Mina looks forward to an evening with her husband of eight glorious months, although not telling him about the shiny bruise she got at work as he worries. When suddenly she gets called away due to a murder of an associate who wants to reward factories for not completely converting to machines. Things run deeper than expected with this investigation and mystery. Mina learns new things of her new husband, and one thing she...more

As a continuation of my very favorite of Meljean Brook's books - The Iron Duke - this was awesome! It had been awhile since I read The Iron Duke, and I was not as in love with the second book in the series, but this novella took me right back to where I was at the end of the first book - absolutely enamored of Mina and Rhys and their London, their story. I have to say so much of the appeal is really Mina. She is strong, smart, caring - just really well drawn. It's a testament to Brook how easily...more

If you enjoyed Mina and Rhys in The Iron Duke, you will really enjoy them here. It's been eight months since they married and we get to see how married life is treating them. Of course, there is a case for Mina to solve as well.

I just got such a kick out of Rhys and Mina in this novella. Rhys is having a hard time dealing with the possibility of Mina getting hurt on the job and it doesn't help that the newssheets exaggerate everything. Since Rhys has never really loved anyone before, he has suc...more
