Intriguing. I had doubts at first but like my primary schooler, was soon flipping the pages to see where this curious account of a wild child, the last of her kind was leading to. The ironic twist at the end is a lovely cautionary reminder to us all, probably least of which children, to stay young at heart and enjoy the freedom of youth for as long as possible. Viva la childhood!

In the wild lives a child, she lives all alone. She is the last of her kind and the earth is her home. Other children lived there once, but they were all taken away. Made to stop and sit still, made to behave and to stay. But one child in the wild is still free to be, never tamed and held back, she is happy and free.

Wild Child is curious, adventurous and brave. Enter her world and you'll want to stay. She lives in a world filled with nature, beauty and fun. She'll make you want to play, skip, ho

Jeanne Willis has written some of my favourite picture books for children. Wild Child is illustrated by Lorna Freytag in a radically different style to those. The surreal photographs produce an eerie effect. The story is perhaps not as captivating as some of her others but I love the idea of the wild child as an endangered species and there is a lovely rhythm and simplicity to the words which allows the visual enough room too.

My two-year-old daughter adores this book and can finish the end of every couplet. We got it from the library but I will be buying it because she wants to read it every night. It is clever, original and beautiful with a lovely sentiment about kids being allowed to be kids. I can't recommend it more highly.

Sophisticated picture book. Glorious illustrations. Celebrating the connection of people with the earth, sky, flora and fauna. Whimsical but would be easy to use to make a connection with many different themes. Adorable.

Other than the beautiful photography to accompany this book, I feel this has very little to offer to both children and adults.
