Postcard-perfect Jar Island is the kind of place where nobody locks their doors at night, where parents can sleep easy, knowing their daughters are tucked away safe and sound in their beds.

But bad things can happen, even to good girls . . . and sometimes, the only way to make things right is to do something wrong.

Lillia used to trust boys, but not anymore. Not after what...more

Technically, I'm not supposed to like this book. There are no end to clichéd characters, there's not so much a love triangle as a love star or whatever shape there is with way too many pointy ends (my Geometry teacher would be so proud), because it seems like everyone...more

now, usually i am a little leery about reading books that it took two people to write. but this one didn't seem cobbled together the way Beautiful Creatures did. and i don't read a lot of realistic YA, but the guy at the s&s booth at ALA assured me i would like it. and i did. thank you, guy whose name i have forgotten. we had a very nice conversation and i am sorry i have forgotten your name and i thank you for pushing this book on me, even though i made a frowny face at the...more

Sorry Karma, we're taking things into our own hands! Kat, Mary, and Lillia are out for revenge. These three incredibly different girls - both in personality and social status - help each other right some wrongs. A great balance of friendship, drama, and intrigue; Burn for Burn is full of entertainment value, and high in sass!

The girls: We've got three convincing voices made up of three distinctive personalities. In a style that will appeal to fans of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, we swi...more
"Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves."

"Oh, here go hell come."
-Calvin Tran

I love revenge stories. Whether it's Edmond Dantes in Count of Monte Cristo or Beatrix Kiddo in Kill Bill, there's just something about characters who say, No. Not anymore. Not again.

In Burn for Burn, we meet three characters -- a princess, a basket case, a brain. The chapters alternate between their points of view as we discover how they end up on a collision course of revenge. The book op...more

Revenge is sweet…

Well this is a guilty pleasure if ever I read one. I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting when I started Burn for Burn, but it definitely wasn’t this. And I think I mean that in a good way.

Lillia, Mary and Kat are three very different girls with something in common; they are after revenge and have decided to band together to get it. Mary, the first character we meet, returns to Jar Island after leaving four years ago due to the actions of a boy. Her opposite, Kat De...more

Now I'm pissed! Jenny Han was one of the best Contemporary, Realistic fiction writers ever! Why must she go and write Supernatural, fantasy fiction???? This is so upsetting because most fantasy-fic writers, do not really write good books. so if she writes a crappy book and I read it, I won't remember her for the awesome We'll Always Have Summer but for the crappy job she did with a fantasy book. Ugh. For some, you might think this is stupid of me and petty. It most definitely is. Guess I will fi...more

Burn for Burn is such an exciting read. Lillia, Kat and Mary tell this riveting story in three distinct voices that will keep you up late reading. I can't wait to see what happens next in this hot trilogy!

I cannot even tell you how excited I was to read this book. The beautiful cover and the badass blurb was way too hard to resist. I can safely say that this book didn't disappoint me at all. I ended up reading it so fast because it just pulled me in that much. But I have to take away half a star due to a tiny little detail that I'll explain later in this review.

So the book is told from the POVs of Mary,...more
Being a huge fan of Jenny Han’s books, when I first heard about Burn for Burn, I knew I had to get my hands on a copy. Also Siobhan Vivian was an author whose books I had been promising myself to getting around to for ages. So I knew picking up this book would be a win-win situation!

Burn for Burn focuses on three girls, Kat, Mary and Lillia forced to work together on one common goal; revenge. You know the saying revenge is a dish best served cold? Well this saying totally applied here. The three...more

Alright, this book was filled with every ridiculous high school stereotype ever, and is so unrealistic. However, I am hooked so I guess that really didn't matter.
Loved it!
This is such a fun story, and so easy to read.
It's super fast-paced and I had such a hard time putting it down. I loved all of the characters, they each have their own personalities and I love how they all interacted.
The plot is so interesting, even though it's a little predictable. I can't wait to read the next book!

I went in to this book expecting it to be just a light fun contemporary.... but boy was I wrong! This book had me completely engulfed after the first few chapters. I loved having the perspectives of the three girls, Kat, Lillia and Mary. Each girl is so different and had really interesting reasons on why they wanted revenge, yet they all kind of intertwined. I think of the three girls I liked Mary the best, although its really hard to choose, they are pretty equal, I definitely enjoyed...more
"I'm sick of waiting for karma. Karma can suck it."

I didn't expect to liked this book as much as I did!! The story is unbelievably crazy because of its clicheness but it's just so entertaining that I feel like it's something to overlooked!

What this story about:

Mary is back to Jar Island. She left back then because she was being bullied starting when Reeve transfer to their school. He called her "Big Easy" and the name got stuck. But the wound went deeper than that. She planned on making him f...more

Uh, there better be a book #2! What an ending!

Every now and then I love a good bitchy book with drama and this one delivered! From the get-go we see that friendships are strained and not so peachy. Told from three points of view, Lilia, Kat, and Mary, life on Jar Island is anything but breezy. Lillia and Rennie are the schools Queen B's, but their relationship is more of a love/hate kind of thing. Lillia is tired of Rennie's selfish behavior and the way she treats the entire school. Kat was cas...more

I'm sick of waiting for karma. Karma can suck it.

Three very different girls who want the same thing: sweet, sweet revenge. And they won't stop until they each had a taste.

Burn for Burn was an okay read, but it started out quite slow.

I felt really sorry for Mary. That day must have been awful for her, it was so embarrassing!
I felt sorry for Kat too. I've had "friends" cut me off like that before too, and it really isn't nice!
I could see where Lilia was coming from with her reason for revenge, but i thought it was a bit silly that she didn't investigate the matter beforehand.

The ending was weird! I really don't get why the authors thought that...more

Honestly it's even hard to tell you how much I wanted to read this book. Ever since Summer trilogy Jenny has a special place in my heart. I expected nothing less from this book, but I'm not that lucky.

I have no idea where to start. Maybe I should tell you about the book. Well first of all here we have three narrators. Three girls who share the past and the place where they grow up but some things changed so they changed as well. Lillia, Kat and Mary. They a...more
I'm not really sure how to explain my feelings about this book.

There were a lot of aspects that I liked, but some that I didn't really like at all.

I really like Jenny Han's writing style and that really came through..but.. I don't know. I liked this book (obviously I gave it a 4 star rating, but I'm already doubting myself thinking it may be closer to 3.5 stars?

I enjoyed that these girls are trying to get their revenge because these characters definitely had it coming to them. I didn't exactl...more

You know what? I'm actually pretty peeved. You wanna know why? Because I was dead set on giving this book a glorious 4 stars before I reached the ending.

That ending was awful. I have never been more annoyed at an ending before, especially since it stinks of cliffhanger gone wrong and a now-you-HAVE-to-read-the-second-book promotion. I was hoping this was a stan...more
I'm disappointed at how shallow this book turned out to be - it was a too petty and hurtful to be juvenile, but not hard-hitting enough to be gritty. While the initial idea of it caught my interest, the actual reading turned out to be the pretty immature revenge antics of three girls who I really thought could find a lot of better things to do with their time. As the book continued, I slowly got more and more annoyed with each of the three main girls and wished they would all just grow up a bit....more

A HUGE THANK YOU THANK YOU to Around The World ARC Tours for allowing me to read the BRILLIANT read! I started reading it yesterday morning and I could not put it down. I actually fell asleep holding the book because I was trying to stay awake to finish it. This review is going to be different from my other reviews because it has three main girl characters and they each need there own spotlight and we have the supporting cxharacters that rock so I need to give you low down from their perspective...more

Burn for Burn was such a guilty pleasure read for me! There is something so juicy and enjoyable about books dealing with revenge. We all know some idiot who gets away with their sucky behaviour time and time again and it was so fun living vicariously through Lillia, Kat and Mary as they demanded payback. Watching them get their revenge felt strangely satisfying as a reader who loves these characters but at the same time I liked how this book shown that there’s always more to people and their rea...more

One word: phenomenal. This book was phenomenal! Big girls don't cry, they get even. That's what the book says, and it's true. The three girls are all for revenge, and this time, they aren't waiting for karma to strike, but they're taking matters in their own hands. The main protagonists; Lillia, Kat, and Mary are all tremendously different from each other. Each one has their own characteristics, and I guess that really made the story much more interesting to read. Each chapter is from one of the...more

I loved this book so much! <3

I loved it to pieces. If someone tore this book apart (O_o) I would continue to love every last smithereen of it. In fact, I wasn't expecting to like this book at all. It looked super cheesy, but it turned out to be an awesome read. One of my favorites of 2013, I have to admit.

I liked Jenny Han's Summer trilogy well enough, but it wasn't one of my favorites. I don't think I would have given this book a second glance were it not for some reviews I read, the gorgeou...more

Cover Impressions: First of all, kudos for having cover models who actually look like the characters (double kudos for having an Asian character and *GASP! an Asian Model - IT CAN BE DONE!) This is the type of cover that would definitely appeal to my jr high girls. The faded colors work really well and I enjoy the effect of the transparent title overlay.

Have you ever read a book that sounds and looks amazing, gets really good, then drops off with no resolution and plot holes? If you have, you must have read BURN FOR BURN. Of course you could like that sort of thing: "It's so genius, it doesn't even have an ending." No. Just, no. I need resolution! I need everything bundled up in a nice little package, everything resolved all neat and tidy, no storyline left to wander because i...more
It's coming. The bitch slap to end all bitch slaps.

Was going to be 5 stars, but the whole 'Carrie' PNR thing wasn't necessary and I feel like the author just added it for no reason. Really irritated me that it was just thrown in there.

Other than that, this was fucking awesome. I love me some revenge stories. And these girls sure know how to be brutal. Especially Kat. She's one fucked up chic.

I was going to get the sequel right away, but the third isn't out yet and I've heard there's a huge cli...more

I did not expect to like this book as much as I did... It was fun ride, watching as these girls planned and plotted to get back the people who caused them pain/anger.

I think I would've gotten along with all these girls, but Kat was my favorite:) Loved how stayed true to herself and didn't let Rennie totally destroy her, mentally cheered when she stood up to Rennie in the school parking lot.

I felt so bad for Mary, what Reeve did was despicable and he didn't even seem to feel sorry for it.. I coul...more
Normally I wouldn't give a contemporary type book 5 stars, but this one honestly deserves it. This book was such a fun read and was majorly addictive. I was going to give it 4 stars because I seemed quite incomplete, but then I found out there's a second book so all good it's all explained ;).

Basically, the book is written from the POVs of three very different girls. Kat is a classic bad girl, Lillia is popular and Mary is the shy new girl. They are all interconnected in some way and band togeth...more
