A couple of years ago a friend asked me for book recommendations for his eight year old daughter. She had a quiet, sweet disposition, and the preponderance of books on the market featuring sassy, bossy protagonists did not appeal to her as a reader, or to him as a parent. At the time my own daughter was still a toddler and I wasn't paying much attention to chapter books for young readers. Now that I have a seven year old daughter and am on the lookout for books she might enjoy, I can better appr...more
I read these (all 6 - this is just the first) to Bea and we enjoyed them. As a read aloud they really would be better formated in one big book so that there could be less repetition. The books are so short! But I can see that might be what they are going for in an early reader chapter book.
We enjoyed the plot for the most part - very sweet and simple. The girls are always doing things that Bea wishes she could do -- make a dollhouse, write a newpaper, organize tea parties. The whole plot line a...more

Just lovely.
The Cobble Street Cousins are Tess, Lily and Rosie. They are spending a year with their Aunt Lucy because their parents are touring the world with a ballet company.
The girls are creative and imaginative in their own way and this was just a fun book to read aloud. (In this book they create a cookie company and play matchmaker for their aunt.) At 54 pages it even kept my 2 year old daughter's attention almost to the end.

I cannot recommend this book without recommending the entire series. What a fabulous, sweet story about 3 girl cousins who relate well together and can cooperate on their projects without the battles you might usually see between siblings. I read this series as an adult, but wish I'd been able to get my hands on it as a child. Had a similar feel for me as my all-time-favorite novel _The Little Princess_ by F.H. Burnett. If your daughter is a sensative soul who might be upset by the thought of de...more
I like the book. Actually, I found out one of the series at a book store two years ago. It was a Japanese translation version. Since I liked the illustration, I bought it.
A could of days ago, I found the English version on Amazon.com. Since the yen has appreciated and been strong against the American dollar for a while, I bought all of the series. I finished reading first of them.
I love the story and illustration. Both of them are so cute! I became a fan of three cousins of the book series. The...more

This is a sweet book about three cousins living with their aunt while their parents, who are dancers in a ballet company, are off on a world tour! "Just this once,Rose, everyone lives!" Sorry, Dr. Who reference. Still, as a friend noted in her review, it is nice not to have death be the culprit for their parents' absence from the story. My daughter, to whom I read this, is 6.5 years old.

Charming, soft story of three cousins each with specific interests, living with Aunt Lucy who encourages their passions. The cousins have a cookie business which leads them to meeting interesting adults who are charmed by their personalities. Finally a "show" at Aunt Lucy's house is enjoyed by their new adult friends. A nice reminder that not all girls are sassy, pushy and have given up good manners and artistic pursuits.
My teacher introduced this wonderful book to me. I decided to read it, and I loved it! I want to read this series again and again and again. One way I really liked it is because I'm exactly like Tess, Rosie, and Lilly! Why I am like them is because I want to be an actress like Tess. And I like stained-glass windows like Rosie. And I am really good at ideas and I like to write poems like Lilly. So this is the perfect book for me!
The Cobble Street cousins are three cousins; Lily, Rosie and Tess. They live with their Aunt Lucy. Their parents travel a lot so the three girls had to live with Aunt Lucy for a year. Each of them have their own rooms in the attic. They sold cookies to someone who broke their leg and for someone's 90th birthday. Her name was Mrs. White and she gave each of the girl's a little cat. I liked it because they sold cookies.

This is a wonderful tale of three cousins living with their aunt for a year. We've read the last book in this series (unknowingly) and now we are going back to the beginning. The stories are sweet and heartwarming.
