Let me start by saying though I did not give the book a five star rating I did LOVE it! The story was well developed, easy to follow and bewitching ;) I couldn't put it down until I finished it. The characters are believable and likable, whether you like to love them or like to hate them, the emotion is there. The descriptions of each scene was great in that it didn't drag on to the point where I had to skim just to get to the dialogue so that was a definite plus! I loved the relationship develo...more
I have read a lot of YA paranormal fiction - really, as in a LOT - from Morganville to House of Night, Twilight to Vampire Diaries, and Evernight to Vampire Academy etc, as well as the Sookie Stackhouse and Women of the Otherworld series from the adult range, however all of these are set in the USA. How refreshing therefore to find a vampire story set here in the UK, based in the North West in Manchester, of which I live on the outskirts of.

A book set in Manchester (that's in the UK in case you didn't know). We should have more books set in the UK, I've found most YA books are either set somewhere in America or Ireland. I love discovering books that are set in the UK, so obviously when I saw this book I just had to read it.
This isn't just another vampire story. There's some of the old world vamp stuff for it to feel familiar with just enough of a modern edge for it not to feel overused. Let's not forget there's a whole bunch of wit...more
'Witchblood' is the first book in a young adult paranormal romance series that follows Jessica - "Jess" - as her world is violently ripped away and replaced with one of a vampire. When Jess awakens to find herself no longer human, but a vampire - things go from bad to worse. All Jess wants is for things to go back to normal so she can be with her true love - Luke. When Daniel, her gorgeous maker, forbids her to go near Luke, Jess threatens to expose the entire vampire clan. On top of all her new...more
This is not the first but the second time I have read Witch Blood and yes it was still just as amazing as the first time I read it. I originally picked up this book because the cover intrigued me, I had yet heard of Emma Mills. I do not want to give away too much while I review so please bare with me and if what I have to say makes you raise you eyebrows even a fraction peaked with intrest pick up this book!

Though there seems to be a glut of paranormal romance novels flooding the virtual shelves these days, Witchblood, by Emma Mills, has struck a chord with readers as an adept blend of something borrowed and something new. Although not a totally original premise, this novel about super hot vampires walking among humans adds interesting twists to the standard, making Witchblood a hot commodity with current audiences.

This book is a breath of fresh air in the paranormal genre. I love the twist of adding a half witch half vampire into the vampire world. The story line is fresh and engaging and I loved the British dialect used throughout the story. I was thrilled to have also received the second installment of the series to review because I was keen to continue reading about Jessica and all her dangerous adventures.

After being attacked by a girl gang and left for dead, Jessica finds herself being turned into a vampire by a gorgeous boy she had seen only minutes earlier. Trying to leave her old life and her boyfriend Luke behind is hard especially as Jess appears more human than a vampire should; after all craving toast isn’t usual vampire behaviour. Jess is caught between her first love Luke who seems to be hiding something and Daniel, her vampire saviour who is her protector when unknown powers put her in...more

She also has a way hot boyftiend named Luke who has been her childhood sweetheart and they are still going strong ...that is until one night changes everything. Angel, Vampires & Witches so far. Good story definitely reading the second book. As the synopsis stated, Jess is not all human but her other side does not come out until something tragic happens to her. The love of her life, Luke is not who she thinks he is and Jessica is falling for Daniel. I could not put the book down and I finished it in one sitting! At times I was frustrated at Jess for not doing the correct thing in situations threw out the entire story and had me shaking my head. It w...more
I was blown away by this book it is excellent and shows vampires the way they should be, blood sucking, sexy and dark. The beginning disturbed me a little in the violence sense, it was a little true to life but I liked how it planned out. I love the main character Jess and how, since becoming a vampire she has mystified those who have been vampires for many years. Daniel is dark and mysterious, but playful too.

Witchblood is the debut novel from Emma Mills, and it is one of my favorites. I am a sucker for vamp stories, without a doubt, but this book is unique in its story. A little bit vamp, a little bit witchy, and a little bit human,... there is a little of everything in this story. Jess is so likeable as a character that it was impossible not to be drawn into the book. She is your normal teenage girl with all the normal teenage angst that we can relate to. The struggle between her humanity and her n...more
I don't really know exactly how to describe my reaction to this book. The title was great, cover art not so much. The story takes place in the UK. It has witches, vampires, etc. There's magic, drama, romance, suspense. So why not higher stars...several reasons. The concepts and characters were intriguing, but I found myself at 80% and waiting for the end to come. First off, it is depressing. SPOILERS....I mean the main character loses everything. Then there's the love interest, Daniel. He's got...more
This book was about Jessie who was living this ordinary life at 17 and went to a club with her girlfriend Alex one night. They both had a few drinks and Jessie notices a stranger looking at her and is almost mesmerized by his attention. Alex mysteriously disappears and Jessie decides to walk home by herself in the dark, one decision that will change her life forever. She is beset by a gang of girls and left for dead but just as she begins to fade, she is rescued by the handsome stranger who enti...more

I received Witchblood from the author Emma Mills for being the 50th person to “like” her Facebook page. Thank you Emma Mills. Witchblood is about a young girl Jess who is turned into a vampire one night when she goes to a bar with her friends. While at this bar she meets a very handsome man named Daniel. She thinks that she is being unfaithful to her boyfriend Luke who she thinks is out of town at a bachelor party. So she leaves Daniel sitting at the table and walks out. All of her friends have...more

My thoughts so far. I can't see Jess and Daniel together. It doesn't feel right, he doesn't act, respond to her in a way that I can say that there is something between them. What I see is that there is some connection, she felt that he was different from the first moment, first look as he did for her but it's more like that they recognize that they are different and can't explain why. After the change they have more brother sister relationship, friendly but nothing more than that. At the...more

When I saw the cover the first thing I thought was that I was going to read a really creepy story, but I was wrong. The cover just perfectly reflects a particular moment and a clear image you find in the story, an original story with some really believable characters, the heroine in primis. Jess is a teenager but she's very mature because of some tragic events happened (and keep happening) in her life... You can clearly see that and one...more

*update 6 April 2013*
The main draw of me reading this book was the fact that the author is not only a Brit like me, but she also has set her books in the UK. My other half is from Manchester, but I don't admit to knowing the city very much.
The main character of Jess is pretty much someone I'd want to be friends with. She sassy with a touch or sarcastic. Just my kinda gal, but I wanted to shake her when she left the club alone. You just DON'T do that!! I...more

We meet Jess, a not quite normal 17 year old girl.. If only she knew how not-normal she was! The "abnormal" she knows about, and we're first introduced to, is the fact that she's already in University..
Her boyfriend, Luke, is out of town at a bachelor party so she and her best friend, Alex go out to a club. There she lays eyes on a beautiful man but feeling unfaithful, she quickly ignores him. As usual, Alex is drunk and no where to be found as this mystery man has a seat at Jess's table. He's...more

If you are looking for a different young-girl-turned-vampire story, I think this is it. Daniel starts off as the mysterious stranger in the bar with burnt chocolate eyes. Jess sees him, and she’s attracted. But she has a boyfriend whom she loves, Luke. But Daniel sees her too. They have a brief conversation that really leads nowhere. Jess’s evening ends with her being mugged in the alley and left for dead… or vampires.

This was a great read! The plot, and the elements that make up vampire existence in this book were quite unique. I was hooked from the first page, and the fact that it was set in my beloved UK is a bonus for me.

So you know those books that take a few chapters to really get into the story? You get a lot of information that at the time just feels quite useless until it all comes together and makes total sense? Yea well this book? Totally not like that! Witchblood doesn’t give you information until you need it! In the first chapter our main character? OMG she DIES! Like seriously? Ok, so my first reaction after reading this book was that it kind of felt like I was reading Twilight but why did I give it five stars?
I felt that the storyline was so strong, I was drawn in from the first page and it shows vampires the way that they should be known, pale, dark blood-suckers not sparkly fairies. I loved the main character and was easily able to feel for her. Before this book, I had never really read any vampire books (not that I really count Twilight) but it was the witch eleme...more

=Jessica is violently attacked by a girl gang, and is then left for dead. But somehow she is saved. Turns out she's become a vampire, under the care of Daniel and Eva. She has to learn how to deal with her new found status, her place in Vampire society, and of course the new diet. But as well as the powers that come with being a vampire, she has others. She's also a witch, somehow, with no way of formally learning to control these powers. And there may be more to this than she thinks...

It was a pretty good & interesting story, & mostly well told. A bit *too* descriptive at times, except when it came to describing dialogue. (Too much "shouting" without any emoting, especially.)
The heroine was actually easy to relate to as far as encountering a new & unknown world. However, I wish we had seen her mature more throughout the book. The secondary characters were interesting but not well fleshed-out - I still had very little idea of their reasoning by the end. And it was...more

Jessica is a seventeen year old girl who has started at the University early. She and her best friend, Alex, go out clubbing one night, and Jessica's life is forever changed. At the bar, Jessica catches the attention of a hottie named Daniel. She is surprised by his interest and flattered, but she loves her boyfriend of 4 years, Luke. Alex takes off, and Jessica takes a short cut that alters her life. She is attacked and left to die, and Daniel saves her, making her a vampire. But somehow, Jessi...more
I have to admit I have mixed feelings about thins book. Although I didn't get hooked until almost halfway, I have to say that the beginning sounded very real.
Emma described perfectly the attack scene, making me feel like I was there in that alley, feeling fear and panicking. The good thing of the initial few chapters is that even if the story is fictional, it's told in a way that it could be easily projected to real life. Vampires are not real. They don't exist. I can see how Jess' reactions are...more

This book was quiet boring, the plot took too long to unfold, action escalated at snail pace, and the characters were not believable.
How can vampires be this old and yet be soo childish, the characters were so juvenile and one sided. Wasn't what I expected, the only thing going for the story is the vampire witch angle, which let's be real is kind of cool, but on Jessica? Not sure if she as a character pulled it off effectively.

I started off not expecting to like this book as I haven't had much luck with the free books from Amazon. I ended up staying up way too late reading and then coming home from work to finish the book off the second day.
The background of the characters came to life through their dialogue and the story flowed seamlessly. The book did have the love triangle deal going on but I like that it dealt more with her internal struggles versus her love interests. I also like that it didn't turn into unreali...more

Hi I'm Emma. I am happily married with two lovely children. I have always loved reading and writing and have just written my first novel.
