A co-worker kept harping on these Splinter Cell books, saying they were oh so good. Considering I like the games so much, I wanted to try this out.
First of all, this book is corny as hell. I was cringing during certain conversations, even the thoughts going through Sam Fisher's head were flat out cheese. I would also have liked a little more character development. It was the main reason I read the book after all. Third Echelon was explained in better detail than in the games, which gi...more

Normally, video game novels stink or just don't capture the attention of hardcore gamers. And some video games are way to complex to read and understand, like starcraft, diablo and warcraft books. Yet when I first bought this book, expecting to return it, I discovered a very good plot and narrative. Sam Fisher, the hero of the series, battles extreme terrorism, the book turns out to be a page-turner till the very end. Sam fisher's daughter is captured by a man she thought was a good date, and Sa...more

Maybe because I am such a big fan of the game, I loved the book. I have to say that playing the game is fun, but reading the story that I usually ignore in the game is interesting because then all the gameplay and missions make more sense to me. The plot was basic, but it gave a lot of substance which makes this book enjoyable. It tells of a world where these splinter cell operatives are called upon to diffuse a grave situation. These are considered the heroes that we never really hear about. I ...more

Usually I read Tom Clancy when I feel like I want to read a war book or I want to delve into history. When I saw this book though, it looked a lot different and I was drawn to it. "My first thought was Tom Clancy wrote this??" when I saw it on the shelf. So I bought it and read it and liked it. I think it was most engaging book that I have run into of Tom Clancy's. I'm glad that he wrote more books of the same series.

This seemed like it would be a nice adventure book, but the long descriptions get a bit boring after a while. And I could see the plot about Sam Fisher's daughter and her boyfriend pretty much a mile away, as the old cliche goes. And once I figured that out, the rest of the book did not seem as interesting. Overall, kind of a "blah" book. And based on this one, I am not likely to seek out the rest of the series.

Okay, here's where Clancy went wrong. He has hired a team of writers to help him with his recent books. Essentially, he puts an idea out there, gives some advice, and the rest comes from the rookie. There's a significant departure from his classics in this book. It's still pretty good but you can tell it's not Clancy.

Sam fisher is a covert agent known as a Splinter Cell. He is part of a brand new classified organization called Third Echelon. Sam goes into delicate and dangerous situations to spy, assassinate, or interrogate, whatever in needed to be done to complete the mission at hand and leave absolutely no traces behind

Anyone who likes Action and Plot.
If you liked the game, this is a good addition. Anyone can read this high paced novel. The main character is special agent Sam Fisher, he works for a secret district of the NSA dubbed Third Echelon. The first person perspective used in this book adds good flavor and change.

I actually read the second book first so it was a little bit of a spoiler for this one. It wasn't as good as the second one, in my opinion, but still okay. However I recommend that you don't read it if you're under thirteen. There are a few explicit scenes.

Yuck. One of my earmarks for a crappy book is when they spend a lot of time listing the exact model & characteristics of every weapon a person carries. If you like the 'Death Land' series by Axler or the 'Executioner', you may like this. Not my cup of tea.

I enjoyed the Splinter Cell PC games, and after playing the last installment, picked up this book at the library to preview it for my son. The bitterly coarse language made me glad I did. The story was fine, but the unnecessary profanity turned me off.

Tom Clancy - like his style. Every plot seems to be on a collision course with world ending devastation, until his main characters swoop in to pull the plug, or trigger, just in time to save the day. Good writing nontheless.

not a bad clancy spy yarn, kind of like a modern james bond. A bit too much time describing weapons and not quite enough suspense, predictable happy ending. Steven king would have killed a few more friendly's.

This book should have been destroyed before it wasted paper upon its production.
Tom Clancy - haven't you made enough money already?
Fancy putting your name to this shite! You should be ashamed.

An interesting book based on a video game. The concept was created by Tom Clancy and the book was written by another author. The story is good and develops well but ends up being quite predictable.

I'm a huge fan of the games and when I saw that Clancy (ghost wrote by Raymond Benson under a pen name) made it a full fledge novel, I had to have. And I wasn't disappointed.

I felt like this book was written with the sole purpose of driving up the popular video game series' sales. Not up to par with most books bearing Clancy's name.

This book overall was good. There were some parts that went into to much detail about the operation of how things worked. I did think it was interesting though.
