There is a top secret organization within the U.S. government called Third Echelon. This organization works by deploying a single highly trained spy, called a splinter cell, who does whatever is necessary to complete his mission. This book is about one splinter cell named Sam Fisher as he tries to bring down a quickly rising terrorist army, shut down a group of weapons dealers, and stop a mad man from destroying Baghdad.

At page 50, I find this book to be a tremendous disappointment. This is not literature, and this book was not written by Tom Clancy.
It turns out that Clancy now sets up a book story line based on a video game then farms out the actual writing to apprentice writers.
The quality of work here is pedestrian. I’ve read longer, more developed sentences on twitter. There is no nuance, no development of scene or character. Page 30 reads. “Maybe I’m just not very hip. I’m not a social guy. I don’t go out...more

The general idea of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is about a lone operative who works for a government agency that doesn't exist, his name is Sam Fisher. I like to think of Sam to be a mix between James Bond, Jet Li, and Ethan Hunt (from Mission Impossible I, II, and III). Sam works for an agency called Third Echelon, a completely secret and of the records organization. When on missions no one knows he exists, what he does, or where he is.

what is the opposite of chick lit? dick lit? well who cares. this book has everything the average heteronormative male, as we all like to be sometimes, what the general nicolas sparks book does not have. special forces, cat-and-mouse play, deception and betrayal on diplomatic level, and one guy who manages to beat all the odds and pulling a straight john rambo. we follow the life of john clark, an ex-special forces guy who becomes someone like jack bauer from the 24 series. without spoiling, he...more
Truly Speaking, It felt more Like a Copy of the video
game itself than a story. I set a search on those books because I
wanted more from it than just a basic story telling.
Don't get me wrong, the story was good. Some good suspense.
Only you get the feeling that you are playing the game. And simply
that's not why I want to read a book. I expect you see more character
development, more descriptions. Like it would be so good that it would
feel that the game is actually based on the book.

I read the book Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell by David Michaels. The book is about a top secret agent named Sam Fisher. The reason the book is called Splinter Cell is because the type of secret agent Sam is, is called a splinter cell. Sam is the first splinter cell so that is why the book is told in his perspective.
The story starts off with right at the very beginning action packed. The government company that Sam works for is called Third Echelon. Third Echelon is a top...more

This action packed thriller is set in 2004 in the middle east. Third Echelon (group covert agents called splinter cells)is out to stop The Shop from selling weapons into the wrong hands. The shadows (Iranian terrorist group is on a mission to acquire weapons of mass destruction. The summary of the book is the shadow trying to turn the region and its people against the U.S. in any way possible. The shop is aware of splinter cells and tries to capitalize on any opportunity to eliminate one and mak...more
I have always loved spy novels regardless of if they were actually good or not. I love the constant action and thrill that spy books give you. That being said, I find the Book Splinter Cell to be an awesome book. This book did a great job of keeping me tied in throughout. The main characters name is Sam Fisher. He is a specialized version of the NSA. His unit is called Third Echelon. His job is to protect American interests by any means. The book takes us from London to Cyprus and even to Evanst...more
I recently read Splinter Cell, a book in the Tom Clancy video game franchise. Splinter Cell follows agent Sam Fisher, an employed NSA agent working for a secret government agency, Third Echelon, in the branch of the NSA. A mysterious man has kidnapped his daughter, and that becomes a side quest to the mission he is already on. Sam must stop insane political leader Nasir Tarighian and the Shop, a terrorist organization determined to ruin the Middle East.

Based on the video games series Splinter Cell, and super spy Sam Fisher. for anybody who isn't familiar with the game series or hasn't read this book, Sam Fisher is an American spy working for a top secret agency known as Third Echelon.

A co-worker kept harping on these Splinter Cell books, saying they were oh so good. Considering I like the games so much, I wanted to try this out.
First of all, this book is corny as hell. I was cringing during certain conversations, even the thoughts going through Sam Fisher's head were flat out cheese. I would also have liked a little more character development. It was the main reason I read the book after all. Third Echelon was explained in better detail than in the games, which give little...more

This book really made me angry and i hope to never write like David Michaels. This is a typical case of outlined writing, where someone just took a plain idea and because the book was based off a movie and the book has Tom Clancy's name on it, the book sold. Michaels brought nothing new to the table with "Splinter Cell". The story of a special agent whose personal life gets caught up with his job in the NSA. The settings were bland, and the story telling and dialog were nothing to write home abo...more
This is definitely not Tom Clancy writing. Tom unfortunately like Stephen King have become so wordy and overly descriptive that I get bored with reading many of their books. This book is more like the bubblegum, sitting on a beach, quick read type book and is very enjoyable. Like on of the other reviewers said this is what every man wants to read occasionally. A good spy novel where the good guy wins and there is plenty of violence and espionage and other spy techniques. Fun read.
Well, it's been awhile since I've read a Tom Clancy novel, and even tho this wasn't written by Clancy, it's still an action-packed, gadget-filled, conspiracy-driven thriller. It goes into a wee too much detail about weaponry for my taste (tho I do like weapons, battles, etc., in my fiction)... but I'm sure male readers would love it for that. The characters are a little flat, tho I'm going to read the next book in the series to see if that aspect improves. So I'll let you know.
After playing the games I decided to take a risk & read the first Splinter Cell book. The pseudonym David Michael's means there is a different author for almost every book in the series. This book was strongly written & I enjoyed having the mental pictures of the video game before I read the book. Usually seeing a movie before reading a book taints the mental pictures I have when reading it myself, but not in this series. Highly recommended.
Better book than I thought it would be. I never really played the Splinter Cell games, though I read all Clancy books (well, the ones he actually wrote anyways) and know the basic style of his characters. I saw the 1st person perspective and was initially wary as I don't like first person all that much, but it was a great combination of 1st and 3rd person (1st for Sam Fisher...3rd for plot development). It worked very well together and made for a great story.
I was entertained.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is a high action-filled book. Sam Fischer must rescue his daughter after she is kidnapped by a man she meets while visiting another country. The character Sam Fischer is based off the video game series so it had many suspenseful but quick scenes. I had never read a graphic book like this before but it was a new and enjoyable read. Throughout the entire story, the author's action scenes keeps the reader wanting to keep reading until the end.
This book was actually pretty good for a book based off a video game. The story was entirely different though. The story showed the details of the agents thought and actions in the middle of a special op. For a spy book it also made a pretty good story and Tom Clancy put some things into the book that really made the story suspenseful. This book had plenty of action and suspense and I liked it.
This isn't my normal genre by a long stretch, but I always read what my boys recommend....whether I like it or not. And alot of the time, I don't. So wish me luck!
Ok, I actually really liked it. I am totally surprised. I found it also easy to follow. I was afraid that I would have a difficult time since I am not a normal fan of the genre or of this type of video games. The way the main character, Sam Fisher tells the story, you are totally carried along and he explains everything. I really enjoy...more

It's a book you take with you to the restroom and pick it up every now and then. A couple chapters at a time is just the right amount of reading per visit to the washroom and you'll be finished within a few weeks. It's predictable but fun. Some moments of intrigue but nothing to rave about. Easy to read, little depth, airplane/restroom reading material.
Normally, video game novels stink or just don't capture the attention of hardcore gamers. And some video games are way to complex to read and understand, like starcraft, diablo and warcraft books. Yet when I first bought this book, expecting to return it, I discovered a very good plot and narrative. Sam Fisher, the hero of the series, battles extreme terrorism, the book turns out to be a page-turner till the very end. Sam fisher's daughter is captured by a man she thought was a good date, and Sa...more
If you have never heard of this series, start with this book. Then play the games. I am really big fan of novel tie ins. The series really starts with the books then goes on to create an epic story.
For fun I would love to see a stand off between: Bond, Fisher, Bourne, and Bryan Mills. And for added measure Michael Weston. For an ultimate spy showdown.

Some parts are too predictable, others are too cheesy, good action that at times keeps you reading. Would read the other books on the series if I can get the books for free, but would not pay for them. Just in case you were wondering the copy that I read was given to me by my uncle so I got it for free.
I thought it was a very good book one i would highly recommend to people. the main charecter is a agent for for a orginzation not even the fbi or cia know about and after 2 other agents are killed hes sent to the middle east to investagate. there is some swearing and one sex scene where the daughter of the main charecter and another importent charecter have sex.
