Love at first sight can work for dogs as well as humans.

When Aaron finds Mavis, an emaciated and timid Boston terrier, at a pet adoption fair, his heart goes out to her—irrevocably.

When Christian, who is manning the adoption fair for the Humane Society that fateful autumn Saturday, finds Aaron, his heart goes out to him—irrevocably.

My feelings about this story are rather mixed. As in all Rick Reed's books, the writing was very good, I loved Mavis, the dog and the MCs were very cute together. I also liked the fact that they are both very "normal" guys.

What didn't work for me was the character of the sister. At first she persuaded Aaron to adopt little Mavis, brushing all the objections her brother raised aside:

“And I stand by that, as you call it, pushing. I think it was a good idea, even if was spontaneous. Mavis

Sometimes I am in the mood for one of Rick R. Reed's dark books, but some days I want something short and sweet. I Heart Boston Terriers definitely delivered on the short and sweet.

Aaron is staying with his sister while trying to mend a broken heart. One trip to a pet store and Aaron falls in love all over again - with a dog named Mavis. Mavis is one of the animals up for adoption in an adoption fair being held at the pet store that day. Unemp

I wasn't a huge fan of this story, probably because there really isn't much romance, just a bit of a hookup and I had iffy feelings about how the dog was treated, not by the MC but by his sister. I absolutely abhor people who take animals then can't take care of them and then dump them, and I did not like his flighty, immature, materialistic sister. Where she might have only annoyed me a bit usually, with the animal involved, it really made me mad.

Statistics show that sharing our lives with animal companions improves its quality and our longevity; animal caregivers live longer, happier lives. Our beloved companions’ loyalty and adoration go a long way toward healing our wounded spirits. In 'I Heart Boston Terriers' by Rick Reed, Aaron needs this kind of healing. When he adopts Mavis, he also meets Christian, her animal shelter caregiver; together they help Aaron take his first steps toward healing his broken heart.

I heart Boston Terriers is the intertwining story of Aaron , his new dog Mavis( just gotta love a dog called Mavis ) and Christian.Aaron having just had his heart broken moves to a new city to live with his sister, they decide to visit Petsmart where aaron finds the adorable mavis and perhaps the equally charming Christian.\
I knew I was going to just love this story the minute I opened it up and read the dedication. A couple of lines simple but so obviously meant with such love and sincerity , y

Aaron just got dumped and has moved in with his sister. He has no job and feels he is in a rut, until he meets Mavis. His Mavis. A cute Boston terrier, Mavis has been dumped by her owners and is feeling shy and insecure. Aaron feels an instant connection with Mavis even though he knows now it's not the right time to make such a big commitment. He has no job, no place of his own and he is an emotional mess. In comes Christian, soothing both man and dog. Making them feel safe and secure

Meh. I really wanted to like this story. I've been reading lots (of nonfiction) about dogs lately, planning to get one (and fostering my first), so I was eager to read a romance with a dog as a key character. But this story really didn't work for me.

Mainly because I thought the sister was unnecessarily psychotic and bitchy. While I'm sure women like that really exist, in this case it seemed like a plot device rather than true characterization. It felt so off, I think it knocked the whole story o

What should have been a cute story was derailed by the sister's sudden character change. She goes from supportive to destructive in the blink of an eye -- very odd. I was disappointed.

3.5 Poor Aaron. He is living at his sister’s studio apartment, sleeping on the floor. He has no job, no prospects right now and is just coming back from a broken heart. His sister Becca hauls him to PetSmart to get supplies for her Maine Coon cat. While there they find a tiny, underweight, abused Boston Terrier named Mavis . She is terrified, hiding in a corner of her cage and cowering. She was terrified, sad and in desperate need of someone to love her

Yesterday afternoon I read Rick R. Reed’s short story, I HEART BOSTON TERRIERS and I’ve been smiling ever since. This particularly charming tale involves two of my favorite things, m/m romance and an adorable dog. We meet our hero, Aaron, with no job, no money, and a broken heart, living with his older sister in a new town, in a 600 square foot studio, trying to get his life back together. Reluctantly, Aaron’s sister Amy convinces him to adopt an abused rescue dog named Mavis from the shelter ...more

My feelings about this story are a little mixed so I don't really know how to rate it.
I liked Aaron and Christian...but Aaron's sister is a different point.
At first I liked the interactions between the siblings and the visit in the pet shelter...
But later I had too many problems with her reactions to dog Mavis...

Cute story about a loveable dog named Mavis. Aaron adopts her. His sister Becca practically forces him into the adoption. Christian is the cute volunteer at the adoption fair.
Becca was a PITA over her shoes when Mavis chewed them up.

It would of been better if it was longer to see if they did start a relationship. Also to see how Mavis was doing.

A guy's sister convinces him to adopt a dog, and then a smart, nice guy helps with the adoption. Rick R. Reed's characters are realistic and likable. A delightful, quick escape with a fun romance and a sweet little dog.
