In The Hands of Time, Irina Shapiro tells the story of Valerie Crane who, in the wake of a painful divorce, finds herself transported from 2010 to the early Seventeenth Century in England. Here, she meets two handsome brothers, Alexander and Finlay Whitfield. Both seem to have romantic feelings for Valerie, and she must choose between the two.

I really do not read much about time travel. But I was pleasantly surprised when I read the story of Valerie Crane Whitfield. Valerie turns to her sister after her divorce and the two travel to England...Valerie trying to overcome her failed marriage and Louisa on a business trip. While shopping, the unimaginable happens and Valerie finds herself in a different time and place. What would you do? How frightened would you be? She seeks help from two brothers living at Yealm Castle and both brother...more
I had a hard time deciding between a two star and three star review. I gave it three stars because I liked the story but I had a hard time with how fast Valarie slept with Finn and how it seemed she really didn't give too much thought to her family. Her whole relationship with Finn I just really did not believe, There was just something false with it and I can't really explain it. I also had a hard time trying to figure out when things happened. Had Valarie been there three weeks or three months...more
Irina pens "The Hands of Time", a romance mystery with a very interesting story line filled with emotions. I loved how strong and believable the characters were which made this book is a real page turner for me. Some of the historical facts were incorrect, but what does it matter....especially if you can accept time traveling. There is a cliffhanger at the end and now I can't wait to see what happens next. Highly recommended for all romance, mystery lovers.

The Hands of Time is a fun and emotional read. Irina Shapiro puts a clever spin on romantic time travel and takes readers' breaths away. The romance may be more than bargained for upon picking up a copy of The Hands of Time and Shapiro sweeps readers away with intimate scenes and whirlwind relationships. Tragedy strikes, but there's enough love to last throughout the entire novel!

What happens when you decide to set the right time as 16:05h in an old clock and you are transported to the year of 1605?
This is the story of Valerie Crane who, in the wake of a painful divorce, finds herself transported from 2010 to the early Seventeenth Century in England.
I liked the way the heroine sent a "message" to her living sister in the 21st century through a painting made by Joseph Blackburn.
This is the first book of the Hands of Time Trilogy.

What a surprise this was. I wasn't expecting much with this freebie and I probably wouldn't have read it otherwise. I could have used some editing and in the beginning it felt like their was a lot of telling instead of doing. But, I really enjoyed it. I stayed up late last night just to finish it. I enjoyed this book more than some other popular authors. I will definitely check out her other books. I think I have one more freebie from her and will be reading that one very soon.
Time travel, love triangle and happy ending. Perfect to spent my lazy day.
I read the book in one sitting and couldn't get to sleep after I finished it. I already miss Valarie and Alec.
The best part in this book when her sister checked painting of her in past, searched history article and confront with shop owner. I love the epilogue. Valarie sent a message to her sister by painting and let her know how happy she was with Alec and 2 children.

I love time-travel romance books and this one was very good! Valerie was a great character who falls for the man (who is not of her time at all) in the book. It is a love story that transcends time and space! There is mystery in intrigue--I don't even know if the historical facts are accurate, but it makes for an interesting read.
Perhaps it might be a secret fantasy of mine, but the idea of inadvertently stepping back in time to a magnificent manor in seventeenth-century England no less, is absolutely spellbinding. Back to a time where men behaved with chivalry, beauty was less contrived, and dangers loomed large with far greater consequences than today. I enjoyed this book like a chocoholic savoring a truffle.

I was born in Moscow, Russia during the hight of Communism and "enjoyed" the life of an average Russian child until my family's immigration to the United States in 1982. We settled in Brooklyn, NY where I finished school and then graduated from Bernard M. Baruch College in New York City with a degree in International Business. Despite my business degree, history and travel have always been my pass...more
