Whenever I read a book that is coauthored by a writer I'm familiar with, I can't stop the internal analysis that tries to pick apart the individual contributions. Now four books into the Belador series, and especially having read this immediately after the latest Dark-Hunter volume, I can only conclude that Love is doing the heavy lifting on this series and it's all to the good. So when the Belador series started, I wasn't a huge fan of it even though I love Sherrilyn Kenyon and Diana Love as a writing team. They have another series called BAD and I totally loved that series but when they started this one.....let's just say the first book in the Belador series was a bit shaky. They were world building and it's very difficult for a first book to establish a good story, a believable world and let alone be written by two very different authors. I remember 2011 Comic Con wh...more So when the Belador series started, I wasn't a huge fan of it even though I love Sherrilyn Kenyon and Diana Love as a writing team. They have another series called BAD and I totally loved that series but when they started this one.....let's just say the first book in the Belador series was a bit shaky. They were world building and it's very difficult for a first book to establish a good story, a believable world and let alone be written by two very different authors. I remember 2011 Comic Con when Sherrilyn Kenyon was asked about her joint writing and you kinda got the feeling it wasn't as easy as you might think. Anywho, long story short, I love the team and decided to stick with the series and boy am I glad I did. I actually listened to this one on audiobook because I absolutely love Holter Graham. He reads most of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books and his voice is like sex and chocolate all rolled into one, LOL yep I said it!
So if you don't know anything about the series, it's basically more Urban Fantasy then Paranormal Romance. It has more mythological creatures, goddesses, warriors, shape shifters, a cute pet gargoyle and centers around your heroin Evalle Kincaid. She's a kick-ass chick who shifts into a huge beast and is part of a race called Alterants. There's very few of them around and she's on a mission to have them recognized as a race. She also belongs to a squad of warriors (VIPER) who protect the human race from supernatural threats. There's also a very very very slow romance triangle between Evalle, a shapeshifter/Skinwalker named Storm and a Black Ops specialist named Isak Nyght. This book picks up about 3 weeks after the second book ended.
I actually very much enjoyed this book. I thought the writing finally flowed nicely between authors, made sense and was action packed! I loved that we learned more of the back story of some of the characters. Saw a lot of interplay and interwoven stories that will help take this series and turn it into way more books. I thought the writing was great and basically wiped the first two book under the rug (at least for me). I also loved getting to learn more about Storm. I am totally team Storm BTW (love me some shifters)! We also got to read/hear more about the power plays going on behind the scenes that involve the Alterants/Evalle. Seems everyone has an agenda. We additionally find out what Evalle and Tristin are evolving into (totally won't do spoilers). We also got to learn more about her two partners, Tzader and Quinn. See this is why I need more coffee.
Anyways, If you like the series, you'll love this addition to the story. It's fun, flows nicely and is ultimately a wonderful story!(less)

My Take
There's certainly no lack of action in this story even if it is only a bridge novel. Nothing major gets settled and Kenyon/Love simply continue to tease us along. You should really read the first two in the series before you read this one. So much that occurs in The Curse refers back to Blood Trinity and Alterant .

When we left off with Evalle in Alterant, she had escaped a lifetime of being locked up and death only by the grace of God. Or I should say A goddess. Evalle was whisked away to VIPER headquarters, after failing to turn over any other Alterants, right before she saw the wonderfully handsome and allusive Storm being badly beaten and left for dead.

Now Evalle has been granted a reprieve. A goddess has stepped up and claims that she will take responsibility and acknowledge Alterants (beings with Bel...more When we left off with Evalle in Alterant, she had escaped a lifetime of being locked up and death only by the grace of God. Or I should say A goddess. Evalle was whisked away to VIPER headquarters, after failing to turn over any other Alterants, right before she saw the wonderfully handsome and allusive Storm being badly beaten and left for dead.

Now Evalle has been granted a reprieve. It may be a trick, but really, Evalle has no other choice. This is her chance to stop being afraid of being taken away forever.

It has been weeks and Evalle still has not seen Storm. She received an email from someone claiming to be Storm but she has a feeling it isn't legit. The pain Evalle feels from Storm's absence is something that Evalle doesn't know how to deal with very well. She is hell on wheels and people are keeping their distance claiming that they don't want to deal with "EMS" (Evalle Missing Storm). Even though Evalle would like nothing more than to search for Storm, she took an oath and she needs to find more Alterants. Life must go on.

In downtown, Atlanta (yes!!!), gang wars are breaking out like wildfire and now there are Trolls in the mix. Not your friendly trolls that you have to answer a riddle to let you pass, but huge ugly ones who are really hard to kill. Not to mention they make a nasty mess when you do manage to kill them. The Beladore's have been calling in Sin, an unknown man who hates all things Evalle and pretty much everyone else, to help clean up the mess the Trolls leaves behind. There must be another way.

Enter Isak Nyght: A human man who runs a tactical team who hunts the supernatural. He HATES all things Alterant and hunts them down. His best friend was murdered by an Alterant. He has a thing for Evalle and even once kidnapped her so she would not have the chance to stand him up, once again, for a dinner date. Oh, he has no idea that Evalle is an Alterant, and Evalle wants to keep it that way. But, Isak has some of the best weapons out there and has a weapon that will kill the Trolls and leave no mess. What is a girl to do?

Storm comes out of a fog with one thought, die or wake up. His spirit guide tells him he has been out of it on the brink of death for weeks and now is the time to decide. Wake up or pass on to the next life. Storm has no soul, so dying is not an option, so is never seeing Evalle again. The fight to finally wake up is horrible, but Storm has too many things that he needs to do. When he finally can open his eyes, Storm is disappointed to find that Evalle is not the one who has been taking care of him. A VIPER witch who is sometimes a good guy and who Evalle is absolutely jealous of has been nursing him back to health. Evalle is going to be so pissed.

It seems that Storm could not have come back at a better time. Evalle, once again, has a mission given to her by the gods that is impossible. Storm wants nothing more than to take her away from all of this mess and hide her from all of the people who want to hurt her. But Storm knows that Evalle loves being a Beladore and she would never run away from her duties, it is part of the reason Storm feels so deeply about her. Now if Storm could just figure out how to get rid of this Isak Nyght character. Storm's skin crawls every time he sees that...man...look at his Evalle. Evalle is HIS, not some human man who does not know how wonderful a creature Evalle really is.

The Curse, is Sherrilyn Kenyon's and Dianna Love's third book in their Beladore series. Evalle needs to get the weapon from Nyght without letting him know VIPER business, find more Alterants to come and join her ranks to help them become an acknowledged race, help Storm track a witch doctor, and protect the Beladore leader, Brina from attack. But when the real fight is on, Evalle has to make a choice...one that can get her killed on the spot. Just a normal day in the life of Evalle Kincaid.

If you have not read this series, you are seriously missing out. I am going to be honest, I read the first book in this series because it takes place in Atlanta, where I am from. So the setting is what got me to buy it, BUT, the story and the Characters are what kept me invested in the series. Evalle is so bad ass but also tragically human that it breaks my heart and has me routing for her like she were my sister. Every character has a purpose and I love finding out what that is. Read this book and take this journey. You will not be let down. I promise you!

The Curse is book 3 in the Belador series. This is a complex story and is hard to follow if you have not read the other books. You could read it but would be confusing.
This is a clean read to enjoy. I hated to have put it down like I did.
Most of the story takes place in Atlanta. Some in different world.
A group of Belador warriors are fighting for Viper to protect humans. The Belador also have to protect thier warrior queen.

I literally consumed this book in a day, action packed from start to finish you barely have time to catch your breath before Evalle is thrust into some life threatening situation whether it be killing evil trolls or the goddess Macha demanding impossible results. This series, is so addicting to me. Evalle is one kicked, beaten, hunted, misunderstood, mistrusted, character. With all her battered history she still fights for others, still puts others first. She is strong, inside and out. She lives with what has been dished out to her and makes the best of it.
Storm-I love Storm, and Evalle. Storm with his lusty black panther strolling around makes me curl at the toes. He had been gone, missing and is now back. Evalle, is his'want' but what are her feelings...more

I really love this series. The third book in an ongoing series by two wonderful authors, The Curse is now added to one of my favorite books of 2012!!! Honestly after The League, this series is my favorite by this author. Evalle and Storm are a dominating duo in this one. Though to be honest there isn't much plot development carried over from the previous novels, we do find out a bit more about Alterants. And no I won't spoil the surprise. ;P

I really love this series and if you haven't looked into it yet, you really need to. Each book is better than the last.

I just finished reading The Curse. I would have done so sooner but I got it the week of Dragon*con which slowed me up.

However, the last couple of days I just flew through this story.

The Belador...more I was very, very, very fortunate enough to be sent an advanced copy of The Curse, the third book of Sherrilyn Kenyon & Dianna Love's Belador series which comes out September 18, 2012. I really love this series and if you haven't looked into it yet, you really need to. Each book is better than the last.

I just finished reading The Curse. I would have done so sooner but I got it the week of Dragon*con which slowed me up.

However, the last couple of days I just flew through this story.

The Beladors are pretty much superhumans without actually being human. They look human but they can talk to each other telepathically and have super speed, etc. Many of them work for an organization called VIPER which is made up of nonhumans who are out to protect humans.

We, mainly, follow Evalle who is an Alterant. This is a half-Belador, half-something else. Not even Evalle knows what her fully genetic history is but whatever it is makes it so she can shift into an Alterant form - pretty much a mega powerful monster. The other Beladors fear her for just this reason even though she's spent the past 5 years of her life working to protect mankind and her Belador tribe. This is Evalle's story as she fights for her right to exist.

In The Curse, Evalle has been set on an impossible task, or rather, many tasks. She must find out what the other line of her DNA is, what makes her Alterant. She must also find other Alterants to pledge themselves to the Belador Goddess, Mecha, who is, for a limited time only, offering up the golden opportunity to be protected under Mecha's pantheon and seen as a real race and not just beasts to be destroyed however, the Alterants she knows about aren't really answering her call.

To make matters worst, a special group of black-ops trolls have overrun Atlanta, starting gang wars.

We get to find out what's going on with characters in the previous book, such as the mystery of Storm and the email - is he really alive? If not, who sent that email saying he was? Tzader and his vow to give up his true love, Brina, and if he can really do it to appease his goddess.

I have to say, the story that had me biting my nails the most - other than Evalle's of course, is Quinn and the major mistakes he's made. Oh, and a family member whose decided now is the best time to pop into town. That is a character I really enjoyed and I cannot wait to see more of her in future stories. Of course, this particular relative can't just show up for sight seeing, oh no. She brings with her a whole new slew of problems.

Man I feel greedy. I just finished this book and can't wait for the next one.(less)

Evalle is half Belador, warrior race that fights to protect humans, and half Alterant, Belador mixed with unknown blood that shifts into a dangerous beast that's caused them to be feared and hunted. She's allowed to battle alongside the Beladors but is under constant watch and always has someone out to find a reason to lock her away. Evalle was born with the odds stacked against her but she doesn't wallow in self-pity. Instead, she fights for the innocent to show she's not a monster. Evalle isn't perfect, she likes to put herself in situations where she's over her head, but her faults in addition to her many strengths is what makes her a wonderful heroine.

There are a few bumps in the road in Evalle's new relationship with the Skinwalker (shapeshifter) Storm in the form of a human hunter. I'm not a fan of love triangles and I liked with the way things ended in this book but that possibility hasn't been completely dismissed. For now I'm happy with the way things are but that could easily change if the authors push Evalle towards the Alterant hating Isak. The chemistry between Evalle and Storm gets better each time they're together and I'd have a hard time seeing that change.

This book picks up not long after the last one ended. Evalle's to do list is out of control. She needs to find the Belador who sold them out to the Medb (evil witches/wizards), convince Tristen (a free Alternant with his own agenda) to swear loyalty to and reveal secrets to a goddess he hates, stop Trolls from terrorizing Atlanta and capturing Alternants and those are just the things she's aware of. But she's not fighting alone. At her side is Storm and her Belador friends Tzader and Quinn, strong supporting characters that have their own interesting side stories taking place.

Evalle guards herself against outsiders but she's opening up and revealing a little more with each book, adding well developed layers to her character. With Evalle taking the lead, The Curse offers action and a few surprise twists that went great alongside the bit of romance and personal turmoil that takes place. Like with most Urban Fantasy books, to fully understand what's happening in this series you need to go back to book one.

I really enjoy the Belador series. I think it's because the heroine, Evalle, is just so damn easy to root for. She has been kicked down, abused, and maligned her entire life. She is considered a monster, even by those she lives to protect. But she never wavers. She never acts dishonorably. She simply accepts those things about herself that she can not change and she soldiers on, always fighting the good fight.

I think it's because the heroine, Evalle, is just so damn easy to root for. She has been kicked down, abused, and maligned her entire life. She is considered a monster, even by those she lives to protect. But she never wavers. She never acts dishonorably. She simply accepts those things about herself that she can not change and she soldiers on, always fighting the good fight.

As this third installment of her story begins, she is on the hunt for others of her kind. The goddess who oversees the Beladors has agreed to recognize Alterants as a race within her pantheon. But only if Evalle can bring them forward and they swear their fealty. First and foremost, she wants to find Tristan, but her search has been stymied by a rash of troll attacks in the Atlanta area. She must work with her VIPER team-mates to protect the humans.

On top of that, Storm is missing. And as he slowly reenters the picture, she must continue to come to terms with her feelings for him. (And Isaak too.) There is strain in her friendship with Quinn... let's not forget that he led the Medb to her at the end of the last book. He is trying to deal with his feeling for Kazira --while poor Tzader tries to honor his vow to let Brina go.

Plus... more trolls. Giant, black-ops, demon-infused, bounty-hunter trolls.

It's all part of the Medb plan to breach Brina's sanctuary and vanquish the Beladors. There's a lot of scheming, machinations and betrayals. There's also much violence and bloodshed. You won't find many dull moments.

However, I don't feel like we moved forward much here. Don't get me wrong, I was never bored. I was invested in the characters and deeply ensconced in this very complicated world. But in many ways this installment was almost like a placeholder. There were no huge developments in any of the relationships --and there are a lot of relationships at play. No big revelations about the Alterant race. No big movement in the war with Medb. I mean, stuff happens, it's just nothing game changing.

Did I enjoy the book? Absolutely. I love Evalle. I love Storm. And I am dying for Brina and Tzader to have some happiness. Or at least get on the path to it. It feels a little stalled, though. I wanted more. It all sort of seemed like baby steps. I'm ready for these characters to make some strides.

If you're interested in the Belador series, I strongly urge you to start from the beginning with Blood Trinity. I just don't think this is a series where you want to jump in, mid-way through.

If you want non-stop action, intrigue and hot heroes and heroines this is the series for you. I am tired for Evalle and company. Poor buggers don’t get a break. I recommend you read the first two books before this. You could jump in but you would miss a lot of the dynamics that it took to get these characters to where they are. Besides they too are terrific reads.

Feel free to read other reviews for the plot. Great addition to the Beladors. BUT, I didn't feel like it accomplished much to advance the overarching storyline. Action was great and the characters are well developed. I get the concept of a continuing story, but I guess I want some closure. This book did not provide that. If anything it left MORE questions. I love this series and the world they have created. I guess my real problem is I have to wait FOREVER for the next one. Wish authors could wr...more

She seems bemused by the fact that men react to her at all.
She sees herself as a warrior... but as an Alterant, she has a beast within and it seems that she feels unworthy of their regard.

But Storm comes back (almost from the dead) to see her and suddenly she feels emotions she cannot describe...

But the demonic Svart Trolls invading Atlanta are only the beginning of Evalle’s problems. The Beladors’ enemies are more determined than ever to take out all those Evalle holds dear. And they want to use Evalle to do it. The clock’s ticking and with evil always a step ahead, Evalle might have to sacrifice everything — even her freedom — to save the Beladors.

The world of the Beladors gets a lot more complex in THE CURSE. Authors Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love take readers on a fantastic journey filled with twists, turns and non-stop action.

At the heart of THE CURSE is Evalle, the tough-as-nails heroine I absolutely adore. Mses. Kenyon and Love couldn’t have created a better heroine to center the series around for Evalle is undeniably strong, but also deeply wounded and incredibly caring. The softer side of her comes out more in THE CURSE than it has in the previous BELADOR books, as a shadow is cast over her relationships with those she loves most in the world.

It’s difficult, if not impossible, to talk about THE CURSE without spoiling some of the excitement of a reader’s journey. Mses. Kenyon and Love reveal more of the history of the Beladors, Alterants, Medb and individual characters. There’s so much going on in THE CURSE that almost every page reveals new information. Because of this, I highly recommend reading the first two BELADOR books, BLOOD TRINITY and ALTERANT, before reading THE CURSE.

THE CURSE is an engaging story, but it’s definitely what I would label a “bridge book.” A lot of necessary information is conveyed and the setup for bigger battles occurs, but there isn’t much in the way of resolution. In all honesty, this didn’t bother me. It did, however, leave me very eager to read the next BELADOR book. I cannot wait to see what Mses. Kenyon and Love have in store for Evalle and her friends!

First I will say I love the basic story lines and there are many. I was most disappointed by how this book ended, I though i was turning the page for the next chapter and it went to the pronunciation guide for character names..like uh... there are way too many open ends and i need info, how could this be the end?

Why don't I trust Macha?
What is going on between Storm and Evalle?
Is Tristan going to change back into a human form or will he stay as his new form?
What about Tzader and Brina?
Can Kizira...more

When last we saw Evalle as had escaped a life time of imprisonment but promised to bring Macha a Alterant that would pledge to her.
This sounded like it could be done, Tristan would jump at the possibility to save their kind she thought..and then things got progressively worse.
Thoughts and accusations of Quinn being a traitor, Izak trying to kill any non human, a rash of Troll attacks across the city and then to top it off Storm.

The Curse by Sherrilyn Kenyon is book 3 in The Beladors series. It is a great addition to the series. Picking up shortly after it left off in the previous book. In this book you meet a few new characters and a new kinds of "non humans". We also get a little more info on the Beladors. The book takes you on a crazy roller coaster of emotions. I love Sherrilyn...this though...not the best and not sure why...little things irked me...like when other characters were the focus...instead of just their speech being in character...ever'thing else was...not sure if I am explaining it right but...if one character speaks with ha instead of have or has...the rest of the chapter did it even when the character was not speaking...kind of irritated me and made me want to jump over those parts...but on the other hand...I loved all the interaction wit...more

As usual I was not disappointed with Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love's Belador Series. I am growing weary of the "love dance" Evalle and Storm seem to be doing. Can they just get together already?!?

The plot line is awesome and the action is nonstop. If you're a fan of SK's Dark-Hunter series, then this one is for you. This is the third installment and these two ladies show no sign of slowing down!

I haven't read any of the books that were before The Curse but this book pulled me in from the beginning. I can't wait to read the other parts of this series and see how Evalle and Storm's story will turn out, also how Brina's plan does or doesn't work out. Very cool to see a different side to the supernatural world many authors write about.

Though I love this series, Evalle is an amazing heroine, this book did leave me wanting more progression in the story line! But I will forever be a fan! hopefully there will be more details about Lanna and Grendel. Anyways, I do love the characters, Storm is my favorite, by the way. Thanks for a wonderful world to be immersed in.

This was a great installment in the Belador series. I am glad to finally see some progress and or growth in Evalle. The story was interesting and I enjoyed catching up with the characters in this world. My only complaint is there is so much time in between book releases that I find it takes me several chapters to get my brain back on track of who is who and what is what. I think in the future I might need to read the previous books again before I start the new release. Funny, I don't seem to hav...more

Great read. Lots going on. Was about ready to get as frustrated as Evalle, hahahahaha
Everyone wants something from her. How can she keep all that straight and all the deals she's had to make.
I hope she stays with Storm, but how will things work out with Isak and not cause bad feelings.
Will be interesting to see how all works out, in next book :-D

Three. THREE books and and she only get maybe 90 minutes of sleep. This book had me on the edge from cover to cover. Where most 3rd books in series disappoints, this one delivers stronger then the previous two. It deserves every star I gave it.
