There's Cock In This Book (Hockey #0.5)
by
Isa K. (Goodreads Author)
Mac D knows the score. He's not ashamed of being gay, it would just make his professional situation complicated. As long as a major league hockey career is still a possibility, he'll play along with their "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy and ignore the homophobic hazing rituals passed off as team bonding.

I don't know what this book is about but I'm planning on reading it for the title alone.
3.5 stars. Good short m/m story about a deeply closeted minor league hockey player who survives by keeping his head down and blending in... until the new guy on the team hits on him. With a bit more proofing and a less abrupt ending, this would have been a 4.5 star read.
Reread: I should've refreshed my memory and reread this before reading How To Quit Playing Hockey...

I picked up this short freebie mostly for the title, but I ended up enjoying it more than I expected. Isa K.'s writing is smart and funny and has a nice flow to it. I just wish the editing were a bit better. Most of the editing problems are just minor typos, but there are a lot of them. There is one instance where the author wrote "preference," when I can only assume from the context she meant "preface." Editing issues aside, the whole story is worth reading for this one sentence:

This is a short story about two professional minor-league hockey players who both happen to be gay and by coincidence end up as roommates. Although it seems obvious to Mac that Fritzy and he are attracted to each other, Mac is determined to keep their relationship platonic and professional. When the couple finally find themselves alone together, Fritzy propositions Mac, and they do the nasty.

A lovely short story about a gay young man who purposefully hides his sexual preference as it would only hinder his interaction with the hockey team and his chances to be selected by a better team.

This title just cracks me up. Maybe it should be: There's Stick Handling in this Book or He Shoots He Scores. ;)
This is a fun little prequel freebie where we meet Mac D and Fritzy, the young hockey players from How To Quit Playing Hockey. A definite must read before you start that book.

Since I read this prequel AFTER I read How To Quit Playing Hockey, it becomes only a "nice" introduction to Mac and Fritz. It doesn't have the complete self-journey that the sequel have (then again, the sequel is a full-length novel, this one is only a short one). However, it's interesting to see that in this prequel, Fritz is the one approaching Mac. In the sequel, Fritz comes on as slightly the passive one -- the one that keeps his thoughts inside, even if he acts more lively around M...more

It's a nice, sweet book. Mac is not virgin to girls but he is to man. Simply because he's never met anyone he likes. He's not into clubbing, musical, or other things that young gay men 'suppose' to like. He's very much into sport, particularly hockey. So, when he meet Fritz, he's happy and scared at the same time.
I love reading a book when gay man choose to be different from other gay men. No, I don't talk about being feminine/masculine type. I'm talking about their behaviors. Sometime...more

Good effort at building the characters, they come across as real and no-nonsense. The setting for them is good, too, and about what you would expect for such a violent sport.
Though I did like both Mac and Fritzy and could empathize with their behavior, it still left me feeling a bit hollow. The way it all played out felt coerced in some way. Mind you, the sex was 'out of this world' hot, and I chuckled a time or two at their competitiveness. Then the end was so unexpected and pulled me up short...more

I absolutely adored this book. It was sweet, sexy and cute. Mac was just so adorable, IMO. And Fritzy was totally delicious. Fritzy's last words to Mac just about made me melt, it was so sweet. Loved the banter between Mac and Fritzy and the fact that it revolves around hockey. Totally wished it had been longer because I could not get enough of these two!
P.S. This title made me crack up

I loved this story! 4 1/2 stars. There were a few typos, but, overall, it was very well written. As if hockey players weren't hot enough! I loved the build up and banter between Fritzy and Mac and could easily picture these guys together. I didn't like the rather abrupt ending, however. I really wished it were longer.
I wavered between giving this 3 or 4 stars. Ended up just giving it three because it was just too short!
I really liked Fritzy though and the last line from him especially. :) And the sex was pretty good, not Cut & Run or Hot Head level of good, but still good.
All in all, a nice, very quick, m/m read.

I really liked this short story a lot. The characters were likable and had chemistry, it was well written and the sex was HOT! My only complaint? It was way too short! I wanted more of Mac and Fritzy's story. I would love to read a full length novel about these guys. Please?!;-)

This was hot!!! Who can resist a man-virgin!! Would love to know the rest of Mac and Fritzy's story.
