I decided to hold off on a big review until I'd finished the whole series, so except for a few notes here and there (and a few attempts of full reports at the beginning) this is the review of the whole series.
The Left Behind series chronicles a "what if" journey of the events in the New Testament's Book of Revelations. From the moment when a good portion of Christians are raptured, the rest of the world is left wondering what happened. Many already know and are left to att More...

Hold on to your britches, here come the bible passages. And there are LOTS of them. Sort of hard to find the story in the middle of them sometimes.
Which, I get, is the point of the whole series. But having read it mostly for fiction value, it was a major bog down.
My favorite part? The concept of getting to see and meet every Old Testament saint, and mingling with them for a millenium. Very cool.

For sheer unintentional comedy value, you can't beat this final (almost) volume in the LEFT BEHIND saga. At last the PRINCE of PEACE returns, and what does HE do? Slaughters people by the millions! But they're sinners, so it's okay. No really, it's okay! HE says so.
I read this mainly for the gory bits: JESUS CHRIST LORD OF LORDS blasting people apart with his Voice o' Doom; Chucking the AntiChrist and False Prophet into Hell; throwing everyone else who wasn't a True Believer into Hel More...

I shall have to say, I REALLY liked this one. The entire story after Jesus came back to earth had me in tears. One part of me can't WAIT for that to happen - another part of me is scared that it'll happen too soon, because I'm not sure all my loved ones are saved yet.

This book touched me so deeply. The visuals of God speaking to each person at the same time, but each hearing their own name was just breathtaking to me. Especially to imagine that the reality, when it comes, will be even more fantastic that we can imagine. I am thankful to have read this and was left with beautiful images of Christ and God's love for each of us. Just wonderful.

I have to say I was most disappointed with this final installment of the Left Behind series. It was almost as if the authors let out a huge sigh of relief -- "We're finally there" -- and just copy/pasted from the Bible, along with a few poorly written insights from now one-dimensional characters.
The first issue with this book is the writing style. Overly simplistic, staccato writing -- no sense of flow, tension or relief. Almost static, I'd say. Additionally, the overuse of More...

Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins in their book “Glorious Appearing” Book Twelve in the Left Behind series published by Tyndale House Publishers brings us to the end of days.
There are some who believe that the rapture will signal the beginning of the seven years of tribulation. This is untrue. The rapture, or the removal of the believers, is the signal for the events that trigger the tribulation to occur. Although the first half and very last pages didn't amaze-amaze me, and I'd wonder while reading if it could be better, overall of course it is amazing. I've read other books where an author takes extreme priveledges in presenting Christ for today but with this, the last book of the series, Lahaye and Jenkins use the biblical words, warnings and promises of Christ. Once Satan is dealt with, it is moving, sweet, full of hope and love.

"We've only got a thousand years."
These were the words of Rayford Steele talking to his son after all of the believers were reunited together after the Glorious Appearing. By a thousand years, Rayford was talking about the millennial kingdom that Christ had set up on Earth. Glorious Appearing
“Glorious Appearing” is the twelfth book in the acclaimed “Left Behind” series, which relates the story of the events leading up to the Second Coming of God to set up his Millennial Kingdom. In this novel, the battle of Armageddon is in full swing, with the forces of the indwelt Antichrist, Nicolae Carpathia, pitted against the Christian rebels attempting to hold the city of Jeruslem, all the while awaiting the return of Jesus with the Heavenly Host. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the first eleven books in the series. You could be a young adult, or a 70 year old man or woman, and still enjoy this book. This book is amazingly accurate when it comes to the subject of the end of the world as prophesized in the last book of the Bible, Revelations. I personally have read it multiple times so I know this. My favorite character, besides Jesus Himself, was probably Rayford. The reason for that was because he was the character

Undercover in enemy forces Mac goes to Jerusalem in search of Buck. Mac witnesses the cruelty of Carpathia and his followers first hand as the believers in Petra are being threatened. Rayford clings to life following an ATV accident. Chaim speaks conforting words to his audience despite the warnings of Carpathia. Miracles happen in anticipation of Christ's return.

I'm attempting to finish this series on principle only. I didn't enjoy the author's writing style. The phrase "It was all I could do to ...." popped up way too often. The story got a bit repetitive and things seemed just too convenient and not in a "because God meant it to be so" sort of way. It was more of a lack of creative ways to make a story line progress.

I should have left this book behind at the library! Out of all 12 books, this one was by far the most ridiculous. I can't believe I read them all - I'm still not sure how I managed that feat!
The authors stretched the arrival of Jesus to 400 pages. I could have done it in four sentences. (Jesus comes. Bad people die. Good people are reunited with their loved ones. The end.) At this point, the characters are almost cartoonish. Carpathia and Leon are so ridiculous, they could have be More...

The Left Behind series was a great interpretation of the last days, even if not from an LDS perspective. I really enjoyed the middle volumes, especially Assassins (it was in real-time, which I'm a sucker for). The balance between secular and religious was well-treated, and I liked the flow of most books. Half way through the series the "voice" changed from only two characters to five or six, which took some time to get used to. The final volume, Glorious Appearing, features Christ comi

Listening to book on cd, so I'm on disc 5 of 10, listening in the car.
4/17: Finished the book. Gotta say, think it was the worst of the bunch. I tried reading it years ago when it was released, and barely got through 2 chapters. Tried it this time with the audio cd, and it was better, but still very slow and ...boring. A terrible ending to the entire series. There was so much more that could have been done with this finale. Character development - nonexistent. Plot development - nearly none. The first two-thirds of this book read like an extended Bible tract. What is brought forth in 300-plus pages could just as easily have been accomplished in a front-back printing on a single sheet of paper, which would be stuck under your windshield wiper at the local mall. The last third of the book comes off like an award

This culmination to the great Left Behind series is amazing.
Though it has been a while since I read this book, I still remember my favorite part: slight spoiler:
One of the main characters looks at Jesus at His appearing and cries, "Unworthy! Unworthy!" about himself. Jesus looks him straight in the eye and replies, "Justified."
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firs More...

This is the last book of the series that I read because it ends where the Bible ends and where else do you go from there except to "add" to the Bible and I'm pretty sure God wouldn't be too happy about that. Plus, I gave it such a low rating because how can any simple, finite person ever accurately describe what it will be like when this world is over, Jesus comes with a new heaven and a new earth and sets up his kingdom for eternity. The words don't exist to write it anywhere near the

Gloirous Appearing is the 12th and last book in the Left Behind series that takes the prophecies in Isaiah very literally, and describes the tribulations that are predicted to occur on earth during the tumultuous few years preceeding the second coming of Christ. This review is a four-star recommendation for the entire series and its unapologetic message that prophecies were made to come true, and that only the most faithful people and those with sufficient faith to endure quite literally to

This is my favorite book of all time......well so far. LOL I'm a true believer in the 2nd coming of Christ, and this book paints an exciting, thrilling picture of what the second coming might be like. My favorite part is when Satan, the antichrist, and the false prophet are brought before Jesus on his throne and sentenced to the lake of fire. I loved how Jesus confronted Satan and named every one of his sins since his creation. Then disposed of him quickly and easily. Hehe. Even if you don'

the "left behind" books were all kind of awful; i started reading them one summer and kept going because a.) they were all in the church library and there was little else for me to read at the time, living at home, and b.) i was curious to see how the authors were going to wrap it up. i read this final installment as an assignment in a Bible college course on Revelation. these books all espouse a premillinial dispensationlist theology, which i fundamentally disagree with, and i think

When you imagine reading a fictional novel, do you dream of reading verses taken straight from the New Testament? Do you like seeing characters stretched to unholy, unbelievable and cartoonish extents? Do you like your heroes to be shielded from all harm and there to be absolutely no tension in a Big Final Battle? Do you like romance thrown in awkwardly? Do you like reading lines upon lines that say the same thing over and over again?
Then this book is for you!

Left behind was a great series. I never imagined a serious book about religion could be written as a fast-paced high-tech thriller. I really enjoyed these books enormously. I would recommend them to anyone who seeks a quick and easy way to get acquainted with protestant tradition and its vision of God and salvation. The only reason really why I gave the books only 4 stars is that I found the vision itself quite ridiculous. I respect God a lot as a superior being. Therefore it’s hard for me to ac

Finally! After reading 5,850 pages (yes I really did count them all) Jesus came.
This was my least favorite of the who series (well, actually The Rising is my least favorite ... but that's because it felt so evil.)
The reason I didn't like this book is because nothing really happened (yes, I realize that sounds absurd knowing that Jesus came). The book was made up of about 325 pages of scriptures and preaching about about 75 pages of actual story line (yes, that's probabl More...

a good read. i read these twelve as soon as i could purchase them. the last two, i think i bought on-line. entertaining story. reading through some of them, though, not all, a few--so i've read the previous and now i'm on the next...you're waiting for the...moment you've been waiting for...but that doesn't come until the end. a complaint? yeah, i spose it is, and it is probably unwarranted. and maybe that is the point, or there is a point to that part of the telling. enjoyed each story i

The Left behind books were a great series written by 2 former pastors about fictional characters and how they live through the last days according to their interpretation of the Bible. I really loved this series until I read this last book. In fact I really didn't want to finish it but felt since it was the 12th and final book I needed to. I truly wished they had ended the series with the book Armageddon. I guess I don't want to read someone else's fictional interpretation of the savior.

Borrowed from the Commerce Public Library.
Well, I finished the series. I was caught up in the stories, so I read every book and they were mostly OK, but the inconsistencies drove me batty. I don't go along with the religion of it and suspect that the popularity of the books is mostly due to preaching to the choir. The last book just gets two stars from me because it just rambled on and could have told the last part of the story with half as many pages. It's drawn out by lots of repetition More...

I got about half way through the book and had to put it down. This is where the story left me behind. The book has Jesus coming down from the heavens and then Jesus starts talking to the characters and I lost it. I couldn't even finish the book. I thought the whole point of the series was to follow along with the bible as closely as possible, and then they start with Jesus and what Jesus would say and do on earth, I didn't like it and I didn't finish it.
