Ros
by
Dee DeTarsio (Goodreads Author)
If you are looking for something different to read, Ros is a chick-lit buddy-book hybrid, a little Starman meets ET, filled with adventure, love and friendship. Dedicated to goddess Marian Keyes. Tough sell, good read! (Stephen King would hate it.)

I’m happy that I was one of the chosen few who won this off of Goodreads Giveaways because it is lighthearted and fun. The narrator, Micki, gets an unexpected visitor in her backyard one evening, a very alien sort of visitor. The extraterrestrial, Ros, has crashed landed on Earth in search of her brother (the original alien from Roswell). Unfortunately she is too late to save him but now she must get back to her asteroid in 48 hours or else the gravity of this planet will crush her. Micki vows t...more
Warning: The drinking of hot or staining liquids while reading this book is not recommended. ROS made me laugh out loud. A lot. And I mean spit-take worthy eruptions of laughter. I usually don't seek humor in my book selections, but DeTarsio's style as a reviewer on Reader Unboxed gave me the push to give her prose a try. And, wow, am I glad I did. I knew I was in for something special when I clicked my Kindle page button at the end of chapter one. Chapter two is uniquely hilarious. I'll leave i...more
Dee DeTarsio may write Chick Lit, but her books are never just that. They always include elements you’d expect in other genres and almost never see in Chick Lit, like action-adventure (which features in both of her books I’ve read ) or even a science fiction element, as in the alien this book is named after. These additions are fun and entertaining. They allow DeTarsio to take the story in directions you wouldn’t typically see in Chick Lit.

If laughter is the best medicine, then this book will be your pharmacy! While I was reading it, the people around me were treated to frequent guffaws, shouts of laughter and extended howls of mirth.
The book starts with a bang. Literally! As the story is written from a first person perspective, the reader gets a good look into Micki's thoughts and inner dialogue, which is mostly hilarious but also touching at times. Enter Rhoda, the self centered former mother-in-law, who suffers from both Alzhei...more

I liked this cute story about an alien and the earthling who tries to help her find her way back home. Zany and over the top yet very entertaining. You can read my take here .

I really enjoyed the first two books from Dee DeTarsio - The Scent of Jade and The Kitchen Shrink – so I was excited when she contacted me regarding her latest story – Ros. I was intrigued because this story featured Ros, basically an alien from the future that time-traveled back in time and planets to try to figure out what happened to her brother. Heroine Micki has to try to figure out how to hide this extra-terrestrial from the military, her mother-in-law, and her cat – who is featured pretty...more
I don't know her personally, but I still know Dee DeTarsio is delightful. A delightful person and a delightful writer. My review of her Hawaiian mystery Haole Wood happened to come out on my birthday last month. When she saw this on Facebook, she sent me an Amazon gift of her book Ros. I was touched by her thoughtfulness. . .and here I go again. . .and I am delighted to report that Ros was delightful. ;)

I was offered 'Ros' as part of Goodreads First Reads programme and to be totally honest, was a little apprehensive as the 'chick lit' genre is not one I would primarily opt for when selecting a book to read. Having finished the book, I would say this is more than just a chick lit novel - it had everything from humour to romance, from action to sci-fi.
Micki Cramer, the main character, captivated me from the get-go. Her humour, sarcasm and her internal dialogue had me grinning from ear to ear. Sh...more

Aliens? Really? Aliens aren’t my thing. Had I read the summary a little closer and used my rusty powers of deduction, I would have realized this and passed on this read. If I had, it would have taken me a lot longer to discover Dee DeTarsio. Although this wasn’t what I expected, I really enjoyed reading Ros.

When author Dee DeTarsio contacted me to review this book, she described it as a "tough sale". And I would have to say she's right- I wasn't overly excited to read a book about an alien. But I cannot express how pleasantly surprised I was when I started reading.
Micki is sarcastic, awkward, and hilarious. I loved her so much. I actually found myself laughing out loud a few times at the absolutely absurd situations Micki and Ros found themselves in. Throw in Micki's senile former mother-in-law, a...more

I liked this and the true rating for me is 3 1/2 stars.
This book was cute in a frenzied sort of way. It is a humorous chick-lit/alien story. The author has quite an inventive imagination and she writes well. If you like your chick-lit full of chaotic misadventures I think you'll love it.
For me, it was just a little bit too over-the-top. I felt just a little bit like some of the zaniness was just a little bit forced.
Overall though, it was enjoyable.

Firstly, I'd like to thank Dee DeTarsio for sending me a copy of Ros.
This book is hilarious. I have to admit, I never usually read this kind of book - I see why it is vaguely labelled chick-lit, but it's actually a whole lot more than that!
To be brutally honest, the beginning was a little slow for me... hence why it took me so long to get started with it, but now I'm kicking myself for not getting into it sooner, because I really did enjoy it.

Just not my genre. I found myself skimming around halfway through, just to complete it, and decided I didn't want to bother finishing.
It's funny and not a bad story, I just wasn't terribly interested.

I know that Ros is a tough sell and you may be thinking she's probably not for you--but I'm hoping you take a chance! I'd love to hear what you think--thanks for reading! Take care, Dee

DEE DeTARSIO is a TV writer living in southern California. After growing up in Ennui, Ohio, and graduating from The Ohio State University she vowed never to be cold again (in a tantrum more worthy of Suellen than Scarlett) and ended up in Tucson, Arizona, producing the news for the CBS affiliate, oddly enough called KOLD-TV. She moved to San Diego where she worked in the SeaWorld entertainment dep...more
