Amazing, MIND blowing and a captivating read. This PNR series surprised me with how good it is. From the compassionate, tortured characters, to this new world I suddenly stumbled across. I was immediately and completely engaged from the prologue, all the way till the end.

New Species, born to a world where their existence is filled with sorrow, humiliation and pain. A species illegally created from human and animal DNA. Chained and held in

Well....... I picked up this notorious story so I could finally assuage my raging curiosity. Going into it, I was well aware of the blaring similarities between 'Fury', (and the rest of the New Species series from Dohner) and the older, but more well-known 'Breeds' series from Lora Leigh that I, and hordes of others, (mostly) love.

After having now read it, I can say there's no denying the plot and storyline of 'Fury' is indeed quite similar to that of the 'Breeds' novels and it does bear

Fury was SUCH a wonderful book!
I was actually a bit nervous since all the reviewers on GR rated it 2-4 stars.
It's still a mystery to me as to why, because i LOVED it!

Fury has never known compassion or love. He’s spent his life in a cell, chained and abused by humans. The one woman he allowed himself to trust betrayed him. Now he’s free

Fury is intense, intriguing, fun, and extremely steamy. There are some editing issues that make the writing feel disjointed and convoluted at times (shame on you Eleanor's Cave). Other than that, I very much enjoyed this great start to the series.
3 1/2 Stars - intense, rather silly but so fun to read!

I must start by saying that I have double feelings regarding this story. On one hand, this is too cheesy, very sentimental and a bit too dramatic. There are big emotions, an overheated caveman and all obstacles that are possible. On the other hand, it is good and fun entertainment.

DNF. Sigh. This has only happened to me 3 times before, but I actually could not finish this book.

I really struggled with this one. The world/concept/story was good, but the writing was just so BAD!! And the sex was so beyond cheesy, even from the start, it was literally making me cringe and/or roll my eyes.

I stopped reading at 65%. But if I had to rate what I’d read so far, I’d give it about 2.5 stars – somewhere between ‘barely okay’ and ‘meh’.

It was just to the point where I was forcing mys
This book has a set up remarkably similar to Lora Leigh's Breed series, almost uncomfortably so. I am a big fan of LL's Breed series but as we all know, her new work is badly edited (or not edited at all) and just not up to par. So I was kind of glad to read something similar that had a decent story that entertained me. I liked the leads, the heroine had more power in this setup because there was no mating heat to tie them down. The hero is dominant but the heroine is strong enough to stand up f ...more

Laurann Dohner's New Species = Lora Leigh's Breeds with better editing (not sure if that's a compliment, as that isn't hard to accomplish, LOL)
I feel like I should be offended on Lora Leigh's behalf. This is so INCREDIBLY similar to her Breed series it borders on plagiarism, at least in my opinion. I wasn't impressed with the writing or the story and absolutely hated both lead characters. Won't be reading anymore in this series.

I am so not into books like this. Cross species and experiments and all that hundred and ten things,
But I was on this website called:
And Mistress M was raving about this author and how she loves her books and etc. So I thought okay let me check it out.

WOW!! Holy molly. This book was awesome.
All the trials and issues that Fury and Ellie had to go through.
The horrible experiments these Mercile people did, makes me wonder how these people are actually human beings.

Fury is the accurate name. Passionate + a bit Nuts.

This book is totally new to me.. I have never before read something like that..
I liked it a lot.. I also had some issues too.. But generally it was pretty nice and i will continue reading the series..

- At first i was heartbroken with the way they were treating Fury and so happy with what Ellie did.
- Fury is an Alpha Male.
- Many things happened and the story progressed a lot, it wasn't only about sex an

I enjoyed the opening book to the New Species series more than expected. Fury and Ellie meet under extreme circumstances as she saves him from a violent rape and death by a coworker.

Unfortunately she is forced to frame Fury for her actions because she is on a classified mission. Months later, Ellie meets Fury again as a free man but he feels that she owes him payment for her betrayal. His plans for retribution are misguided but he is a man obsessed!

After putting off reading this series for several months, I finally got around to it and fell in love! The writing style is amazing and the author does such an incredible job of really connecting the reader to the characters. After the horrible suffering that Fury has endured, I expected him to find his mate and move on, I was not prepared for all of the obstacles that they would have to face. I had a very hard time putting this book down, as it is very action-acked and fast moving. I can't wait ...more
Lora Leigh's Breed series is the series that got me into erotica. Recently, all my book ladies have been talking about New Species, so I rushed it to the top of my never-ending TBR list, with multiple promises that I wouldn't be disappointed.

I was definitely not disappointed! I did get the "Breed" vibe from it, but Dohner's story is her own, not a rip-off of Leigh's.

Ellie is an awesome strong female lead. She risked her life to discover what the Company was doing, and had hard choices to make t
Really enjoyed this book! Similar to LL's "breeds" but without all the horrible editing errors!
Beware very aggressive, possessive, dominating, alpha male hero! He is also really sweet when he stops trying to kill the heroine!

Very much like another 'Breeds' series.
I had a BIG problem with the author repeating A LOT! ...the constant repetition really took the essence away from the story.
This story had so much potential, and hooked me right at the beginning.. and then it just flopped.
Glad I read it, but doubt I'll read the rest of the series...too bad because the author could have done so much with it!

This was great! Love this world, and the characters. The fish out of water element, mixed with inescapable danger and hatred make you root for them all and their HEA. Loved the scenes with Ellie and the women. Can't wait to see the progressive of Homeland and the couples. On to book 2!

I’m getting the elephant out of the room first. Yes this is similar enough to be an entry in another popular series about animal/human hybrids. When I first started, I went “Oh no, I’m already reading Breeds.” Taking this story on its own merits, here are my thoughts. The star couple (Fury North & Ellie Brower), do not meet cute. Ellie is an undercover nurse at a research facility that is performing tests by combining the DNA of animals and humans to come up with a New Species and then pushi ...more
Ok so I don't know if I am being unfair here because it is entirely possible this book suffers from 1st book syndrome but I can tell you I was unimpressed.

Basic Plot-- US Government unknowingly sponsors agency/company, Mercile, who creates a New Species that splices human and animal DNA and then experiments on the subjects for military purposes. Ellie, the h, infiltrates compound, falls for test subject Fury (how original for a half man/half animal) and rescues him from being abused/raped, kill

Wow..i really liked this! It wasn't necessarily the most well written book out there but it definitely kept my interest and i really like the fact that it was VERY similar to one of my favorite series..The Breeds by Lora Leigh! There were actually a LOT of similarities between the two series, which others have noted, i thought it would be weird but for some reason it didn't bother me.

One thing that WAS kind of refreshing though was the absence of Lora Leigh's sometimes bad porn se
Thanks for the kindle loan Melissa!

I'm too lazy to do a full review, so I'm just going to jot down some quick thoughts.

It was interesting to see another take on a group of human/animal genetically altered people who had been enslaved, abused, and experimented on. I don't mind similar storylines or formulas if it works, but this one wasn't near as interesting for me. Even with a sex dominated story, Lora Leigh does it better. This one had awkward, formal dialogue and stilted writing. The reason
In the series of new species I have read Fury, Slade, Justice, Obsidian, Tiger, Wrath, and some of Valiant. I hope Ms. Dohner is ready to commit to this series because, I hate to tell you, I have at least seven new species I need you to write about. Here they are : Smiley, Flame, Brass, Jaded, Bestial, Vengeance, Midnight ( the female with the doctor), and some others. I also wish that she drops everything and writes only these for the rest of her life. I'm talking total seclusion, only getting ...more
Ughhh. I'm afraid this was not for me. Writing was ok and I think it's a series you could get into if you have enjoyed Lora Leigh's breed series. I found the ghastly he man males and wimpy females a little bleh though. Not for me!
Great hot and intense start to a series! I look forward to reading more from this author.

“Say something, anything, to remind me why I shouldn’t hurt to be with you so much it makes it hard for me to breath.”

Well that’s what I call a great start of a series! This is the first book I read from this author and I am already a fan! This story is simply awesome. I'm officially hooked!!

This is the story of Fury and Ellie. Ellie helps Fury and some(REALLY) special people like him to escape from a pharmaceutical company that uses them from different experiments. But unfortun

I have to be honest. When I first stumbled across this book I didn’t want to read it. I saw it recommended with Lora Leigh’s breed series, and a lot of reviews spoke that it was a total copy of the breed series. They are very much wrong, and I find it hard to believe they even read the book. This book is totally unique and the only thing that is ‘similar’ is human and animal DNA being spliced. As far as the rest of the plotline goes, it is unique and in its own class. For a first book in the ser ...more

I don't do this often, but I give this book 5 awesome stars!

I mean no book is perfect, but I always judge a book on 1)How much I avoid others while reading it, 2)How long I think about it afterwards, 3)How the first and last page are treated.

Fury was just so interesting to me, and it met all my criteria for awesomeness.

The premise is fairly straightforward. A medical company had created and tested on a new type of cross-breed between animals and humans. They created a new race of people, known
I took the plunge and read the first in this series after being disappointed by the 7th book, which is the first New Species book that I read.

My first book by Dohner was Ral's Woman, which I liked. The erotic and sci-fi mix is done well by Dohner, yet there is something that makes her plot less fluid than I would like. In Fury, it could be the enemy faction that the New Species face or the too quick explanations of vulnerabilities and minor detail given on the females of New Species Nation.

I like the premise of this, genetically modified humans create a breed of half animal, half human species. Fury and Ellie have major miscommunication issues at first. They are both part of the New Species home called Homeland (very original). Fury lived up to his name, he was an angry man. With reason for sure. He is half canine and half human and has been attracted to Ellie since he saw her. These species actually sounds pretty scary to me and I'm still unsure about their penis.

All in
A majority of reviewers compare this very closely to another well known authors works and I cannot disagree with them. I did feel a little uncomfortable in the beginning because of the similarites but in order to enjoy the book I had to put those feelings aside.

Once I did manage to do that I enjoyed the story and thought that it was an excellent kick off to the series. I expect their will be further similarities but I am hoping that the other books will be different enough to keep my interest or

"Kit!" Rusty shook her head. "Don't say that. You'll offend her."

Kit shrugged "She is. She's so little and cute. She yaps around trying to please like... What are they called? A Yorkie?"

Rusty sighed. "We decided she's more similar to a cute little poodle with her long blonde hair." She flashed a smile at Ellie. "Don't take it offensively please. We enjoy having you around and you amuse us to no end.”
