I wasn't sure that I'd have any interest in reading this book but I decided to give it a try not just for myself but because I thought my husband might be interested in it as well, he loved the Shack. This is a story about multiple lives that come together as the story progresses because of a homeless man named Noah. Noah is full of enthusiasm about his faith and everyone is just drawn to him. He challenges everyone to stop walking around unconscious and start living life to the fullest by findi ...more

This book was given to me through a first-reads giveways. It was a quick, interesting read. I am not certain of all the messages in this book, but one was clear- live life with an optimistic outlook and strive to be good and do good. In the last page of the book it says
"Abandon the need to impress others. There is no perfection: it's just an endless pursuit of self-indulgence. You'll miss a great deal of truth always looking straight ahead. Isolation is certainly not the answer, and exclusion i

Good Things Happened Today- Christopher Atwood

A man, a women, a family, a stranger.. all separate, yet combined together as this book unfolds. One person is the common thread between them, a homeless man named Noah. Noah with his words of faith and enlightenment, with his cheerful spirit and the ability to look deep into one’s soul, guides these people to look deeper into the lives that they live. Searching for real meaning to life, not just the wealth and status that one can obtain at the sacri

Recommends it for: Spiritual explorers
I can't say that this book is marvelously well written. I didn't realize that it was a Lulu book until I was almost done and was also thinking 'seems self published'. Ah, so it basically is, I guess. But I gave it four stars because it speaks directly to the way I strive to live my life. The message of the book sums up my own philosophical and spiritual outlook, and I enjoyed it immensely for that reason.

On a practical note, it needs another go around with a good editor.

There are a couple of p

I received this book free from the Goodreads Giveaway. I enjoyed the story and the encouragement it offered, however there were gaps in the story where much needed filler was absent. For example, why would a type A ad man leave his NYC job one day and not even struggle with the fact that he has a career make/break campaign in the works? There were other gaps, but overall, the story was entertaining and heart lifting. I would like to read a revision that fills in and details the characters. I wou ...more

This is my second reading of "Good Things Happened Today", and I am finding more to think about than during the first reading... This book about the classics conflict of good and evil is fast paced, well written and forces you to consider your own values... the conflicts experienced by the characters represent many value decisions that all of us are faced with... not "preachy", but an easy read and a real "page turner"...

This book reminded me how blessed I am and encouraged me to"help others see good; inject laughter, hope, love and faith into your days; shed light where darkness has prospered; sing where others have remained quiet; touch those that others have avoided; and to lift others up." Good things can happen when we abandon the need to impress others.

This book is a wonderful read. I kind of did not like the main character at first, but he did grow on me. This book is spiritual and intwines the characters together. Wonderful! Really makes you think.

I got it free with one of the goodreads giveaways! I did enjoy the book. It was from an interesting perspective and not always predictable. I was reminded quite a lot of the book The Shack.

The sentiment behind this book is what made me decide to read it. Other reviews cited inspiration. I have to say that the mysticism just felt flat to me. The story begins with a career driven ad exec and turns into him following Noah, a seemingly homeless man who he literally runs into while jogging in Central Park.

I get it. Sometimes the material aspects of life can seem all important without taking a moment to see the world around us and all the good that does exist. I know that sometimes the

At the beginning of this book, there was just too much philosophy to get me interested. I persevered through the thick of the beginning and came to the actual narrative. The story was compelling - I really love plots that revolve around the interconnectivity of strangers and how they meet. I liked the characters a lot. They seemed like real people living average lives. Overall, an okay read. Would be much better if the first few chapters were edited better to shorten the exposition.

I wanted to love this book. I did love it's message - that we are all responsible for our actions and that our actions impact others. That good leads to more good. But the story line was just too unbelievable and too hokey for my liking. I mean, I am a hard core believer in miracles and I still had a hard time believing this book!

I really wanted to like this book, but after it was all said and done it was not one of my favorites. The ideas behind the book are good and thought provoking. However, the ending really ruined it for me.

So I felt I had to give this book two stars because I enjoyed some of the philosophical theories discussed in this book. That said, the story itself feels extremely trite and the ending was so corny that I felt embarrassed to be reading it.
