Thread of Death is a novella that takes place shortly after Spider's Revenge . Now that Gin has had her revenge on Mab Monroe, and she's almost recovered physically from the fight that nearly took her life, it's time to for some emotional closure as well. Gin attends the funeral of hernemesisand finds herself among some serious heavy hitters in Ashland's criminal underworld. Some may be there to say their goodbye's to one of the most powerful elementals...more

Hardly any previous-book-regurgitation at all! I might even read on to find out what's going on with Macalister & Phillip Kincaid.

Quick & Dirty: Set at her funeral, we say goodbye to Mab Monroe, Ashland Underworld’s Top Dog and Gin Blanco’s lifelong nemesis.

Opening Sentence: I couldn’t believe the bitch was dead.

The Review:

“Thread of Death” by Jennifer Estep is a novella set in between Spider’s Revenge and By a Thread, and covers the funeral of Mab Monroe, Ashland’s former underworld kingpin and nemesis to Gin Blanco. This is a taste of what life after Mab will be like. While it does...more

Having read all the prior Elemental Assassin books by Jennifer Estep I am struck with the thought that perhaps she didn't write this one at all? It feels so different than the others ones and falls FLAT!

The author describes Jens boyfriend Owen as her lover CONSTANTLY "I told my lover.. there was my lover... my lover..." There is not a shred of what they are feeling etc.

And the chapters switch between characters. One chapter is Jen, the next one is someone else’s thoughts, followed by yet someon...more

Thread of Death” is a novella by Jennifer Estep set just after the end of “Spider’s Revenge”, detailing the events that unfold after the climactic battle between the assassin known as the ‘Spider’ and the evil Elemental Mab. There are plenty of spoilers if one has not read the previous books in the series but this gives a glimpse of the life that Gin Blanco lives. She has fought long and hard to hone her skills as an assassin but she has tried to keep a relatively low profile. Events conspire ag...more

Give me a novella from the Elemental Assassin series everyday and I will read it gladly! I love this series by Jennifer Estep and I loved “Thread of Death” also. The story takes place shortly after Mab Monroe’s death and, specifically, the day of her funeral. It’s very interesting that the author writes this story from the point of view of three different characters and in that way we learn a lot of information.

Now it’s known that Gin is the Spider and everybody wants to either to deal with her...more

This is a novella that takes place after the events of Book 5, Spider's Revenge, and before Book 6, By a Thread. It was a good novella that further ties up events from Spider's Revenge, and starts out a new story thread for book 6, By a Thread.

Gin has somewhat recovered from the debilitating battle with Mab in book 5. She has been outed as the assassin the Spider and has decided to attend Mab's funeral to make a point and judge the lay of the land now that Mab is gone. The story is told from mul...more

This was an interesting novella. It sets up the next few books nicely. You’d think Gin could catch a break and say good-bye to Mab in peace, but…nah. Where would the fun be in that. Thread of Death featured three points of view. Gin, Jonah and Philip. So cool to see the Crime Boss and the Lawyer’s thoughts.Of course, Gin reveals herself to Ashland as the spider. It’s one thing for the rumors to make the circuit. Quite another to confirm them.

Time will show how that nugget of information changes...more

As we read in the last full length novel [[ASIN:1439192642 Spider's Revenge (Elemental Assassin Books)]]the Spider (Gin Blanco) has finally taken out her nemesis, the powerful Fire Elemental Mab Monroe.
And as this novella begins we are put in the middle of Mab's funeral. Every crime boss in Ashland is there to either pay their respects or to gloat. And leave it to Mab, even while dead, to have a spectacular grande finale, with bullets flying and shovels being used as clubs.

This was an...more

Thread of Death picks up right where the previous book in the series Spider's Revenge left off. The main heroine of the story Gin Blanco has recuperated after her big showdown with Mab Monroe. She's not feeling 100% like herself but knows that she's got to get back on her feet because she pretty much has a bulls-eye on her since the word is out on who she exactly is. She attends Mab's funeral with her loved ones that support her to no end. They are there to support her and it's a good thing beca...more

Gin is still recovering from her fight with Mab with the help of her friends and family. There are rumours flying around that Gin is the Spider but that in no way stops Gin from attending Mab's funeral and getting the closure she needs. All of Ashlands underground players are in attendance not to say their goodbyes to Mab but to size each other up, to see if there is any truth in the rumours that Gin is the Spider and most importantly fight for Mab's position as Ashlands number 1 crime boss.

Evil Mab Monroe is dead. Gin Bianco (Spider/assassin) life should be easy now. That is not the case. Many criminals are going to try to make her life a living hell. They want to take her down.
Gin is still recuperating from her last injuries, but she knows she has to attend the funeral. She has to look at the new faces who may want to harm her.
One interesting detail was Phillip Kincaid's prior relationship with Owen. I wonder if they were friends or family before....

The entire story is not very long and takes place almost entirely at Mab's funeral. The funeral has apparently been delayed a few weeks until her identity could be confirmed. In the intervening weeks, Gin has been recuperating and is trying to get back to her former fit and bad-a$$ self. She attends the funeral with her still current squeeze Owen Grayson. Most of the city's underworld also attend the funeral to scope out the competition. Some of that competition stirs up trouble, trouble that Gi...more

Short and sweet Elemental Assassin story

This short story takes us through the aftermath and arc conclusion of Jennifer Estep’s 5th book, Spider’s Revenge. On the outside, Gin looks as healthy as ever, but she’s still healing internally from her huge showdown with Mab. Gin wants to drop by the old girl’s funeral to say her goodbyes (as weird as that may seem), but with her secret out she’s got an even bigger target on her back with all of Ashland’s underworld wanting a piece.

The this short was p...more

This fun little novella takes place straight after the fabulous ending of Spider's Revenge. Gin has finally succeeded in what she has been wanting to do for many years - kill the person responsible for tearing her family apart.

Today is the first day Gin has been feeling up to going out. She has healed physically from the big showdown with Mab Monroe, but is still mentally exhausted and she's still a bit wobbly on her feet, but she forces herself to go to Mab's funeral anyway. Only what should be...more

This little short takes place between Spider's Revenge and By A Thread whish comes out at the end of February. Gin decides to go to Mab's funeral and of course she's going to be a walking target since everyone is still speculating that she's The Spider who killed Mab.

It was a quick read and not only to we get Gin's point of view but we get Jonah McAlister and Phillip Kincaid's points of view as well. The story sets up a lot of plot points for upcoming books especially things dealing with Owen w...more

I rather enjoyed this novella. I liked seeing the events that occurred after Mab's death. Really loved the multiple points of view as well. I wonder if this storyline will pick up in book 7 since in book 6, Gin and crew will be out of town. I don't know if I want to believe that Jonah Mcallister was behind those two attacks, though it would make sense if the plan really was to expose her to everyone. This novella has me wanting to know more about Phillip Kincaid and Owen's past relationship with...more

Gin is recovering from her huge showdown in which she finally killed Mab Monroe. She decides that she needs to go to Mab's funeral to say her final goodbye's. As we all know nothing is ever simple in Gin's life so of course the funeral doesn't go as it should and she finds herself revealing more about herself to her enemies then she planned.

Even though this is a novella it is still full of all the action and suspense that I have always loved in Jennifer's books. There are a few different POV swi...more

Thread of Death takes place after Spider's Revenge and before By a Thread. Gin is finally healed enough to leave the house but all her friends are concerned since she's leaving to attend Mab's funeral. Her reasoning is that Mab has been such a big part of her life since she was 13 that she wants to say good-bye in her own way. Of course, the funeral is attended by all the up-and-coming scum of Ashland who are trying to figure out who's going to be the next big boss of the underworld there, many...more

Normally, I don't read the ".5" books, but in this case, I felt it was going to be necessary in order to continue the series. After Mab's fantastic and spectacular death in Spider’s Revenge I'm very anxious to start book 6. I'm so glad I took the time to read this. The story takes place in the cemetery at Mab's funeral and interestingly enough, it has a POV from 2 crime bosses who attend the funeral. Very interesting to me that the author took the time to give their insight, so I really didn't w...more

My Rating: 3.5 stars: Liked it a lot - recommend(B+)

I have been hearing great things about Ms. Estep’s Elemental Assassin series for a while now. I’ve wanted to read it, but by the time I got around to it, the series was already four books in, and I just didn’t have the time to commit to reading four to five books. (Lame excuse, I know!). Anyhow, I’d been chatting with the wonderful Ms. Estep and asked her when would be a good time to “jump in” to her series. She suggested this novella, and I’m...more

It is almost guaranteed that when I read one of the installments in the Elemental Assassin series I am in for a great read. As the arc that included Gin Blanco's war with Mab Monroe came to a close I wondered how Jennifer Estep could possibly top that ending. How could she possibly write a story that would let the fans know that Gin is still going strong and there is so much more to learn about her and the other members of her family? Interestingly enough, it is weird to see so much action and e...more

Another novella in this series but this one was different because showed different POVs during the events of Mab funeral. We can see Gin, Jonah McAllister and Phillip Kincaid thoughts.

This was a fast and full of action scene. We can see several underground bosses trying to occupy Mab’s place, but for one day the decided to play nice and visit the funeral. Including the one second hand of Mab, Jonah McAllister, now unemployed and looking for a new boss.

Everything was going fine when a sniper deci...more

(Minor spoilage in first paragraph if you haven't read Spider's Revenge #4)

This is a short novella that fits right after Spider's Revenge and right before her upcoming book, By a Thread. It deals with her feelings about Mab's death and her role in it. It also deals with her recuperation and the aftermath of several of the city's underworld rulers. There is non-stop action and an opening that you know leads you right up to the next book. Seriously, this is a great in between novella. One that get...more

Mini-Review: This novella was a great bridge between books five and six in this series. It allowed the author to elaborate on the funeral, without bogging down book six. Although I enjoyed getting other characters' points of view, it did seem to slow the pace down just a touch compared to the rest of the series. I enjoyed getting into the other characters' heads, but found I missed Gin's inner monologue at the same time. The cover is a fantastic edition to the series. It fits in perfectly, and h...more

While I found the book entertaining I just felt that Ms. Estep was reaching and trying to rekindle interest in her main character, Gin Blanco, after the exciting conculsion of the previous series. I really enjoyed the Elemental Assassin series. The character development throughout the series kept me reading and reaching for the next book in the series. This one kind of left me feeling flat. A nice story that really didn't get me emotionally involved with the characters at all. While it was a nic...more
