Although the book was full of the pain of Joan Mobey's journey, and because of this, a difficult read, I was glad to gain an insight into the world of Mobey's time, the challenges she faced, and the medical system and responses she encountered. Mobey contracted polio as a child and suffered much in her path through life, from unsympathetic family members, to doctors who had little knowledge of how to respond to a child, to poor medical practices.
